ThemeDirections of ASEAN Countries Bordering Thailand.

AimsStudents will be able to understand directions and where ASEAN countries lie in relation to Thailand. They will learn how to read a map and be able to understand the basic notion of what a culture is.

WarmerEvery student gets a passport. In each of the four corners of the room, there will be a label with the name of a country/famous structures of each country. Each student will get their passport and we will gather in the center of the room at “Bangkok Airport.” I will instruct the students to go a certain direction and they’ll “fly” to whichever country they think is to that direction. At each station, there will be stickers. The students at the correct country will get a sticker to “stamp” their passports. We will then go back to BKK and I’ll yell another direction and they’ll repeat.

North=Laos East= Cambodia South= Malaysia West= Myanmar

CoolerStudents will choose a vocab word from a hat. Each word will be in the hat twice, one with a #1 and one with a #2. Students will go outside. #1s will be on one side and #2s will be on the other. The students will shut their eyes and call out their words. Students

must listen and pronounce their words carefully. The object of the game is to find the other person with your vocab word. As teams finish, they will get another stamp for their passports.

If compass activity is too much, students can color in their passports and write on the inside what countries they’ve visited/which ones they would like to.

Kimmy’s ASEAN Adventure

1. Hi! My name is Kimmy! I am 18 years old, and I live Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand.

2. I am almost done with school! In March, I will travel to some ASEAN countries near Thailand!

3. At school, I learned about the 10 different ASEAN countries. You have probably learned about them, too!

4. I love traveling and learning. I want to learn about different a culture.

5. Every country has a culture. Language, religion, art, and food are all a part of culture.

6. There are 4 countries that border Thailand. They are Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and Malaysia.

8. First, I will go to Cambodia. Cambodia is to the east of Thailand. I am excited to see the mountains there.

11.Buddhism is the biggest religion in all three of these countries.

13. I will stay in Malaysia for 1 year to study. I will stay here because want to learn about Islam.
