THE AESTHETIC EFFECT OF NEW VITAPAN PLUS DENTURE TEETH

As dental professionals, we know that a tremendous amount of denture teeth are being manufactured in the industry today. How should we go about choosing? If the goal to success is branding the product with quality, then as professionals providing dental health services, it is important to place value first and foremost. Because quality and value will pay off in the long run, we should not, “trip over dollars to pick-up pennies”. Quality cannot be added to a product at the end of fabrication. Quality is produced throughout the fabrication process; one must use the correct materials and apply high standards.

Not just VITAPAN, it is VITAPAN PLUS.

Alice Sager CDT

VITA Zahnfabrik is a German manufacturer of dental products that has built its reputation on exceeding the standard. VITA shade guides and devices are the leading example known around the world. In keeping with a tradition of continual innovation, VITA has now modernized the classical VITAPAN denture tooth and given it a new, future-oriented design. VITAPAN PLUS is the result of VITA’s research with approximately 300 dental professionals in over 10 countries, with the goal of process optimization while at the same time retaining familiar working procedures.

With VITAPAN PLUS, all of the same properties and manufacturing techniques one has come to expect of VITAPAN denture teeth remain: outstanding physical properties, excellent aesthetics, individual shade characterization, and natural appearance. Shade stability even after grinding, minimal moisture absorption and extremely low affinity to plaque, which are a hallmark of the original VITAPAN teeth, are also features retained in the new VITAPAN PLUS teeth.

VITAPAN PLUS anterior denture teeth demonstrate increased anatomic tooth morphology to closely mimic natural teeth for superior phonetics, esthetics and feel. VITAPAN PLUS teeth also feature distinctive curvature (horizontal and vertical) for optimum support of the lip area. Additionally, they provide superior natural shade, light and reflective properties. (Fig; 1, 1a)

(Fig; 1)

(Fig; 1a)

All VITA denture teeth have the MPR (microfiller reinforced polyacrylic) material which is used along with the high quality Repress processing technique to ensure that the three distinct layers, enamel, dentin and neck are uniformly and densely polymerized together. There is no chance for the delaminating or splintering of the layers. Furthermore, the chemical composition of the MRP material results in a high mechanical strength – in the case of both mucosal and implant-borne restorations.

CASE IN POINT

A 52-year-old female patient presented with a complete denture on the maxilla and a partially edentate mandible. Due to constant pain and ongoing problems with the natural dentition the patient was placed into an immediate maxillary denture at the age of 16. Over the course of 38 years she has had only two dentures. The denture that she was most recently wearing had been made for her some 15 years prior to the procedure of fabricating the new prostheses’. Her concerns about the prostheses she was currently wearing were the lack of anterior tooth visibility, little or no lip support, and an upper lip that tended to “roll under’, making it appear as though she did not have an upper lip. The patient also indicated she would like to see wrinkle reduction around the upper lip so lipstick would stay on her lip and not run into the folds of the skin around the lip. Presently she was not, and had not, been wearing any type of appliance on the mandible due to the discomfort and bulk of an old acrylic partial with wrought wire clasping on the natural dentition abutment teeth. Through the clinical expertise of McCade Denture Clinic (Cambridge, Ontario, Canada) and the technical expertise of Belasco Dental Studio (Waterdown, Ontario), the patient received newly fabricated prostheses, creating a naturally aesthetic smile utilizing the new VITAPAN PLUS anterior denture teeth and VITA PHYSODENS posterior teeth.

Upon initial evaluation it was determined that the patient needed a new maxillary denture and a thermal plastic partial to replace the missing dentition on the mandible. This in turn would allow for a more suitable posterior occlusal scheme, achieving an uncompromised occlusion and adding overall benefit to the patient’s ability to function correctly.

Summary:

In conclusion, it is important for dental professionals to bear in mind that the final outcome of removable prosthetics must equally satisfy the patient’s esthetic and functional requirements. Everyone in the dental profession involved in fabricating or delivering removable prosthetics will hopefully take into consideration the higher quality material is always the better choice. We should be thinking in terms of highest value, not lowest price. It is the author’s belief that VITAPAN PLUS anterior denture teeth meet the demand for function and esthetics in a very affordable manner and are perfectly suited for all midrange denture needs.

