WE LIVE IN an increasingly complex world. We have to do more in less time. We constantly have to make adaptations to new, often stricter demands. Need fulfilment is more important than ever before. So greater efficiency, higher qual-ity, better use of resources and environmentally sound choices are just some of the challenges we all need to meet to ensure success. This applies to Lindab, and to all of our customers.

For more than 50 years our motto has been “simplifying construction”. This has brought suc-cess for our customers, and for us. We have recently implemented an organisational change called One Lindab, which has brought our entire offering under a single umbrella. We want to take the idea of simplification to a new level and make everything easier with Lindab as a partner. We believe this is necessary in a complex world.

We want to simplify everything – project plan-ning, ordering, delivery, goal attainment, fitting, and every aspect of doing business with us. Today we not only have a very wide, well-reputed range of products and solutions for ventilation and building, we also have specialist expertise in many areas such as technical design, fire, sound, energy and environment. The idea behind One Lindab is to give all our customers access to all these areas in a simple, coherent way, and through their normal Lindab contact.

Our focus is a flat, fast, co-ordinated organi-sation that puts service and support above all else. Without exception, I have met with a posi-tive response from all the customers I have seen recently. The feeling many of them convey is that they are pleased to see that Lindab is clearly ‘back’ and that we are equipped and ready for the future. This is of course very pleasing.

Lindab has always been on a journey, and now is no exception. Simplification is about constantly understanding and capturing new customer needs, and matching them as quickly as pos-sible. New technical solutions through cutting-edge product development, combined with leading know-how and support, are important stages on the road to simplification. But is also entails measures that make life easier such as more branch offices, new digital tools and always being on our toes to help solve our customers’ problems.

Our indoor climate solutions are a good example of how investments in satisfying cus-tomer needs, and simplifying the way of doing business with us, have truly met with a positive response from the market and our customers. Lindab’s new indoor climate solutions, such as

Pascal and Solus, are characterised by high energy efficiency, and are therefore important, natural components in the production of low energy buildings and passive houses – i.e. the construction of the future.

Moreover, eco-friendly solutions and energy efficiency are increasingly coming to the fore in all construction. Bringing these issues into focus and developing new solutions with a green profile in all our product areas is therefore absolutely pivotal to us.

We are now strengthening our presence on several markets, as you can read about in this issue of Lindab Direct. The more customers we can open doors for and give access to the resources of a large company on a close, local level, the better.

All in all, we strongly believe that all this makes us a more attractive partner for our customers. However, there is always room for improvement, so comments, ideas and opinions, positive and negative, from our customers are incredibly valuable.

Below is my phone number and e-mail address. Please feel free to contact me with any comments and ideas you may have. How can we be better? What should we change? Is there anything important we’re missing? You have the answers, and you can put us on the right track as to how we can help you – our customers – to increase your competi-tiveness and improve your business.

I hope and trust that a simpler working life will also make it easier to choose Lindab. Wishing you all a productive, rewarding autumn and winter season, full of activity and good busi-ness!

Simply simplify!

FOR JUST UNDER a year now we have been working under our new organisational structure, One Lindab. It has a clear, fun-damental objective: to give our customers a broader, more complete offering and an even simpler working day.

“In the past Lindab was run in business areas with separate functions for building and ventilation products,” explains Bengt Andersson, head of the Market, Product

and Key Account department at Lindab. “However, whether it’s downpipes and gutters or a complex indoor climate system with VAV control, essentially it always came down to products and solutions for con-struction. Now we can give all our custo-

mers a more complete offering and access to the far-reaching construction expertise in our organisa-tion.”

When it comes to areas like fire, sound, energy and environment, Lindab has gathered its knowledge so that customers can access it more easily.

“With One Lindab we can therefore now offer our customers professional consultation and product choice support in these ar-

eas, which are so important when it comes to building,” Bengt Andersson continues. “We’re convinced this will mean our cus-tomers can really benefit from our overall

expertise as smartly as possible, whether we’re talking about building or ventilation solutions.”

Another aim of One Lindab is to give customers a simple, uncomplicated con-tact interface with Lindab, whatever kind of solution they are looking for.

