QuEST has been working with Airbus on Wing concessions program over the last 6 years. Wing Concessions is one of the key programs which require 24x7 support for Engineering Plants. This includes building design and analysis solutions for non-conformities occurrence on development and production aircraft, spare parts, equipment, and airframes. QuEST’s extensive experience in Wings triggered the initial discussions with Airbus Bremen on Highlift Flap track beams.

It was an exciting time for the engineers with QuEST’s initiation on Wing movables concessions. Airbus Bremen team first visited QuEST-Airbus ODC in October 2016 to understand the capability. This was followed by several meetings between Airbus and QuEST teams that finalized the scope, approach, tool sets and action plan for the way forward.

2017 started with deployment of engineer onsite at Bremen facility to understand the product. The team engaged in a familiarizing program to gain hands-on knowledge on the manufacturing process.

The program included relevant trainings and discussions with Design Authority to understand the requirements. The Signatory Delegation Authority for High Lift Concession was awarded to one of QuEST’s engineers post an interview session.

The Airbus Design & Stress Leads visited ODC to review QuEST’s readiness and officially begin the concessions work. Today, 100% seamless workload transition has been achieved, with the team delivering concessions with great quality and speed. Thanks to the support received from Airbus Bremen team and the remarkable strategy and execution of ODC.

The ESG UK support team demonstrated the progress made by QuEST and SA CPD in 2016.

To give some background, in 2015 the UK team delivered a total of 61 MSNs and the customer service requests for 2016 was 250 MSNs. While this seemed impossible in the beginning, the team shared learning from Long Range Program to improve the Single Aisle process, and reduce the amount of analysis required based on past experience.

Challenges Faced

At the start of 2016, there were a number of challenges due to the rollout of a new process, such as:

● The risks of failing to hit the monthly delivery commitment, in advance of trialling the new process

● The changed need of resource skill

● The locality of the QuEST team to the concessions

● The access to concessions

TRAVEL DIARY

The winners of ‘QuEST Ingenium 2016’ were all set to make their dream trip – visiting the Airbus Facility in Wichita. Accompanied by the QuEST team, the Ingenium winners started their journey on January 15, 2017. During the first day of their visit, Mark Nys, Vice President, QuEST Global, took the team to Cosmo Sphere – a space museum located in Hutchinson. The students were amazed to see the varied collection of space artifacts, right from the Soviet Vostok capsule which was actually flown in space, to the SR-7IA Blackbird which holds the record for the fastest plane in the world.

The second day was the most awaited day for the Ingenium winners. And what better way to start the day than meeting John O’Leary, Vice President, Airbus Americas Engineering. This was followed by a tour to the Airbus Engineering Complex in Wichita.

The team then headed to explore the University where they visited Go-Create, a new venture that brings in the best of technology in hobbyist manufacturing from 3D printers to lathes and milling machines. The team also visited NAIR Robotics, who have been working on the fields of VR,3D Printing and Reverse Engineering, the Biomedical department, and Crash Bionics. They also gave a brief presentation on their achievements.

On day three, the team flew to Mobile and was greeted by Kristi, Director Communications at Airbus. The team then headed for a city tour.

On the final day of the visit, the team was taken to the final assembly line of Airbus 320s. This was followed by the innovation lunch, where the team had to work on a project presentation. A session led by the Airbus Engineers took the team through various innovations that have been happening in the field of Aerospace, and the team shared their ideas on improvization of air travel experiences. The day ended with a dinner hosted by John O’Leary.

From November 28, 2016 to December 2, 2016, Airbus and QuEST volunteers traveled to Government Model Primary School, Bengaluru (India) to work on various activities taken up as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities for the year. This included cementing of the roof, installing kho-kho pole for sports activities, tank movement, painting and art work in classrooms and various sessions by Airbus customers on health and safety for the kids. The activity was organized under the CSR project at QuEST Global in partnership with Airbus.

The team of volunteers arrived at the school on November 28th and for a week, they engaged in hands-on work, building the infrastructure of the school, sessions on health and safety and preparation for a cultural event for the closing ceremony and many more activities to connect with the school kids. Before the CSR activities were concluded, a special lunch was organized for GMPS students by QuEST which was served by Airbus and QuEST volunteers. Airbus volunteers enjoyed serving food to the kids and appreciated QuEST for giving them this opportunity.

On the concluding day, the team enjoyed the local dances and various cultural programs by the students. As a token of appreciation, mementos were given to the volunteers.

The CSR activity at GMPS got excellent support from all the twenty volunteers from QuEST-Airbus ODC and eight volunteers from Airbus who flew all the way from different parts of the world for this activity.

Commenting on the experience, one of the volunteers said this was the first experience working on a CSR initiative.

ENGINEERING A POSITIVE CHANGE: QuEST AND AIRBUS VOLUNTEERSEXTEND SUPPORT TO GOVERNMENT MODEL PRIMARY SCHOOL

We started planning this activity two months in advance and created three teams to work on infrastructure, sports and culture, and painting work. Teams worked independently and came up with a list of activities which the school management wanted us to take up. After finalizing the activities based on priority and impact, the work was spread across the week. It was a really great experience for all of us.

QuEST GLOBAL HOSTS DR. SRINIVASAN DWARKANATH,AIRBUS INDIA'S CEO AT THE AERO INDIA 2017 EVENTQuEST Global hosted a networking dinner at JW Marriott, Bangalore on February 13 2017, prior to Aero India 2017 event. QuEST’s aero customers and select associates were invited for an evening of networking over cocktail and dinner.

Making this high profile gathering even more special, Chief Guest Dr. S. Dwarkanath, Airbus India’s CEO shared an insightful perspective of India’s Aerospace and Defence industry. With the national initiative of ‘Make in India’ and exponentially growing demand for aircrafts globally – both civil and military, he is very positive on the inevitable development of India’s A&D industry to meet a large pie of that demand.

He was then felicitated by Dr. Ajay Prabhu, QuEST Global’s COO for his long standing contribution to the Aerospace industry. After the plenary session, the award winning painter, Vilas Nayak was invited on stage to do a live portrait painting of the Chief Guest. His impressive artistic skill rendered a larger than life portrait within minutes.

About the event:

Every alternate year, around the duration of Aero India, QuEST hosts a gala dinner for select customers. Along with these industry leaders, the guest list also included industry

bodies, analysts, diplomats and financiers.

The networking event which was themed ‘Engineering Transformation’ covered all aspects of QuEST’s growth story in Aero domain. New age technology such as Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality were used to showcase QuEST’s capability and potential in Aero domain. The up-close 3D experience of QuEST’s Hangar was virtually enjoyed by all. The drone flying zone had a QuEST employee, who also happens to be India’s first Drone Flying Champ, help curious guests to fly drones for the first time.

A special start-up zone that hosted some of the promising start-up companies whose innovation, services and solutions, was one of the highlights of the evening. They were invited to participate as a part of the engineering eco-system by QuEST, presenting them the opportunity to interact directly with QuEST’s customers.

It was a great evening for QuEST’s aero community that offered many networking opportunities amongst guests and our leaders. Dr. Dwarkanath’s presence at the event was highly appreciated by many.