VITAPAN PLUS anterior teeth are available in a compact assortment of ten VITA 3D-Master shades and ten VITA Classical shades. The mould numbering system has been uniquely designed to be user-friendly for quick and accurate selection of the anterior maxilla and mandible teeth. There are 10 maxillary moulds and 5 mandibular moulds technically designed to be interchangeable with several of the maxillary moulds. This reduces the volume of stock necessary to accommodate the variety of maxillary inventory needed for specific aesthetic considerations based on size and facial features.

THERMOSENS IS SETTING A NEW BENCHMARK IN FLEXIBLE DENTURES

BORIS TINONE, CDT, Dental Technician

This is Vertex‘s view of their thermoplastic denture base material. Let‘s have a look at this fantastic material and see why this materi-al is so positively different to the traditional nylon materials such as Valpast, Flexite, TCS, FRS etc.

Thermoplastic (melt when heated and harden when cooled) materials are not new to dentistry, in fact they were developed as far back as 1953 only sixteen years after heat curing acrylic was developed.

The possible reasons why nylons never became as popular as acrylic did is due to the technical difficulties when working with them, their relatively high (5-7%) contraction rate and the high costs of initial set up.

ThermoSens has overcome many of these difficulties by de-veloping an easy to use system that is rather economical for the laboratory to set up. Vertex has also reduced the contraction rate to about 1% and added crystalline filling materials which makes ThermoSens very easy to polish to a high lustre and making it resistant to water absorption and unsightly staining.

It is well documented that when designing a partial denture, that the major connectors be ridged. The traditional nylon materials tend to be too flexible causing movement during mastication. This movement transmits forces onto the edentulous saddles causing trauma and increasing bone resorption, furthermore the retentive clasps or wings can also move causing the gingiva to be forced away from the tooth, hence the term „Gum Stripper“ has become synonymous.

ThermoSens is far more ridged and allows for construction of a major connector that is not flexible thus overcoming the above mentioned shortfalls. Retention is achieved by engaging mesial and distal undercuts of abutment teeth but large unsightly wings or clasps are not needed. The beauty of this material is that the technician can reduce the thickness in order to achieve more flexibility and thicken to create a ridged area. This versatile material can be used in any situation, weather it be a partial denture (Every Design), full denture, framed type partial (in place of a metal frame) or a Nesbit Denture replacing one or two teeth.

Other advantages of this material are it‘s toughness, it‘s very appealing aesthetics, it‘s retentive ability without the use of clasps, it‘s versatility and the reasonable initial set up costs. Patients have reported to me on the comfort and that they generally like the fact that due to it‘s strength the denture can be made much thinner than acrylic.

Boris Tinone was born in Italy and raised in South Africa. He attended WITS [University of Witwatersrand]. Boris qualified as dental technician in 1986 and attended compulsory military service at No1 Military Hospital Dental Lab. In 1989 Boris got married and soon after went to Europe where he opened his first dental laboratory. VENEERING CERAMIC VITA

VM9: Natural fine-structure feldspar veneering ceramic for zirconium dioxide substructures

VITA VM 9 was specially designed as a high-fusing, fine-structure feldspar ceramic for ZrO2 substructures partially stabilized with yttrium in the CTE range of approx. 10.5 (e.g. VITA In-Ceram YZ).

The CTE is precisely adjusted to zirconium dioxide materials, which guarantees optimum bonding and absolutely reliable results.

In addition to this, VITA VM 9 is ideally suited for individualizing:

Vitablocs and Vita PM9

VM11: Fine-structure ceramic for individualizing of VITA SUPRINITY

VITA VM 11 is a low-melting fine-structure feldspar ceramic that has been developed especially for individualizing crown substructures made of zirconia reinforced lithium silicate ceramic (ZLS).