“Obviously our customers still have the same Lindab contact they’re used to, but now that person has whole new possibili-ties to use the rest of the Lindab organi-sation when the customer has a more specialised request,” Bengt Andersson continues. “Our core values Neatness and Order, Down-to-Earth and Customer Suc-cess already guide us in what we do. Our aim with One Lindab is to further increase our ability to provide you with complete solutions – solutions that bring you success and competitive advantages in a tough, increasingly demanding market.”

Customer benefit: One Lindab

For many years, Lindab has sold its products and solutions via different business areas. Now,

though, we are tearing down the walls and bringing our complete building portfolio under one

roof – One Lindab. This makes life easier for our customers and paves the way for interesting new

opportunities.

THE INNOVATIVE valve Lindab Airy creates new opportunities for the living

room, bathroom and bedroom, and for a better indoor climate. By combining colour, shape and function, Lindab Airy creates endless possibilities for fresher air and individual customisation.

Lindab Airy is an efficient streamlined valve with revolutionary low sound values. In discreet white, bright colours, wallpaper pattern or shiny stainless. “We decided to

think outside the box and thought it must be possible to combine exciting new design, good function and simple assembly,” says Göran Hultmark of Lindab. “Lindab Airy is compatible with all ventilation systems and can be wall or ceiling mounted. Quick

Say Hi! to Lindab

DISTRIBUTION AND local presence – the ability to be

where the customer is – have always been key for Lindab. Continually opening new

branches and sales offices, as well as entering new countries and markets, is important in our aim of simplifying

construction and assuring success for our customers.

It is now time once again for builders, tinsmiths and ventilation installers across Europe to say Hi! to

Lindab in their home territories. Here are some of the places where Lindab now flies its flag. Welcome!

New market:Sales office, Istanbul, Turkey

New branches:Odintsovo (Moscow), RussiaLa Défense, Paris, France Nantes, France Bratislava, SlovakiaÅlesund, Norway

assembly and simple adjustment of the air flow are important benefits, while the combinations offered by Airy in terms of ap-pearance, colour and size add the finishing touch.”

Lindab Airy is available in five different front designs, and in three sizes. The front itself is available with a bare surface ready for painting or papering, in a selection of colours and in stain-less steel. “Customers can choose whether the valve is visible and truly stands out on the wall, or discreetly blends in and ‘becomes one’ with the wall,” Göran Hultmark concludes. “With Airy virtually anything is possible. It’s the adaptable valve!”

Mobile toolsAS WE ALL know, PCs these days have

competition, or help, from Apple and Android smartphones and tablets when it comes to putting information and solutions where they are most needed. Lindab is of course on the case, and during the year we have launched a number of useful apps for builders, ventila-tion fitters and hall builders.

Vent Tools, as the name suggests, is de-signed for the ventilation sector and contains a series of smart tools for basic ventilation installations. Dimensioning of circular and rectangular ducts, offset for bends and T-pieces, as well as insulation lengths and ceiling angle can all be worked out quickly and easily from any place.

Wall Selector is an effective tool for design-ers and engineers in wall construction. The app can be used to quickly outline wall con-structions that meet the necessary noise and fire regulations. The app presents Lindab’s partition wall solutions, along with a range of wall types with different specifications that make it easy to do the job right. There are also handy contact details for the nearest Lindab stockist.

EcoBuild is a complete tool for configura-tion of Astron’s new, economic and ecologic building called ‘EcoBuild’. Here the user can quickly put together ‘their’ building and freely select dimensions, window and door placement, colours and more, naturally all in 3D. Moreover, an inquiry can be directly sent to Astron with a price and delivery time by return e-mail.

THE ROOFS OF SHOPPING MALLS – flat roofs at any rate – are often used as parking spaces for customers or sometimes as activity centres for their children. There are however more exciting possibili-ties, as demonstrated by the Alfa Market shopping mall in the holiday and spa town of Luhacovice, Czech Republic, where the expansive roof area has been used very differently. Today the roof supports 17 attractive duplex apartments, part of the Eden holiday complex and constructed using Lindab’s lightweight construction technology. And they’re close to the shops too!

“The light, pre-fabricated steel construction proved perfect in every way,” explains Pavel Runa of Lindab. “It gave the architects complete freedom in the design process and could easily be adapted to the building requirements in Luhacovice. The ability to build 17 apartments in a central location in a densely populated, fully developed area is, of course, interesting from many perspectives. The construc-tion and low weight of the elements also simplified assembly and management, eliminating the need for heavy machinery.”

