Animals Around Us & St. Patricks Day

We will be talking about animals around us this month! For alphabet time, we will be working on Letters Ll, Kk, and Uu. We will also be hard at work on rhyming, blending words, and letter sounds. We will match sounds with letters, work on telling numbers and letters apart, and identify letters in print.

In Book Time, we will be reading Moo Moo, Brown Cow, Clifford the Small Red Puppy, and Farms ABC. Also, in Book Time, we will read The Three Little Pigs, Hey Diddle Diddle, and Now Things Are Worse.

For Science, we will be observing animals and learn how pets grow. We will discuss and look at pictures of baby animals.

For Math, we will be counting 1 - 10.

For Social Studies, we will be talking about our pets and farms.

For Music, we will be singing and dancing to Old MacDonald Had a Farm, Bingo, and Funeral March of a Marionette.

LANA

This month we will continue our Vegetarian Animals theme. We had broccoli for snack last month and surprisingly, lots of kids ate it and enjoyed it! (Even some that won’t touch it at lunch!)

We will be reading Lunch, Handa’s Surprise, and Rabbit Food. We will also be reading Lana and Willie eat lunch when Lana comes for a visit. We will be discussing how some animals like fruits and vegetables. We will talk about how the fruits and vegetables not only keep animals strong and health, but it helps keep us strong and healthy too.

Kid-Fit

This month in Kid-Fit the unit is Body Parts. We will be teaching the children good touch/bad touch, good secret/bad secret, and how to keep their bodies safe and healthy. We will also cover what they should do if they ever get lost.

Curriculum Info for: March

New Birthday PolicyLBLC is going to follow in the Hastings School District footsteps and go treat-free for birthdays.

We know that birthdays are an important and special day for our children and we still want to celebrate. Instead of doing it with food, let’s make their day special in other ways.

Be creative! Kids can do fun things like:

*Bring a book to share with the class *Wear a special outfit or pjs *Bring a special birthday show & share *Bring a birthday gift for the classroom *Bring stickers, tattoos, or pencils to share with the class

What a fun month February was! We had a lot of fun with our transportation unit. We made cars, trucks, airplanes and a neat transportation book. We even made traffic lights and license plates. We’ve been working hard on our ABC’s and our names. Brooke, Josie and Jibi can pick out the first letters of their names. The first half of February was spent getting ready for Valentine’s Day. We had a party complete with a ball pit and cookies and juice.

For the month of March we will celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Our March unit will be Animals Around Us so we will be having fun with farm animal crafts and stories.

Our room is coming together. I have made several changes but the overall curriculum is the same. The children and I have a lot of fun together and we laugh a lot. It’s an awesome group.

Anna will be moving to the Turtles in March joining Kaylin. We will miss her but she’s a big girl now and it’s her turn to make the move.

All of the children are talking more, especially Jibi. She is picking up new words almost daily. We’ve been working on manners and using our words when things aren’t quite going our way.

Needless to say, we’re anxious for warmer weather so that we can get outside. Hopefully, we’ll have a few nice days in March.

If you have any questions or concerns, please be sure to let me know either by email or phone. Your children are great and I feel very blessed to be working with them.

Ms. Karolyn [email protected]

Hello families of Little Beginnings,

My name is Lauren Roubinek and I am a student at Metropolitan University, I am currently majoring in Early Childhood Studies. I am hoping to graduate with my bachelors degree in December of 2015.

Previously I attended Saint Paul College and I received my Associates Degree in Early Childhood with American Sign Language.

I chose Little Beginnings as the place for my internship because the staff are all so kind and very easy to work with.

During my internship I will be observing and also doing some activities with the children. Karolyn, as the lead teacher of the classroom, will be my supervisor and will oversee everything I do while I am in the classroom. I am ready to learn all that I can about the way that children learn, and I am excited to be a part of this learning process. I look forward to these next few months in the Caterpillar Classroom at Little Beginnings.

- Lauren Roubinek