Due to its individual CTE, a separate veneering material is required for this new generation glass ceramic. The perfectly matched CTE values of substructure and veneering materials help minimize stress to ensure superior bonding and veneering reliability that is free of warping.

VM13: For veneering metal substructures in the conventional CTE range

VITA VM13 was developed as a feldspar veneering ceramic for alloys in the conventional CTE range of approx. 13.8 – 15.2.

The CTE range and the firing temperature of VITA VM 13 are perfectly matched with high gold content, reduced gold content, palladium-based and non-precious metal alloys.

With the firing temperatures of VITA VM 13 distortion of the alloy can be virtually ruled out.

THE EVOLUTION CONTINUES.

November 2014 saw the conducting of a series of seminars across most of Australia and keeping in line with their theme we were blown away.

Even with an absolutely positive attitude on our part we were overwhelmed with the response. A good salesman doesn’t like turning customers away but we had no choice but to do so as the Q&A format and the venues meant we could not cater for more than 30 participants at each seminar and every event was oversubscribed. So great was the response we had people from Melbourne flying to Sydney and Perth and people from Sydney to Melbourne.

So what was it all about? Matthias Schwartze from Scheu Dental in Germany was here again and he was bringing the message;

Suck-down (the Screamer) is dead!

Pressure Moulding (the Quiet Achiever) is the way to go!

10 Seminars with over 300 registrations and long wait-lists in each state proved the demand is out there for a better way to Thermoform Dental Appliances. Not just bleaching stents and skinny mouthguards.

As a direct result of the seminars many customers converted to the Scheu Ministar S and are now producing:- Special Trays, indirect Bracket Placement, Bruxers Splints, Ortho Retainers with or without wires, Temporary Dentures, Fracture Splints, Surgical Guides, Implant Guides, Model Duplication, Temporary Crowns, truly effective Mouthguards for professional sports and Laminating that bonds permanently, the list goes on and on

Unsolicited comments of “When will you be back”, “We’ve needed this seminar for so long”, “I learned so much”, “Now I know what I was doing wrong” proving the popularity of these events.

Owing to the popularity of the Scheu Seminars and the requests of the participants 2015, Q4 will see the return of Matthias the Messiah but before then we will be looking at other Scheu initiatives such as Sleep Medicine and other Orthodontic orientated products.

DENTA PUK The innovation - naturally from Lampert

Established& proven technology

- Precise and user friendly- Flexible and versatile- Compact and space saving- Made to highest standards

The ideal tool for your dental lab.

Our precision welding equipment has undergone constant development and has been consistently tailored to meet the special welding requirements of the dental industry. The highest degree of functionality has been combined with outstanding design. The result is a pre-cision welder that is not only suitable for everyday use, but which also optically

-ments of today’s modern dental labora-tory.

Biocompatibility constitutes an impor-tant aspect in modern jointing tech-niques; here our DENTA PUK can make a major contribution.

So the exact positioning of small, stable spot-welds, or of welds in hard-to-get-to or deep lying positions, poses no problem. The area of the work piece that is affected by heat, is very small when working with the DENTA PUK. So small in fact, that problem free welds adjacent to veneers and resin saddles can be handled with ease.

The DENTA PUK allows you to adjust power and impulse time to suit the users’ individual needs. This enables an exact control of the size and depth of the weld. The DENTA PUK offers users

ibility and freedom of movement, as it needs no welding box. The hand-piece can be used “freehand”, in its stand, or in the microscope mounting arm, as it suits the user’s needs or requirements.

Our precision welding equipment puts a whole host of possible applications at

model casts, the repair of crowns and bridges, joints and constructions for the bases of model casts, as well as orthodontic applications are just a few of the examples. DENTA PUK allows the problem free adding of metal. Whether it’s fractures, pores and joints, with the aid of welding wire, material can simply be added and built up. Particularly suited to the welding process are cobalt-chrome alloys, all precious metal alloys, as well as stainless steel and titanium.

Presenter:Claus Reith, Dental Technician, Germany. Claus has worked forLampert, Germany since 2009as a techical trainer and has 16years experience in the following areas of expertise:
