Ink-wash paintings use only black inks, but in various stroke weights in order to capture the depth and

atomsphere of scenery. In that regard, I believe the most successful architecture should be able to negotiate

with the world through simplicity of form and space, while carrying deep and complex information within.

My educational background provided an interesting starting point for me to study architecture. Coming from

Hong Kong, the intense educational system gave me an opportunity to expand my knowledge base to vari-

ous fields, from conventional studies like literature, science and geography to even controversal top ics suchas religion. It is this educational system that makes me know a little bit of everything without being proficient

    at anything.

My parents thankfully brought me to the United States and allow me to utilize my educational background

while simultaneously improving it. This is the reason why i chose architecture as my major. As an architect, I

must acquire knowledge of everything, from structure to facade, programs to site, codes to topography and

most importantly, the user experiences within my architecture design. This ever-growing learning enviroment

of architecture will only make me better as a student, a designer and a person.

    Material Strategies for

    the Physical World

Tis frst studio in a sequence o ouroundation studios introduces the student tospatial problem-solving.

A sequence o increasingly complexproblems charge the students with workingwithin two opposing knowledge-based felds:analytical and intuitive operations are appliedto the study o materials, their potential or

transormation, their capacity to suggest ideasand intentions, organizational concepts andabstract spaces.

Te interrelationship between the acto making and the process o execution arestudied. Te studio begins with anexamination o two-dimensional problems, then ocuses on problem-solving in threedimensions.

Te semester was fnish with theinstallation o Gradient, which is still beingdisplay at the mezzanine level above Sci-ArcCae.

Jazz music is never monotonous, thetechnique o improvisation allows themusicians to create dierent atomsphere

    when they perorm.

Te social interaction sparks musicians to

add lie experiences into their music pieceswhile having a private space to record/ jamwhen they reach the area that weredesigned or those purpose.

Jazz music process a harmonic melodywhich are created between the intercationo serveral unique musical instruments

which each has it own sound.

Hence, indiviuality is a main elementwithin Jazz music, solos occur requentlywithin a piece o music. Te improvisationmakes Jazz music un to play but also unto watch/ listen or the audiences thusmaking the distance between the twogroups closer and closer.

Las Vegas, being known as the Entertainment Capital othe World, is unortunately located in a desert. Tetemperature is torturous and people do not want to go outbecause o the climate. Tis community is lacking a publicspace that they can be p roud o, to hang out yet not beingexpose to the sun.

Te site, situated on the intersection between SouthDurango Dr and West Russell Road was introduced. Te

neighborhood is under developed with the addition oreeways and growing population in the area.

An idea o a green house+library is being proposed inorder to create that public space or the people who work, live or study around the community.

Tere are two major ideas behind this project:

    1. Creating micro-climate or dierent reading spacesin order to create the atomsphere or the specifc catego-ries o books.

    2. Creating a circulation that allows people to movearound the whole library to experience dierent knowl-edge base, understanding the world in a way that worksthe same as drawing a whole picture by connecting thedots.

    DYNAMIC ARCHITECTURAL SYSTEMS:

Te space o the site, located between the 20th street onrampto the westbound 10 reeway and Magnolia Ave, is limiteddue to its orientation along the reeway and the communityadjacent to it hinders the development.

A proposal o combining microhousing and skip oors litedthe living spaces up, making it narrow yet most spacious. Teuse o micro-housing also creates a continuity to the singlehousing unit community that is surrounding the site, blendingitsel smoothly with the community without being

    extravargant.

In order to give unique identity to each household, themadanely identical units are being conjoined and rotated sothat dierent views achieved or received dierent amount osunlight. Also, the shape changes according to the dierentquantity o needed bedrooms.

Even though all the units ultimately look dierent, they wereall constructed by a method which by which pieces oaluminum panels are laid on top o the steel rame structre togive the tube-like shape which ties everything back togetheragain.

    Investigating LAs

    Entropic Urban Condition

Current urban planning strategiesmake use o prescribed, predetermindedmeasures applied to static sites and ignore thecomplexity and nuances o our cities.

Urban design, in the 21st centurymust address the ever-changing array ocomplex issues that make up ourcontemporary urban culture. Urbanism today, requires a dynamic response to todays cultural

and environmental ux. Te goal o thisstudio is to develop a series o operationalstrategies drawn rom the existing conditionso the city, site and the project brie.

New organizational andprogrammatic possibilities will be uncoveredthrough the adaptation and mediation oorganizational structure. Inrastructuralramework and networked urban links willserve as a starting point. opograhpic, geometric and programmatic organizationswill be investigated.
