Lambton-Kingsway has enjoyed a long standing tradition of community involvement and educational excellence. The current building (1993) is the fourth school to be located in this community since the village of Lambton was founded. Dating back to 1845, Lambton Mills Public School was Etobicoke's first two-room school. By 1875 a one- room, red brick school was built at the corner of Lambton Road (now Prince Edward Drive) and Government Road. Increasing enrolment resulted in the construction of a four- room school adjacent to the old school in 1916. The new Lambton-Kingsway Junior Middle School opened its doors to 551 enthusiastic learners on January 4, 1993. Lambton- Kingsway Code of Conduct Lambton-Kingsway is committed to providing a healthy learning and working environment by promoting respect, civility, safety, responsible citizenship and academic excellence. Student AssessmentThe primary purpose of student assessment is to improvelearning.Assessment has the greatest potential to improve learningwhen it is an integral part of classroom activities. Teachers assessstudent progress on an ongoing basis by using strategies such asprojects, class presentations, homework assignments, classroomobservations, portfolios and tests. 

Physical Education & Healthy LivingAt Lambton-Kingsway JMS we are committed to supporting physicaleducation and a healthy lifestyle for our students through ourphysical and health education program and our extra-curricularactivities. At LKS, students can participate in a wide variety ofsports teams that compete across the TDSB. Students can alsocompete in our inter-school House League Program.

TechnologyAt LKS technology is a strong focus and widely used to prepare ourstudents for the future and whatever opportunities arise for them inthe 21st century.  Interactive white boards, codingactivities, multimedia projectors, mobile laptop and iPad labs andtwo permanent PC labs are integrated across the curriculum andeffectively used to enhance student learning. 

Character EducationCharacter Counts at LKS!  Teachers discuss theTDSB CharacterTraits on a regular basis.  Many school committees also exist at LKSthat foster leadership and character development such as PeerMediators, Student Government and  Huddle Up LeadershipCommittee, to name a few.  In addition, students are recognized atsharing assemblies with student of the month certificates.

Student Life - Where You Belong

Lambton-Kingsway JMS is a school community that providesextensive opportunities for all students.  Our staff, parentcommunity and volunteers provide a wide variety ofprograms and activities that help to enrich the learningopportunities for all students. Students are encouraged tobuild on their strengths and interests in areas such as:athletics, music, drama, the arts, literacy and numeracy, theenvironment, social justice awareness, communityinvolvement, peer support, an intermediate house systemand an abundance of leadership opportunities. 

What Sets Us Apart

Lambton-Kingsway students in Grades 3 and 6 haveachieved excellent results in all three areas of the EQAOassessment (provincial performance-based tests developedby the Education Quality and Accountability Office). Our testscores are above provincial standards. We also implementthe Candadian Test of Basic Skills at LKS from grades 3-8.Our CTBS (a standardized test) scores indicate above gradelevel averages in language and math. The factors for thissuccess stem from effective teaching practices, ongoingprofessional development, the contribution of parentvolunteers and strong support from families in thecommunity. We continue to expand and extend the higherlevel and critical thinking abilities of our learners.

Parent and Community Engagement

Lambton-Kingsway School and Parent Council acts on behalf of theparent body in a consultative and advisory capacity to the principal.The Council, in association with many parent volunteers, has beeninstrumental in bringing many resources to the school whichenhance the current curriculum and the overall educationalenvironment. These have included; enhancements to the library,computer lab, music program and schoolyard; programs that bringspecialists into the school such as scientists, authors, artists andguest performers; annual Springfest and other fund raising events.Parent volunteers can also be found assisting in classroom readingprograms, story writing, remedial work, computer labs, library andexcursions. They also assist in extra-curricular activities such asdrama and concert productions, choirs and school sports.

Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety ofopportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices. Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice,access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financialstability.
