Ankara is the capital of Turkey

The Turkish Republic was founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1923.

Most Turks are Muslims but the Turkish Republic is a secular state.

Turkey has long seashores, connecting with Istanbul and the Canakkale (Dardanel) Straits. These straits are the gates allowing countries around the Black Sea to reach the Mediterranean Sea.

Turkey is one of the richest countries in the world in water resources

Our mountains contribute to the national economy through winter sports, mountain, climbing, camping,

tourism and the forestry industry.

 

Turkey has various climates due to its unique geographical. These four different climates increase

the variety of agricultural products.

Products of a tropical climate: ( tea, hazelnut, banana and citrus fruits) products of continental climate: (grain and sugar-beet root) products of a mediterranean climate: (cotton, olive, fig and various fruits) are all produced in our country.

As a result, we also have many factories to process those agricultural products.

The climate on Agean and Mediterranean shores of Turkey is very famous for its sea and summertime tourism. Great investments in this sector have made summer tourism one of the most important industies in the Turkish economy.

Two of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World stood in Turkey- The Temple of Artemis in Ephesus and The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus in Bodrum.

The word “turquoise” comes from “Turk” meaning Turkish, and was derived from the beautiful colour of the Mediterranean Sea on the southern Turkish coast

St. Nicholas, known as Santa Claus today,was born and lived in Demre(Myra) on Turkey’s Meditterrean coast.

Anatolia is the birthplace of many historic figures and legends such as the poet Homer, King Midas and Herodotus ( the father of history).

• The Turks first gave the Dutch their famous tulips creating for the flowers in England and the Netherlands.

• This period of elegance and entertainment in 17th century Turkey is referred to as ‘The Tulip Age’.

The city of Troy, the site of the ancient Trojan Wars, is located in western Turkey, where a replica of the famous Trojan Horse has become a favorite tourist attraction.

Turkish cooks are heirs to one of the worlds finest cuisines. The Turks brought a tradition of cooking with them out of Central Asia and discovered new foods and ways to prepare them in Asia minor.

In Turkish cuisine, as in so many other Turkish things, East meets West in a delightful way.

The rich tradition of Turkish cuisine is popular throughout the world. It includes a wide variety of hot and cold hors d’oeuvres known everywhere as “meze”, a wide selection of grilled meats(kebab), sea food, stuffed and wrapped vegetables (dolma), savory pastries ( börek), pilav and dishes with olive oil and butter as well as a wide variety of desserts, inculding Turkish delight, baklava, helva, kadayıf and several puddings.

A good meal naturally ends with fine Turkish coffee.

Turkish carpets are famous all over the world. The most valuable silk carpet in the world is in the

Mevlana Museum in Konya, Turkey. Marco Polo’s journeys in the 13th century brought

him here, and he remarked that “the best and handsomest of rugs” were to be found in Turkey.

Cappadocia

Cappadocia means” country of beautiful horses” in Persian language.

The territory was formed by the lava and ashes from the Erciyes and Hasandağı volcanos 60 million years ago. Human settlement dates back to the paleolithic age.

At first Hitites lived in this territory. After that, Christians carved into the rockscreating homes and churches thus creating a huge shelter.