In addition to the steel construction itself, Lindab also supplied all the roof cladding and rainwater systems in the form of Lindab SRP 25 and Lindab Rainline respectively.

The apartments, which were designed by archi-tect duo Dum-Dum on behalf of building contractor

Aperta Group, are characterised by modern, com-pact design with appealing space in a small area, which creates the desired luxurious feel. The apart-ments are L-shaped with a footprint of 7.2 x 10 m. They have a living room, kitchen and dining room on the lower level and a bedroom and bathroom on the upper level. Each apartment also has its own lawn.

“Working with Lindab’s lightweight construc-tion system is really nice and simple and it gives us exactly the possibilities we’re looking for,” say archi-tects Borek Knytl and Josef Omelka of Dum-Dum. “Sometimes new technology can be limiting, but the product systems from Lindab give us full creative and architectural freedom, while also enabling us to make low-weight buildings that can be located in this quite unique way. Their technical support is also in a league of its own!”

Prior to building the duplex apartments, the exist-ing roof was replaced with a completely waterproof cladding ready for the green spaces. “Once con-struction began it all ran like clockwork,” says Josef Gronych of KKS-Servis. “Lindab supplied us with the construction and assembly drawings and assembly was problem free – we put the buildings together as Lindab delivered the labelled wall profiles. The colour-matched Lindab SRP 25 roof and Rainline rainwater systems were the icing on the cake!”

Lindab ConstrulineLindab CoverlineLindab Rainline

in brief

Delivery of a complete package of lightweight construction solutions from Lindab made it possible to utilise the otherwise unused roof of a shopping mall in the Czech Republic. Building contractor Aperta Group had 17 exclusive duplex apartments built in a quite unexpected loca-tion – right in the middle of Luhacovice town centre.

When a roof becomes a foundation

LIGHTLY APPEALING The 17 apartments in the Eden housing complex above the Alfa Market shopping mall in the Czech town of Luhacov-ice are not only a very lightweight construction, they are without a doubt also highly appealing.

CONSTRULINE Thanks to Lindab’s range of products for lightweight construction, the entire housing complex could be planned and designed simply and assembled quickly and easily on site – i.e. straight on the roof of the shopping mall.

NO SHORTAGE OF LAND Using the roof of an existing building suddenly makes centrally located land available. Very practical!

Lightweight construction is a winner in every way: less weight, easier assembly work, and easier

handling and logistics. It’s also easy to see the opportunities all this presents, just as architects

Dum-Dum and builders KKS-Servis did when new apartments were needed in a location with no

apparent available space.

GOTHENBURG NEW ARENA is not only the largest multisports centre in the Nordic region; it is also the result of a passion for sport and a genuine commitment to offering young people and adults better opportunities to develop their sports.

Construction company Serneke and Prioritet Finans are behind the project, which is scheduled for completion in spring 2015. The unique installation will include an indoor skiing facility, a full-size football pitch, two sports halls, an elementary school, an upper secondary sports school, a restaurant, conferencing, a gym, an injury clinic for athletes, a sports hotel and more. With an area of 45,300 m2 the arena is set to become one of Gothenburg’s biggest buildings.

Lindab is responsible for supplying roof and wall elements for the large football hall, as well as the circular duct system for the entire arena.

Lindab has supplied Varla Bleck & Plåt with around 12,000 m2 of perforated Lindab LHP 200 for the football pitch’s vaulted roof, as well as around 3,000 m2 of sandwich panelling for its walls. In addi-tion there are some 100,000 screws from Unite for fastening. “Being able to source the entire package – roofing profiles, assembly fixtures, sandwich pan-els and all the screws – from a single supplier is a major advantage,” says Reine Andersson, Assembly Manager for Varla Bleck & Plåt. “It makes ordering, suborders and delivery easier, but above all Lindab is responsible both for the construction and the con-nection between the roof and façade. This means there’s a joined-up approach to the entire construc-

tion, and means problem-free, uncomplicated as-sembly for us. The assembly drawings provided by Lindab have also helped us considerably.”

As usual the construction schedule has been tight and all the deliveries have had to follow dead-lines. “Everything has worked really well and we’ve received everything on time,” Reine Andersson continues. “Even when the ordering client brought the delivery schedule forward, Lindab managed to keep up with the deliveries, which is great!”

