Everyone seems to have settled back into school life and
routine very well. Thank you to all parents/carers for your
co-operation at morning drop off and pick up. Please can
we remind you to all wear masks whilst in the school
grounds and also walking along the pavement outside
school at busy times. If a grandparent/child-minder etc are
bringing your children to school or collecting them, we
would be very grateful if you could advise them too that a
face covering is required unless medically exempt.
What a ‘super’ day we are having at school today with all
our children (and teachers) dressed up as superhero’s or a
super power for Red Nose Day. Thank you to everyone for
the wonderful effort, everyone looks amazing, and thank
you for your donations made via ParentMail. We know it is
sometimes difficult navigating a new system - if you have
not already done so, to make your donation please go to
the ‘payments’ section on your app and into ‘shop’ and Red
Nose day will be there.
Below is a little update from each class teacher on what
they have been learning in school this week:

NIDD from Miss Newsholme We have been doing some lovely artwork, block printing using polystyrene tiles.
WHARFE from Miss Bushell This week class Wharfe have worked extremely hard and been incredibly focused on sitting their termly tests. In topic we

and in French we have been learning how to say what we do in our spare time.
SWALE from Mrs Sharpley In Swale Class, we have quite enjoyed completing our assessments in English and Maths which are helping us understand
what we know and any areas we still need to work on. We have also got stuck into 'hands on' Science this week, looking at
animal hearts to explore their two sides pumping blood to different parts of the body, (many thanks to Mrs Bennett and
Mrs Foy of Kettlesing school who were able to give us some spares they had). In French we have been learning animal
names and in Geography we have started to learn about how different the climate is in Mexico compared to where we
live.

Recommended Reads
We will be having Easter lunch on Wednesday 24th March. If you child usually has packed lunch on this day and would like Easter lunch please let Mrs Drury know by Monday. An email was sent on Wednesday with all the information. Please contact the office if you need a further copy.
Easter Lunch
A huge thank you to Betty's for their incredibly generous gift of £500 which we have put towards buying 'Recommended Read' books for each year group. We love reading at our school! These books are a selection of children’s favourites and classics. We will challenge the children to read at least 5 to 7 Recommended Reads books throughout the year at home. The older ones (y3- 6) will write reports, whilst the younger ones will share their thoughts on the books they have read. We would also love the children to post videos of them reading and sharing their reviews on Seesaw. For each book read, the children will be given Magic Moments/ Stickers and their names put into a class 'prize draw'. Obviously, the more books children read or have read to them, the more chance of winning a 'quality prize' in a special Recommended Reads assembly, at the end of the year. The children are very excited about reading this diverse selection! Happy reading!
Church Row Road Closure
We sent an email out yesterday afternoon to advise all parents/carers that Church Row (main road outside school) will be closed for re-surfacing works from Monday 22nd - Wednesday 24th March, 8:30am - 5:00pm daily. During these hours local access will be allowed at drop off and pick up times for you to park in the Village Hall and Smiths Arms car parks to bring your children to school and collect them. Please do not try to park outside school or on Moor Close.
Please can you share this information with anyone else who may be dropping off or collecting your child/children over these dates.
Apologies for the short notice of this information, but we were only informed ourselves yesterday afternoon.
Contacting Staff
Now that we have all returned to school may we please ask that if you would like to send a message/contact a member of
teaching staff to email [email protected]. Please do not email their individual email addresses if you
have them or send messages through Seesaw (unless it is relevant to the piece of work set you wish to discuss).
Your message will be passed on to the relevant member of staff as soon as it is received or please call the office and if a
teacher is not available to speak with then, a message will be passed on for you to be called back as soon as possible.

Safeguarding at Beckwithshaw Community Primary School
Each week we will focus on an different area of Safeguarding. Please see below for further information.
County Lines
County lines is a term used for organised illegal drug-dealing networks, usually controlled by a person using a single tele-phone number or ‘deal line’ that local drug users can call to arrange a delivery. Children and young people are recruited as ‘runners’ to transport drugs and money out of their home towns and cities into other places in the UK, so that the criminals behind the drug trafficking are less visible and less likely to be detected. This is criminal exploitation. Children as young as 11 years old may be recruited, sometimes through the use of social media. The tactic to entrap children may be as simple as waiting outside a school and using location services on an app to send messages to anyone nearby offering them money. Or children may be recruited in shopping centres with promises to buy them clothes, trainers and other things they want.
Unfortunately, Harrogate is not immune from such dangers, and we all need to be aware of the risks from, and signs of, county lines in our area: even for primary-aged children like ours. There is an excellent leaflet available here https://www.smarttc.co.uk/uploads/6/9/1/3/69134389/county_line_leaflet_parents.pdf that explains things in detail. A copy of this leaflet is also attached to the newsletter. If you have any questions, or want to talk further about any issues to do with child protection or safeguarding, please contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Natasha Scott on 01423 504642
