Children Sabbath School Lesson #245 for 8-26-2017

Song for opening the Sabbath School:

Our Opening Song is a Hymn, entitle

“I Trust in God wherever I may be”

1- I trust in God wherever I may be,

Upon the land or on the rolling sea;

For come what may from day to day,

2- He makes the rose an object of His care,

He guides the eagle through the pathless air;

And surely He remembers me,

3- I trust in God, for, in the lion's den,

On battlefield, or in the prison pen;

Through praise or blame, through flood or flame,

4- The valley may be dark, the shadows deep,

But oh, the shepherd guards His lonely sheep;

And through the gloom, He'll lead me home,

My heav’nly Father watches over me.

I trust in God, I know He cares for me;

On mount ain bleak or on the stormy sea;

Though billows roll, He keeps my soul,

My heav'nly Father watches over me.

Opening Prayer – requesting one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer

Children’s Sabbath School _ Lesson#245 (8.26.17) Page 2

Let’s continue in our book Desire of Ages, Chapter #52, pages 479-480

As the shepherd leads his flock over the rocky hills, through forest and wild ravines, to

grassy nooks by the riverside; as he watches them on the mountains through the lonely night,

shielding from robbers, caring tenderly for the sickly and feeble, his life comes to be one with

theirs. A strong and tender attachment unites him to the objects of his care. However large the

flock, the shepherd knows every sheep. Every one has its name, and responds to the name at the

shepherd’s call. {DA 479.1}

Question: How does the shepherd’s life comes to be one with his sheep’s? And, how does a

strong and tender attachment unite him to the objects of his care?

Answer: As the shepherd leads his flock over the rocky hills, through forest and wild

ravines, to grassy nooks by the riverside; as he watches them on the mountains through the lonely

night, shielding from robbers, caring tenderly for the sickly and feeble. And, he knows every

sheep. Everyone has its name, and responds to the name at his call.

As an earthly shepherd knows his sheep, so does the divine Shepherd know His flock that

are scattered throughout the world. “Ye My flock, the flock of My pasture, are men, and I am

your God, saith the Lord God.” Jesus says, “I have called thee by thy name; thou art Mine.”

“I have graven thee upon the palms of My hands.” Ezekiel 34:31; Isaiah 43:1; 49:16.

{DA 479.2}

Jesus knows us individually, and is touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He knows

us all by name. He knows the very house in which we live, the name of each occupant. He has at

times given directions to His servants to go to a certain street in a certain city, to such a house, to

find one of His sheep. {DA 479.3}

Question: Does the divine Shepherd know His flock as an earthly shepherd knows his sheep?

And, what is the flock of His pasture and how did they become His?

Answer: Yes! So does, He know His flock that are scattered throughout the world. And,

the flock of My pasture, are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord God.” Jesus says, “I have

called thee by thy name; thou art Mine.” “I have graven thee upon the palms of My hands.”

Song: Let’s learn a beautiful scripture song together dear one, from the book of Isaiah!

graven thee upon the palms

Every soul is as fully known to Jesus as if he were the only one for whom the Saviour

died. The distress of every one touches His heart. The cry for aid reaches His ear. He came to

draw all men unto Himself. He bids them, “Follow Me,” and His Spirit moves upon their hearts to

draw them to come to Him. Many refuse to be drawn. Jesus knows who they are. He also knows

who gladly hear His call, and are ready to come under His pastoral care. He says, “My sheep hear

My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” He cares for each one as if there were not

another on the face of the earth. {DA 480.1}

Question: How is every soul fully known to Jesus who bids them, “Follow Me”? And, does He

know the ones who refuse to be drawn as well as the ones who gladly hear His call?

Answer: He does as if he were the only one for whom He died. The distress of every one

touches His heart. The cry for aid reaches His ear. His Spirit moves upon their hearts to draw

them to come to Him. And, yes! Jesus knows who they are. He also knows who gladly hear His

call, and are ready to come under His pastoral care.

“He calleth His own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. . . . And the sheep follow Him:

for they know His voice.” The Eastern shepherd does not drive his sheep. He depends not upon

force or fear; but going before, he calls them. They know his voice, and obey the call. So does the

Saviour-Shepherd with His sheep. The Scripture says, “Thou leddest Thy people like a flock by

the hand of Moses and Aaron.” Through the prophet, Jesus declares, “I have loved thee with an

everlasting love: therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee.” He compels none to follow

Him. “I drew them,” He says, “with cords of a man, with bands of love.” Psalm 77:20; Jeremiah

31:3; Hosea 11:4. {DA 480.2}

Question: Does the Eastern shepherd drive his sheep? And, who does the same with his sheep

and are known by Him; and obey His voice when He calls them?