Bravida is responsible for all installations at Gothenburg New Arena and is currently around half way through assembling the duct system. “All the duct systems here are circular Lindab Safe, which we’re familiar with,” explains Peter Nemere, Project Manager at Bravida. “Assembly got off to a flying start, but Lindab had no trouble supplying us with ducts, silencers and parts from the very beginning. We place all our orders via our own system, Bravis, which is linked directly to Lindab. It all works very smoothly, and if anything happens we get swift sup-port and assistance from Jan Derevall and his team at Lindab Borås.”

Precise deliveries at set times are also very important to Bravida. “Large amounts of ducts and a lot of transport deadlines are involved, so it’s ab-solutely essential that the deliveries flow as planned. And they do!” concludes Nemere, to the agreement of all the fitters present.

Delivery of roofing profiles and sandwich panels to Varla Bleck & Plåt, and the complete circular duct sys-tem to Bravida for Goth-enburg New Arena. The unique multisports arena, located in the old barracks area of Kviberg in north-east Gothenburg, spans 45,300 m2 and includes a full-size football pitch and a 1.1 km cross-country skiing track, all under the cover of a roof.

Reliable deliveries coupled with packaged solutions that genuinely fit together may not sound that

special. However, they are absolutely crucial to modern construction and are an important part of a

simpler working day. This is certainly the view of Varla Bleck & Plåt and Bravida, who are busy work-

ing on the new multisports arena called Göteborgs Nya Arena (Gothenburg New Arena).

THE ITALIAN CITY of Bologna is a natural junc-tion between Continental Europe and the Medi-terranean. The expansion of the TAV high-speed railway along the Milan-Bologna-Florence route called for a new central station in Bologna to handle the ever-increasing train travel.

Architects Arata Isosaki and Andrea Maffei de-signed the new central station with separate levels for the TAV, the local metro system and the regular rail network (SFM). As large parts of the new central station are underground, ventilation systems with heating, cooling and above all smoke evacuation were required. Lindab’s extensive expertise in ven-tilation systems and smoke evacuation was a key reason why installer Xfire Sistemi chose Lindab.

“Experienced subcontractors are critical to this kind of complex, far-reaching project,” says Roberto Massaro, project manager at Xfire Sistemi. “This may be our first collaboration with Lindab, but their expertise and know-how in ventilation and smoke evacuation, their delivery capability and high product quality made them the natural choice for us. We have had no reason to regret our decision. What’s more, certified products that fulfil all the technical specifications are absolutely crucial in this type of installation. Lindab is clearly at the forefront in this respect.”

The construction coincided with an extensive transition from Italian norms for fire and smoke

evacuation to a European standard. “Thanks to our experience from the major MOSE project, for example, we could help clear up any questions and uncertainties while planning the station project,” says Lindab engineer Enrico Audisio.

“Lindab didn’t just provide high technical exper-tise and quality products,” Roberto Massaro con-tinues. “With a project of this size, in the middle of a city and taking over three years, perfect delivery logistics are absolutely crucial. “Lindab’s struc-tured, co-ordinated deliveries ran smoothly, which gave us great security and peace of mind in our work. They truly delivered on their aim of bringing customer success! The way I see it, Lindab’s knowledge has also helped increase safety and peace of mind for the 180,000 or so rail passen-gers who pass through Bologna’s new central station every day.”

Lindab Safe

in brief

Delivery of circular and rectangular ducts, fire dampers and comprehen-sive technical support for Xfire Sistemi and Bolo-gna’s new central station on several levels. The duct system, which is a revers-ible system for supply air and smoke evacuation when required, fulfils the new EU norms for this type of installation.

Passenger safety for Bologna

JUNCTION Bologna’s new central station and the extended high-speed railway network consoli-date the city’s role as a natural junction between Continental Europe and the Mediterranean. The ventilation and smoke evacuation system has been delivered entirely by Lindab.

180,000 passengers a day will enjoy fresh air and greater safety thanks to the comprehensive Lindab system.

