Mt. Vernon, VA Thursday, September, 15, 2016 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.Mount Vernon is an American landmark and an enduring tribute to the father of our country. One of the nation’s most beloved historic sites, Mount Vernon offers a glimpse into 18th-century plantation life through beautiful grounds and gardens, intriguing museum exhibits, and immersive programs honoring George Washington’s life and legacy. After the death of his older half-brother, Lawrence, in 1752, George Washington took up residence at the house that his father, Augustine Washington, had built in 1735. Over the next five decades, Washington expanded the house to create an impressive 21-room mansion with vibrant wall colors, intricate architectural details, and elegant furnishings. The interiors have been meticulously restored to reflect their 1799 appearance. Walk through the first and second floors, where history interpreters share information about the house and its residents. There will be time to walk the gardens and visit the out-buildings, as well as The Ford Orientation Center and the Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center. Lunch is included and served on the grounds at the Mt. Vernon Inn. Please choose from the following: Tavern Cobb Salad, Colonial Turkey Pye, or Cheeseburger with Tavern Chips. Beverage, and what else but cherry pie for dessert are included. (Please indicate choice when making reservation). Don’t forget to visit the gift shop before we depart at 4 p.m.COST: $97. Includes coach, breakfast snack, admission/tour, lunch, gratuities and host.

A Day on the Eastern Shore, Tilghman and St. MichaelsTuesday, October 4, 2016 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.Our first stop is the Phillips Wharf Environmental Center where we’ll meet our guide for the day, Kelley Cox. Kelley is a marine biologist and founder, president, and executive director of the center. The center is a non-profit organization created to provide a hands-on experience and education relating to the animals and plants that inhabit the Chesapeake Bay region. Visitors will see what’s new in aquaculture and get up close and personal with some “Bay Critters.” Then it’s all-aboard a national historic landmark – the skipjack Rebecca Ruark. Set sail on the oldest working skipjack on the Chesapeake Bay, built in 1886. Enjoy nautical tales and ecology stories from fifth-gener-ation and world-renowned Capt. Wade H. Murphy Jr. on this 2-hour tour. Lunch will be at Harrison’s Chesapeake House and your choices are: Fried Oyster Platter, Chicken and Crab Cake Platter or Flounder Platter (please indicate choice when making reservation). After lunch, enjoy some free time in St. Michaels before traveling to Cordova for a tour and tasting at Triple Creek Winery – a fairly new, but thriving winery and vineyard run by the Spies family. We’ll head for home at approximately 5:30 p.m.COST: $153. Includes coach, breakfast snack, lunch, sailing, wine tasting, step-on guide, gratuities, donation to the Phillips Wharf Environmental Center, and host.

From day trips that can satisfy your every whim, to overnight and week-long excursions, our Quick Escapes take you places far and wide. Put your best foot forward … then just keep going!