Answer: No! He depends not upon force or fear; but going before, he calls them. They

know his voice, and obey the call. And, so does the Saviour-Shepherd with His sheep. Jesus

declares, “I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn

thee.” “He compels none to follow Him. “I drew them,” He says, “with cords of a man, with

bands of love.”

Song: Let’s learn another beautiful scripture song together dear one, from the book of Jeremiah!

It is not the fear of punishment, or the hope of everlasting reward, that leads the disciples

of Christ to follow Him. They behold the Saviour's matchless love, revealed throughout His

pilgrimage on earth, from the manger of Bethlehem to Calvary's cross, and the sight of Him

attracts, it softens and subdues the soul. Love awakens in the heart of the beholders. They hear

His voice, and they follow Him. {DA 480.3}

Question: What does and does not lead the Disciples of Christ to follow Him? And, what

awakens in them and how do they respond to their Saviour?

Answer: It is not the fear of punishment, or the hope of everlasting reward. They behold

the Saviour's matchless love, revealed throughout His pilgrimage, from the manger of Bethlehem

to Calvary's cross, and the sight of Him attracts, it softens and subdues the soul. And, Love

awakens in the heart of the beholders. They hear His voice, and they follow Him.

As the shepherd goes before his sheep, himself first encountering the perils of the way, so

does Jesus with His people. “When He putteth forth His own sheep, He goeth before them.” The

way to heaven is consecrated by the Saviour's footprints. The path may be steep and rugged, but

Jesus has traveled that way; His feet have pressed down the cruel thorns, to make the pathway

easier for us. Every burden that we are called to bear He Himself has borne. {DA 480.4}

Question: By what is the way to heaven consecrated by? And, how is the path that Jesus has

traveled described in the paragraph?

Answer: The Saviour's footprints. The path may be steep and rugged, but Jesus has

traveled that way; His feet have pressed down the cruel thorns, to make the pathway easier for us.

Every burden that we are called to bear He Himself has borne.

Song: Let’s learn our last beautiful scripture song together dear ones, from the book of Isaiah!”

Scripture Singer-Patience

Isaiah 53:4-6 (KJV) Surely he hath borne our griefs,

and carried our sorrows:

yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

But he [was] wounded for our transgressions,

[he was] bruised for our iniquities:

the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him;

and with his stripes we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray;

we have turned every one to his own way;

and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

It’s Story Time!

Our book selection this Sabbath is entitle,

“Sons and Daughters of God”

Chapter 6-Counsel of a True Friend Rejoices the Heart Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty

counsel. Proverbs 27:9. {SD 161.1}

Things will go wrong with every one; sadness and discouragement press every soul; then

a personal presence, a friend who will comfort and impart strength, will turn back the darts of the

enemy that are aimed to destroy. Christian friends are not half as plentiful as they should be. In

hours of temptation, in a crisis, what a value is a true friend! Satan at such times sends along his

agents to cause the trembling limbs to stumble; but the true friends who will counsel, who will

impart magnetic hopefulness, the calming faith that uplifts the soul,--oh, such help is worth more

than precious pearls. {SD 161.2}

The life of Samuel from early childhood had been a life of piety and devotion. He had

been placed under the care of Eli in his youth, and the loveliness of his character drew forth the

warm affection of the aged priest. He was kind, generous, diligent, obedient, and respectful. . . .

It was a singular thing that between Eli, the chief magistrate of the nation, and the simple child

so warm a friendship should exist. Samuel was helpful and affectionate, and no father ever loved

his child more tenderly than did Eli this youth. . . . {SD 161.3}

How touching to see youth and old age relying one upon the other, the youth looking up

to the aged for counsel and wisdom, the aged looking to the youth for help and sympathy. This is

as it should be. God would have the young possess such qualification of character that they shall

find delight in the friendship of the old, that they may be united in the endearing bonds of

affection to those who are approaching the borders of the grave. {SD 161.4}

A strong, helpful grasp of the hand of a true friend is worth more than gold and silver.

{SD 161.5}.