Bologna's New Central Railway Stationand the requalification of the Ravone areaBologna is a natural crossroads between Continental Europe and the Mediterraneanbasin. It is crossed by goods and people from Europe and the Mediterranean area. Theconstruction of the Milan-Bologna and Bologna-Florence sections of the High Speed (TAV)railway is almost completed. The railway station itself will undergo renovation, completedby the addition of new parking areas. For this reason, a territorial agreement was signedin 2006 between local authorities and RFI (Italian Railway Network) for a completerenovation of the railway hub, affecting 35 hectares of land. The new Central RailwayStation will cover 180,000 sqm of land, suitable for construction 42,000 sqm for stationrelated services and 120,000 sqm for complementary urban functions such as shops, offices and hotels. The international competition for the architectural and urban designof the new Central Station is drawing to a close (the bidding was called in 2007). The12 bidders selected from the 52 contestants are currently developing the project:

The new railway hub will also serve as an intermodal transit point and a vital part of thenational and metropolitan railway network which will integrate all urban and suburbanpublic transport systems, including the High Speed train, the People Mover, the tram-subwayand the Metropolitan Railway System (SFM). The Bologna railway station will become 'multi-storey', with the station for the High Speed trains underground and the renovated historicalstation at ground level accommodating the Metropolitan Railway System (SFM), local andlong-distance trains, as well as new buildings for station services and additional urbanfunctions (shops, offices and hotels). The new station is expected to have 180,000 passengersand customers passing through it daily, which will make it the city of Bologna's main hubfor public transport.

Logical solutions for LegoTHE DELIVERIES TO Lego’s new plant in Kladno, Czech Re-

public, are yet another example of how Lindab’s know-how in different areas can

come together to form a turnkey solution. The product in this case is a complete indoor climate system with cooling and smoke evacuation for Lego’s new pro-duction plant just outside Prague.

The duct system is being put in by installers Komerc, while Klimatest is responsible for the smoke evacuation system and Alpine Energie for installing some 200 Plexus cooling beams.

“Lindab’s products are certified for smoke and fire evacuation,” says Zdenek Pauli of Klimatest, when asked why

Lindab was chosen as the supplier. “They also have industry-leading expertise in the area.”

“When it comes to chilled beams, we have already used Plexus in other Lego projects, and because the client has been satisfied with the results it was the natural choice here too,” adds Jan Kodytek of Alpine Energie.

The installations began in March this year and are expected to be complete towards the end of 2014.

LOW ENERGY CONSUMPTION which meets or exceeds one of the many standards in place today is more the rule than the exception for all new construction. However, after 2020 will see stricter requirements in this area, as all new or extensively remodelled buildings in Eu-rope will have to meet an EU directive for nearly zero energy consumption.

Lindab’s Building Systems division began the job of developing and adapting the Astron system to this future standard already several years ago. “Key areas are greater tightness, reduction of thermal bridges, the use of solar

power and much more,” says Pascal Brinks, the man heading up this project at Astron, which is a collaboration with

Kaiserslautern technical university and Luxem-bourg’s National Research Fund. “Much of the research in the area has been carried out on residential buildings, and the results have then been adapted for commercial construction.

Our challenge is to identify zero-energy so-lutions that are directly adapted for commercial and industrial construction. Our research has already turned up some interesting results. We now have to translate these into practically ap-plicable solutions and subsystems in the Astron concept, and further enhance energy efficiency in our systems.”

Construction company Johann Bott is an Astron Builder and a longstanding partner of Astron, which put the focus on energy-efficient

buildings at an early stage. “Construction is a complex process that only works well if all the various aspects are perfectly co-ordinated,” explains Bernd Ludwig, Managing Director of Johann Bott. “We’ve been constructing buildings for five generations and more than 170 years, and we not only learnt this early on, we were also a pioneer in Germany in energy-efficient buildings.”

When the company built its headquarters in Guldental in the 1970s, it was equipped with a heat pump, solar panels and a floor heating system. “At the time it was all quite ‘exotic’, but the system turned out to work very well and continues to do so today,” Bernd Ludwig con-tinues. “Since then we have built many energy-efficient buildings. In 2004 for example we built a new municipal sports hall and cultural centre in Grolsheim with energy consumption 73% below the German standard – so low that the building became a local Agenda 21 specimen.” More recently Johann Bott has built a 2,000 m2 Astron building equipped with solar panels and heat pumps. “The building has not only achieved the Nearly Zero-Energy Building standard, but also Energy-Plus House status as it produces more energy than it uses,” Bernd continues. “Astron is an important partner for us in this development as it has long been working on construction systems for greater energy efficiency. I am convinced that the ef-forts they are making now to further strengthen themselves in this area will make Astron an even more important business partner!”

