3-week programs to Germany in the summer: Berlin, Markkleeberg, Passau, Bad Iburg, Bad Reichenhall

Host family accommodation, experience in a real German school, travel to nearby sites, practice your German, and establish friendships that will last a lifetime!

Students must have had 2 years of German, be recommended by their teacher, be 15-18 years of age (graduating seniors are eligible)

Szombathy-Toth Scholarship: one full need-based scholarship to an African American, Native American, Hispanic, or other minority student of German; covers all program costs, domestic airfare, and some spending money

Need-based Scholarships of up to 25% of the program cost for students whose financial need merits it (based on application).

Goethe Institut Summer Study Abroad The Goethe-Institut is a leader in German education worldwide!

Sites from New York City to Osaka, Lagos to Sydney! 160 locations in 94 countries!

Course locations in Germany (Berlin, Leipzig, Munich, Cologne, Freiburg, Weimar, Bamberg, and more) AND Austria (Vienna and more)!

Varied courses by age group: German for children: 9-12, 2 weeks or 3 weeks; German for teens: 12-15 (2 or 3 weeks) or 14-17 (2 weeks, 3 weeks (also intensive) or 4 weeks); German for young adults: 18-21 (3 weeks)

Even teen courses that include soccer!

Program includes German instruction, sports, culture and leisure-time, accommodation in boarding schools, full board, round-the-clock supervision and care, a participation certificate, opportunity to take an exam at the end of the course, and day excursions

Millersville University Summer Language Camps

German language camp in Millersville, Pennsylvania for high school students

Week-long program with an immersive language experience on a college campus: August 2-8, 2015

Students aged 13-17 with basic knowledge of German are invited to apply

Instruction by certified teachers, multimedia classes that include fun skits and other activities that challenge your language and encourage you to learn!

Accommodation in air-conditioned dorms with access to the Student Center (game rooms, TVs, snack bar, internet)

Still time to apply for this year: applications are due May 31st!

Concordia Language Villages

Visit Concordia Language Villages’ Waldsee for an immersive language and culture experience! Registration is still open!

Day Camps for students ages 6-11: concentrations in adventure, arts and theatre, soccer (6-15), or science! Also a Swiss day camp! (5 days)

Youth Exploration one week programs for students ages 7-18

Youth Exploration two week programs for students 8-18

Middle School Enrichment (grades 6-8) for four weeks

Middlebury Monterey Language Academy German language camp for 8-12th graders with beginner to advanced

German skills, located at Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont for summer 2015

An immersive language experience: students take The Pledge to only communicate in the language of study for the 4-week duration of the program

91% of beginning students increased by one level of language proficiency (based on the American Council of Teaching of Foreign Language’s proficiency scale); 88% of all students gain at least one full level, while 45% gain two or more levels

An incredibly rewarding and FUN experience– many cultural activities are part of the program, from learning traditional dances to cooking and eating traditional foods!

Financial aid is available for those who qualify; up to 75% of the program cost may be covered.

Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange CBYX: initiated in 1983 to strengthen ties between Germany and

the United States through citizen diplomacy

For highly motivated high school students who want total immersion in German language and culture

10-month stay in Germany, including placement in a German school and living arrangements with a host family

As a CBYX participant, you will obtain “a greater sense of independence, empowerment, and global citizenry,” experience German life and culture firsthand, become a cultural ambassador, enhance your appeal as a college or job applicant,

Previous experience with German is NOT required; diverse applicants are encouraged to apply

SCHOLARSHIPS available for students who are US citizens, between 15 and 18 years and 6 months of age, and who have a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)

Scholarships cover round-trip travel between Washington, D.C. and your placement city in Germany, tuition and academic materials, in-country support, cultural excursions, pre-departure and re-entry orientation, room and board

AFS & CIEE: Semester and Year Study Abroad Programs CIEE: study abroad in the Fall, Spring, or full academic year! Includes

a German high school experience and homestay accommodation

Open to high school students between 15 and 18 years of age (may turn 19 while on the program) with a 3.0 GPA and preferably two years of German study (though an intensive preparation course may be attended at an additional cost if this requirement is not met)

Partial scholarships available!

AFS: study abroad for a semester or full academic year during or right after high school! Includes high school experience in a German-speaking country and homestay accommodation

Switzerland: full year

Austria: full year or fall semester

Germany: full year or fall semester

Applicants should have a 2.8 GPA and meet the age requirements for the program; scholarships may be available for select programs

Applicant must be: a Federal Pell Grant recipient, be applying for a program or internship for which they will receive credit, must be abroad for 4 weeks minimum (2 weeks for community college students)

Dedicated to diversity and opportunity, the Gilman Program encourages students attending community colleges, from ethnically diverse backgrounds, participating in internships for credit, students with disabilities, first generation college students, and students from areas of study less commonly associated with study abroad to apply!
