Safe Places is an enrichment, exploratory and Recreation program that supports students’ academic, physical, and social-emotional, development with holistic programs and activities that help students realize who they are and all they can achieve.

ACAdeMiCSResearch provides evidence that youth who spend more time in afterschool programs – like Safe Places derive greater academic benefits than youth who spend less time. Safe Places provides a supportive atmosphere for: • Tutoring • Homework Help • Enrichment Opportunities exPLoRATionSafe Places provides a variety of opportunities to incite students’ ambitions and unlock their potential. Through exposure to a wide range of activities, students develop confidence, teamwork, conflict resolution, and goal setting through:• Hands on projects • Leadership development, and • Engaging workshops and programs

HeALTHY eATinG And PHYSiCAL ACTiviTY (HePA) STAndARdSFirst lady Michelle Obama and the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) raised the call; the Y answered it. As part of our focus on developing healthy habits in kids, families and our communities, we have committed to adopting standards for healthy eating and physical activity (HEPA) in our early learning and afterschool programs. HEPA teaches children how to:• Make healthy food choices • Enjoy physical activity• Consciously contribute to their social and physical development

TeAM SPoRTSParticipants in team sports build skills, learn about teamwork, and focus on sportsmanship preparing them for key milestones on their developmental journey. Safe Places students will have the opportunity to engage in organized sports with several sports to choose from. Sport plays a primarily positive role in youth development, including improved:• Academic achievement• Higher self-esteem• Fewer behavioral problems• Better psychosocial skills

PARenT And FAMiLY invoLveMenTParents and Guardians play an important part in our after school program. Safe Places provides opportunities for family to be engaged and provide feedback to the program. In addition to family night, and special events; our parent and volunteer group, Parents Raising Aware and Intelligent Students Everyday (P.R.A.I.S.E) meets regularly to ensure connectivity among: Safe Places, School, and Home.

SAFe PLACeS MiSSionTo make certain that out of school time is filled creatively and constructively, granting youth the access to express their skills, talents, and interest in sports, healthy activity and play – taking advantage of all The Y has to offer.