The future EU standard 2010/31 that after 2021 all new buildings or extensive rebuilds

should be Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings is already affecting the development of energy-

efficient systems in the world of construction. Astron has been working in this area

already since several years.

THE MAX RESEARCH facility in the Brunns-hög area of Lund will soon be ranked one of the world’s leading centres for synchrotron light research. With the new MAX IV, the centre will comprise five storage rings. Laser is used to create extremely short pulses of electrons, which are then accelerated to almost the speed of light in a linear accelerator. When the electrons are then injected into the storage ring, powerful magnets deflect the electron path into a circle, which creates what is called synchrotron light. The synchrotron light source is then used for highly sophisticated research at nanotech level in fields such as material science, biotechnology, medicine and environmental research.

Lindab has already supplied the façade for the circular MAX IV building. Delivery of an extensive Lindab Safe duct system for the facility has also been under way since 2012.

in brief

Deliveries to Imtech and complete duct systems for research buildings and offices at the new MAX IV synchrotron light laboratory outside Lund, Sweden. Smooth logistics with booking in Imtech’s own business system and reliable precision deliveries have assured a problem-free installation flow.

A DUCT SYSTEM with an industrial feel and a flawless surface. “These were the architects’ requirements when

MasterChef Studios contacted us about a duct system for the newly designed TV studio for the popular TV programme,” explains John Smith, Contract Director at Imperial Ductwork Services in the UK. “Being able to deliver a complete Lindab system of flawless quality, down to the smallest screw, was highly appreciated. The fact that, thanks to Lindab, we could also deliver in a very short time was an added bonus. We’ll have to live with the fact that the duct sys-tem itself is for studio decoration only, the main thing is that the customer is satisfied!”

The delivery encompassed round 400 and 100 mm ducts, as well as components such as fasteners, but did not include the ventilation itself – the aim was solely to create the ‘right atmosphere’ for the studio and its lighting. “The architects had seen our installation of Lindab ducts at the Apple Store in Covent Garden, London, and found the feeling to be just right,” Smith continues. “We also knew from experience that Lindab could

help us with this special delivery, but when we realised we only had about 5 days to order, get the materials from Lindab and

install everything before the studio cameras started rolling, it was pretty stressful to say the least. But it all ran smoothly, even though MasterChef Studios made continuous adjust-ments along the way.”

“We’re responsible for the entire ventilation instal-lation at MAX IV and are currently in the final phase for the storage ring buildings (A and D) and the office building (E),” says Peter Blomgren, lead fitter at Imtech. “The whole duct system in the large storage ring, building A, has been mounted and is now await-ing adjustment. There is a lot of Lindab Safe in the extensive ventilation system which has been dimen-sioned and prepared for a large number of separate research laboratories and measuring stations.”

“Thanks to our close, long-standing collabora-tion, Lindab was the natural choice as with earlier deliveries,” Blomgren continues. “We’re completely familiar with Lindab’s duct system and are very used to installing it. When Lindab’s diffusers and indoor climate products are appropriate as well, or when they are directly recommended, we obviously choose those too.”

“The relationship with our suppliers is key in all our projects, particularly special solutions like this. We’re also now seeing a rise in demand for visible duct systems, so Imperial Ductwork Services, with Lindab’s systems and support, can present attractive solutions to meet this demand – and the solutions work per-fectly as well,” John Smith concludes with a smile.

INDUSTRIAL LOOK Lindab’s duct system was the right solution with the

right feeling for the MasterChef Studios.

Deliveries to the construction site have been subject to deadlines, i.e. they need to be made at set times. “So far the deliveries have run very smoothly, which has been absolutely essential in a project of this scale. We’re talking about kilometres of 800 mm pipes that have been delivered continuously since 2012. What’s more, we really appreciate Lindab’s service and flexibility. Clear labelling, good documentation and late changes to orders from us, which are sometimes neces-sary – it all runs very well. I’m very happy with Lindab,” Peter Blomgren concludes.

