WHAT DOES LEED COST?
FEES: Paid to the GBCI to register and then to certify your project. These
are roughly 3¢±5¢ per square foot for New Construction, depending on thesize of the project and whether or not you get the USGBC member discount.
DOCUMENTATION: This cost could be for an outside consultant hired just for that task, someone on the staff of the design firm, the contractor, or the owner. This is a big project for someone doing it for the first time, and
not such a big deal for someone who has done it enough to have figured outthe process and created or purchased effective tracking systems.

WHAT DOES LEED COST?
EXTRA RESEARCH & DESIGN: This can be a big cost, involving
investigating alternative products and materials and exploring the feasibilityof new technologies.
COMMISSIONING & MODELING FOR COMPLIANCE: .50 - $1.00/sf.This involves having professionals test your systems to see that they matchcompliance standards. These include energy modeling, water usagereduction tables, and commissioning. Another tool is a measurement andverification plan which is installed to track the performance of thesesystems.

WHAT DOES LEED COST?
CONSTRUCTION COSTS: 2-15% If the design team is experienced and
the goals aren¶t too aggressive, there may be no overall added costbecause every cost premium has been offset with savings somewhere else.(For example, a smaller HVAC system resulting from a more efficientenvelope.)
