Freshman Year
• I’ve always had a leadership personality, but I didn’t start developing the skill till freshman year.
• My first leadership position was when I was elected the Freshmen Class Secretary
Freshman Summer• I was nominated to study in Washington
D.C. through the National Young Leaders Conference the summer after my freshman year.• I learned how to be respectful of others’
opinions and beliefs through debates• I began to develop my idea of
leadership through hearing speakers on the death penalty, homelessness, and many other topics
• I developed the skill of working together with others for a common goal through simulations such as mock congress.
• I also had the opportunity to discuss healthcare reform with my state congressmen on the day that the supreme court ruled Obama Care constitutional• This conference ignited my passion for
politics and law
Sophomore Year
• Re-elected Class Secretary
• Elected onto the Louisiana State Mathematics Honor Society Board as Corresponding Secretary• Was able to work with a
diverse group of students from around the state to plan a state convention and competitions through out the year
• Elected onto Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC)• Fueled my passion for politics
and making a difference
Sophomore Summer
• Attended Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp• Learned that everyone has something
to offer and everyone is valuable
Junior Year• Elected Student Body
Secretary • Attended several
student council conferences
• Learned importance of networking
• Continued Tenure on LYAC• Appeared on several TV
shows representing Louisiana• Helped develop social
skills and views
Junior Summer
• Attended the Republican National Convention• Further inspired my
love for politics and Ted Cruz
• Attended the Global Young Leaders Conference in Europe• Learned to work
with people from other countries and overcome language and cultural barriers
Senior Year
• Re-elected as secretary on math honor society board
• Continued LYAC• Passed urge and request through the
Louisiana State Congress for student representation on school boards• Learned how to organize a group of
people to work toward a common goal that impacts others.
• Elected Student body President • Lead school to winning highest award
at the state student council conference for the first time in over 20 years• Learned how to tackle new adventures
and get others excited about the future
Development
• Chapter 6: Made me think about how complex leadership is. Administrative, interpersonal, and conceptual aspects are all equally important. • “Unlike traits that are innate, leadership skills are
learned competencies.” pg. 138• While some skills come easier to me than others,
each of them are learned. My weakest area is interpersonal, but I know it is possible for me to gain that skill since it is learned.
• My leadership journey in high school taught many lessons and shaped me into the person I am today. • How will my leadership journey be further impacted in
college?