THE NEW HALL for automated cab production currently being built at Scania’s site in Oskarshamn is no small project. Tinsmith Plåtson has fitted blue and white sandwich panels from Lindab for the building’s façades, as well as Lindab LHP 130 per-forated trapeze sheeting on the whole large roof surface. Furthermore, ventilation installer Imtech is installing an extensive Lindab Safe duct system.

“As Scania specified completely silicon-free panels in their special light-blue colour, Lindab’s mineral wool panels were ideal,” says Bill Stures-son, Managing Director at Plåtson. “But as always the product itself is only one part of the delivery: project support is at least as important and we knew that Lindab always delivers in that respect. Our aim was therefore to bring in Lindab to supply the roof and façade solution.”

“The order was proceeded by comprehensive planning and it was very reassuring to have Lind-ab’s support behind us,” explains Marcus Hellens, Project Manager at Plåtson. “As it was our largest job to date, it was vital to have both the logistics and all the construction solutions on track. Happily Scania chose the solution that we and Lindab pre-sented, and we’ve now been working on the order since January. The clearly labelled deliveries and excellent installation drawings provided by Lindab have made our job a lot easier!”

The sandwich panels, delivered in two colours with three different mineral wool densities, were transported from Lindab’s production unit in Luleå

by rail and then by truck. “This very large order really places demands on the internal collaboration between our units for steel delivery, construc-tion, profiles, panels and sales,” says Emma-Lis Briggsjö, who is responsible for the order at Lindab. “I am proud and delighted that everything has gone as quickly and smoothly as I and Plåtson had hoped.”

“We are absolutely delighted to have chosen Lindab as a partner once again,” says Bill Stures-son. “Excellent contacts and fast, reliable answers, along with good drawings and smoothly function-ing deliveries; that sums up this project quite well!”

Major delivery × 2 to Scania

Lindab is delivering its biggest ever order of proprietary sandwich panels to tinsmith Plåtson and Scania’s new hall for bodywork production in Oskarshamn. Furthermore, a complete duct system is being fitted for the ventilation installer Imtech in the 32,000 m2 building.

In addition to the factory deliveries of sandwich panelling, Lindab Kalmar has also delivered the Lindab Rainline rainwater system and sheet metal on rolls for fittings, for example.

The large, completely open hall will be filled with heat-generating production and automation equipment, something that places demands on effective ventilation.

“The duct system we’re currently fitting is also dimen-sioned accordingly and is one of the largest installations I’ve been involved in,” says Eije Ottosson, lead fitter at Imtech. “It’s nice to know that my fitters and I are working with Lindab Safe. I’ve been installing ducts since 1975 and one thing is clear: nothing can beat Lindab’s products, it’s a superb, complete duct system!”

THE SHINY NEW Submarine Hall stands next to the main building of Karlskrona Naval Museum,

reminiscent of a battleship in stealth mode. The Submarine Hall is certainly a different museum building, and the contents are just as different: Sweden’s first submarine, Hajen, along with the HMS Neptun, a high-tech spearhead from the Cold War era, which was around when the Soviet submarine U137 ran aground in the Karlskrona archipelago.

The building was designed by Björn Malmström of HMXW Architects, and is actually inspired by the Swedish Navy’s Visby class stealth corvettes and their anti-radar technology. Apart from the Vasa warship in Stockholm, the HMS Neptun is the biggest built-in museum exhibit in Sweden. Except for a few stone-paved areas, the building is entirely clad in standing seam stainless sheet supplied by Lindab Kalmar, and also boasts a sophisticated ventilation system from Lindab Ronneby.

“All the standing seam roofing is stainless sheet metal, acid proof 05, which is both a unique and an exclusive façade mate-rial, at least on this scale,” says Johan Hansson, Managing Direc-tor of Drags Plåt, a long-standing customer of Lindab Kalmar and the company responsible for all the sheet metal work. “The material was not only chosen for its aesthetic appeal, it also requires minimal maintenance. The originally recommended steel grade was not feasible, but Lindab was able to present a solution of totally equal quality.”

Today 12 tonnes and 3,000 m2 of stainless sheet metal cover virtually all of the exterior surfaces, and with its eclectic and exciting appearance the building is something of a swatch-book of different standing seam techniques. “Stainless sheet metal entails extreme thermal movements, and we have used both double seaming and seam welding,” Hansson continues. “The results were excellent, an opinion shared by us, the architect, the museum and the National Property Board.”

