LAW ENFORCEMENT AERIAL PLATFORM SYSTEM (LEAPS) PROVIDES SURVEILLANCE FOR LANCASTER WITH AERIAL OBSERVATION
During September 2016, LASD formally logged 11 LEAPS service calls where tactical field operations were supported. LEAPS was deployed 156 times for a total of 36.4 hours and was airborne and available 310.2 hours during September. LEAPS provided airborne observation and locations in the recovery of 3 vehicles and additional surveillance and observations of an altercation over a lost wallet. Provided observation of burglary suspect and a threatening bus passenger. Provided observation over the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix event on the BLVD. When personnel are trained and proficient on LEAPS operation, the number of surveillance events and arrests LEAPS supports are maximized.
