Kiwa Certification & Inspection

Rubber Products For rubber products we have three different quality marks. We have the Kiwa mark for rubber products that are in contact with drinking water, the KOMO mark for building products that are in contact with waste water and the GASTEC QA mark for rubber products that are in contact with gaseous fuels. The requirements to obtain and maintain the Kiwa or KOMO mark are established in the evaluation guidelines (BRL) respectively BRL-K17504 and BRL-2013. The requirements to obtain and maintain the GASTEC QA mark are established in the Approval Requirements AR-81 and AR-192 . AR-81 refers to the EN 682 and the AR-192 refers to the EN 549. Both BRL’s and AR’s contain mechanical testing, additional for the Kiwa mark is the Toxicological aspect. Application

For the application we need the following information about your product: - Type of rubber; (EPDM/SBR/NBR/...) - Hardness class of the rubber; - Field of application; (Hot and/or Cold Water, Gaseous Fuels) - The production method used; (Extrusion/Injection mould/…) - Drawings of the profile/O-rings/gasket/….; - Dimensions of the product; - Production location of the product; - Production location of the compound.

Initial inspection visit An auditor will visit your company and take the test samples. He will audit the quality system to secure that the products can be produced with a constant quality. The production control data will be registered in an Internal Quality Schedule (IQS).

Type testing The test program is described in the BRL or in the AR.. For a range of products we can make a combination between the tests. For example we use the thickest product for the high temperature compression set and the thinnest for the stress relaxation. Combinations between products when the same compound is used are possible.

When the application concerns a Kiwa mark we advice to start up the toxicological part at first, because this is a difficult part. Here for we need the recipe from the rubber. We understand that this is confidential information to your company and therefore it will be handled with special care.

For the application we can accept test reports of identical tests, carried out by laboratories that are accredited according to EN-ISO/IEC 17025 and recognized by Kiwa. Please send the test reports along with the application.

Certification

When the initial inspection visit and the type testing are finished with a good result the certificate will be issued. From a half year later the inspection visits will start.

Inspection visits

The inspector will visit the company four times a year regarding the Kiwa and KOMO mark and 2 times a year regarding the GASTEC QA mark. When the company has an ISO 9001:2000 certificate the frequency will be lowered to two times a year regarding the Kiwa and KOMO mark and 1 time a year regarding the GASTEC QA mark. Regularly samples will be taken for examination at the KIWA laboratory. Certificate

The certificate consists of a public part (usually two pages) which contains information of the product on which your customers can see which of your products are covered by the certificate. Also regarding drinking water a confidential part which contains the ATA information (if applicable), the logistic information and the contract for maintaining the certificate. Private label

As in importer of rubber products it is possible to have a copy of the certificate from the original producer on your own name. For this the original producer needs to grand permission. Also the brand name of the product can be changed in the new private label certificate. One Stop Shopping
