Philo caught attention

through her Céline

collections that embarked

on very sculpted pieces

that are three-dimensional

in form. She challenges

proportions through full-

rounded sleeves on arm

jackets, peplums that

are high on the hips with

cinched-in belts that held

all the pieces together. An

overall silhouette that is

modern and clean. Sarah

Burton for Alexander

McQueen surprised many

through her daring and

provocative display of an

underwater theme focusing

on dresses with intricate

detail of corals and shell

shapes – transporting us to

a dreamlike and fantastical

show. Other designers’

instead opted to bring

forth a youthful sweetness

to their collection.

Miu Miu threw us a series

of black and grey look

highlighting a rather dark

and grim fairytale, while

Prada kept on the sweeter

side staying in the lines

of sugary pastel hues

and cuts that fit the body

perfectly. But a recurring

trend may have been set

for the next season, and

that is a paisley print that

gracefully swept us from the

Hailder Ackermann show to

Stella McCartney’s ode to

gentlemen’s silk pajamas.

Out of the four major cities

that holds the fashion

week, the Paris Fashion

Week 2012 are seen to be

less season specific and

have come off as very

individualistic in nature, but

if a look manages to make

it through all the four cities

of London, New York, Milan

and finally Paris, then it will

be the turning tide that will

inspire fashion enthusiasts

around the world.
