PIPISTRELLO

Gae Aulenti she was born in 1927 at Palazzolo dello Stella, in the province of Udine.In 1953, she graduated at the Politecnico, the technical university, in Milan. Gae Aulenti was educated as an architect in Milan in the 50s, practicing her profession, dealing with architectonic design, city planning, industrial design and stage design.After the creation of the Orsay Museum in Paris, she was responsible for the restoration of Grassi Palace in Venice, among the more important project: the requalification of Cadorna square in Milan and the stations "Museo" and "Dante" of the underground in Naples, the ex Quirinale stables in Rome, the square outside the ex station Leopolda in Florence.

In 2003 the new Asia Museum of San Francisco was inaugurated and in 2004 the Catalan Art Museum in Barcelona.

In 2005 she established the Gae Aulenti Architetti Associati , the Italian culture institute was inaugurated in Tokio, the Palavela in Turin for the Olympic Games and San Giovanni square at Gubbio; in 2008 the Library and culture centre at Paderno Dugnano, Milan, the waste to energy plant at Forlì and the whole university campus at Biella and in 2012 the Branciforte palace at Palermo, the airport S. Francesco at Perugia and the airport of Aosta.

Among her key acknowledgements, the qualification of Chevalier del la legion d'Honneur ( Paris), honorary member of the American Institute of Architects-Hon.FAIA, the qualification of Knight of Grand Cross of the Italian Republic, the Praemium Imperiale by the Japan Art Association (Tokio), honorary degree of the Rhode Island school of Design, Providence (Usa) and in 2012, before her death on the 16th of October, she was honoured with the award to her carrier given to her by the Triennale of Milano.

On the 7th of December 2012 the new circular square, located in the heart of the complex Unicredit Tower in Milan, was inaugurated and dedicated to her.
