LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are semiconductor devices operating like a common diode, while emitting light in a reduced spectrum, which when the direct JC junction is polarized, the junction point of the 2 semiconductors, and with the action of heat it becomes visible, as a result of the DC current circulating through it.

Nick Holonyak invented LEDs in 1962 while working as a scientist in a General Electric laboratory in Syracuse (New York). It has been possible for many years to see LEDs in many common electrical devices such as radios, televisions, Mobile phones, digital watch displays and in other signalling uses. However, the lack of a wide range of colours and the low light power they offered considerably limited their applications.

Currently, the introduction of new materials has enabled the creation of LEDs that emit light in the entire visible spectrum, offering at the same time an efficiency that exceeds other conventional lighting systems. LEDs continue broadening their range of lighting applications.

What are the advantages of LED LIGHTS?

Lower heat emissions (60-90% less heat).

Reduced maintenance and replacement costs due to their long service life.

Instant light, not affected by many on-off cycles. LEDs have the advantage of offering a very short light up time (Less than 1 millisecond) in comparison to incandescent high power light fittings. And reach 100% performance as soon as you turn them on.

Smaller and with higher resistance to impact and vibration.

Much more ecological, reduced CO2 footprint.

They do not contain mercury or other toxic materials that are highly harmful for health and the environment. In comparison to fluorescent technology, they do not create strong magnetic fields nor do they emit infrared or ultraviolet radiation, thus reducing radiation people are exposed to.

Progressive end of life, slow degradation.

Continuous light without flickering. No stroboscopic effect.

Able to emit light in different colours with high production of light, In contrast to many of the Bulbs used up to now, which have filters to achieve a similar effect (which means reducing their energy efficiency).

How to choose the most appropriate LED?

8 main features that must be checked:

1. POWER IN LUMENSWatts indicate the consumption of electrical energy and lumens the amount of light generated.LEDs use little energy and produce a lot of lumens (Up to 115 lm/W in the case of ILUMAX), which can mean up to 90% in energy savings, as you pay for energy consumed and no reactive energy is consumed when using LEDSMAX.

2. COLOUR TEMPERATURE OF THE LIGHTThis colour temperature is measured in degrees Kelvin.

According to temperature, Bulbs can be divided into 3 types:

Cool white: 6500K. White light with greater intensity and lighting performance (tends to be bluish in tone). Adequate for garages, industry and some commercial establishments.

Pure white: 4000K. Intermediate intensity of light, similar to daylight. Used in offices and most commercial establishments.

Warm white: 2700K. The light is dimmer and more cosy (tends to be yellowish), perfect for domestic lighting, restaurants, etc.

3. ANGLE OF LIGHT EMITTED Determines the concentration of the light in a point or in space. A smaller angle, e.g. 40º, will produce a “spotlight” effect to light a smaller area, an object you wish to highlight (the degrees of a halogen Bulb or spotlight). Used to decorate objects in the home, shop or restaurant.

A more open angle (more than 120º) illuminates more space with less intensity. Used for lighting spaces uniformly (offices, car parks, industry, trade, etc.).

So, according to what you want to illuminate, you must bear in mind the angle of light emitted by the LED.

6. TYPE OF POWER SUPPLY OR DRIVER: THE REAL MOTOR OF AN LEDThe power supply is an electronic circuit that transforms AC to DC and the driver adapts the output voltage and current to the needs of the LED. The price will depend on how complex it is and the complexity will depend on the performance offered and the technology used by the manufacturer.

Advantages of a built in driver:: Quicker and more effective installation. Does not need the removal of auxiliary equipment (reactance). All-in-one solution, no external space used.

Advantages of an external driver: Products with grater power and luminosity. When the driver reaches the end of its service life or if it breaks down, it is very easy and quick to replace. Smaller light fittings. Longer service life of all components. Greater reliability.

Disadvantages of an internal driver: Requires more space inside the optical unit of the light fitting. In case of excessive heat, it will turn off to protect the equipment. Less power and luminosity. For the same power, a unit with an internal driver is larger than one with an external driver. When the driver reaches the end of its service life, it is necessary to replace the whole unit.

Disadvantages of an external driver: Requires space in order to install the external driver.

7. LED HEAT SINK

The heat sink lowers the temperature of the LED by evacuating heat, normally by dissipating it into the air, to avoid High temperatures damaging the unit.

Heat dissipation in an LED is carried out in four successive stages: Heat generated by the flow of current is accumulated in the junction of the chip. From the junction point it is moved to the circuit board, and from here to the heat sink. It’s transmitted from the motherboard to the heat disipator. The heat sink dissipates it into the air.

8. AVERAGE LIFE AND SERVICE LIFEOne of the principal advantages of LEDs is their service life (about 45,000 hours), Significantly greater than other light sources, such as halogen, sodium or fluorescent. However, there is some confusion regarding service life. It is often thought that this refers to the time it will work without failing or before it stops working, when it really refers to the average life. The service life of a light source is the time during which the unit will work without losing lighting performance.

Whiter light is, the more lumens are obtained but this also can affect the environment created.• The input voltage considered is 230 V but if voltage is higher , consumption will be increased in the comparative percentages indicated regarding our products, so savings would be bigger.

General sales conditions

Orders Orders must always be made in writing, via e-mail ([email protected]) or via fax (+34.93.473.03.18).

Delivery timesFrom China, the manufacturing time frame will be approximately 30 days.From Barcelona, the period of preparation of the order will be 24-48 hours from the time the order is madesubject to availability of stock.

While ILUMAX attempts to ensure that all its products are in stock with the purpose of providing the best service possible to its customers, in the event that the requested material is not in stock, the customer will be informed of the approximate delivery date on a personalised basis.

Prices• This price comes into effect on 16 November 2015, replacing all previous prices

• Our Prices in Euros are valid up to a minimum change of €1 = $1.05.

Payment methodBank transfer: 50% upon confirmation of the order + 50% before shipment.

GuaranteeILUMAX guarantees the quality of its products for a period ranging of 2 to 5 years, depending on the product, according to the terms and conditions that have been legally established in the product price-catalogue to the time of purchase and subject to compliance from the date stated on the delivery document. The following are NOT included in the guarantee:

• Any material received that has any damage caused by negligence, knocks, improper handling or use, higher voltage to the one recommended or problems arising from improper installation.

• All material exposed to accidents, natural disasters or any other cause beyond ILUMAX’s control.

• Installation of the replaced product.

• Generally anything not reflected in this paragraph.

Claims and Incidents• Any claim relating to the quantity of the goods received must be made within a maximum period of 7 days from receipt of the

same, except for any transport-related problem that is noticed, which must be reported within 24 hours from receipt of the same.

• Any quality-related claim or incident must be reported by e-mail to [email protected]. This application will be managed by the Incidents Department who will open a report, accepting or rejecting the return of the same.

• Any entry of defective material will be analysed by our technical department, determining the justification of the use of the guarantee. After a detailed analysis and verification of such material, ILUMAX may opt for the repair, replacement or refund of the product

• The goods delivered shall be considered the property of ILUMAX AHORRO ENERGÉTICO S.L. until full payment of the goods is received.