Museums, with their unique exhibits, generally place stringent demands on their indoor climate. “And the Naval Museum was no exception,” explains Stefan Carlsson of Ventilationsteknik i Blekinge, which was responsible for the ventilation installation. “They needed advanced systems for both humidifying and de-humidifying, and of course for heating and cooling.”

Much of the duct system is cast into the concrete structure, and the most visible parts are the ACP fabric diffusers which can be seen above the Hajen and Neptun. There is also stainless Lindab Safe mounted in the fan room. “We buy all our ventilation

Lindab – the logical choiceDELONGHI IS A well-known Ital-ian manu facturer of everything from

espresso machines and deep fat fryers to portable air humidifiers and fans for homes and offices. In 2013 the company entered the Romanian market when it took over a production unit in the city of Jacu from Finn-ish company Nokia. The plant has recently been expanded with a brand new 6,000 m2 factory building. Lindab supplied a complete indoor climate system via its customer Grup Ergoinstal, one of Romania’s leading installers of indoor climate systems.

The plant was designed by he Engineer-ing office Dico si Tiganas. “Choosing Lindab gave us access to a complete product pro-gramme for high-quality indoor climate solu-tions, both in terms of function and aesthet-ics,” says Lucian Chiorean at Dico si Tiganas. “We could also use Lindab’s support and their smart CADvent and DIMcomfort IT solu-tions for duct design and climate simulation respectively, which was a great success!”

Grup Ergoinstal has now installed a comprehensive indoor climate system in the new factory building. The system includes 72 Lindab RCWB-3 rotation diffusers with thermal control, and a complete Lindab Safe duct system in dimensions up to 1,250 mm with around 400 duct parts.

“We have been a partner of Lindab for more than 10 years. Our long-standing collaboration has led to a strong, deeper relationship and has enabled us to offer our customers many great benefits,” says Dan Ciubancan of Grup Ergoinstal. “The highest product quality and energy-efficient systems

with the best tightness class, coupled with fast installation times and exceptional cus-tomer support.”

The DeLonghi project was a complex installation where the end customer set very high standards regarding quality, energy ef-ficiency, function and aesthetics.

“Thanks to our long collaboration, we knew that Lindab was the right partner and the logical choice for this project. Lindab has also quite rightly provided ongoing techni-cal support throughout the project period. Together with their customary flexibility and reliable deliveries, they have made it possible to deliver a system that perfectly matches the requirements of the end customer and consultant,” Dan Ciubancan concludes.

DEMANDS MET Thanks to the collaboration between installer Grup Ergoinstal, consultant Dico si Tiganas and Lindab, DeLonghi’s requirements for the new indoor climate system could be met.

LINDAB HAS JUST delivered two hall buildings to Gilan MMC in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The halls will be used for the cus-

tomer’s production and storage of herbal medicines. The buildings, which are 19,000 m2, in total (45x386 m and 18x90 m) are good examples of Lindab’s flexible Systemline product and have a few special architecture solutions. A slightly arched roof, load-bearing steel columns outside the façade and pro-truding, non load-bearing roof truss components combined with an attractive colour scheme make the buildings stand out from typical hall buildings.

“This is an excellent example of how good collaboration between Gilan MMC, our experienced building partner AIKON and our Building Systems team in Hungary has produced a building that stands out from the crowd and meets all of Gilan MMC’s strict requirements,” says Zoltán Erőss, Lindab.

A PASSIVE HOUSE is an extra well-insulated building without

a conventional heating system. The heating system in Bollnäs Bostäder’s newly built Sundsbro apartment building is based on the efficient recovery of residual heat from the 24 apartments’ lighting, appliances, and of course the people inside the building. All supported by solar panels on the roof.

Bollnäs Bostäder is aiming to achieve Gold environmental building classification, not unreasonable bearing in mind the build-ing’s construction and systems. Lindab has

delivered a complete indoor climate system, roof drainage, roofing profiles and roof safety for the Sundsbro building.

“It’s nice to work with quality products,” says Krister Persson of Bollnäs Plåt, an installation company that has been working with Lindab for several years. “Being able to source ventilation ducts and diffusers, as

well as roof systems and roof drainage from the same supplier can only be a good thing. What’s more, Lindab is always good with deliveries and gives us quick answers to any questions we have.”

The building’s indoor climate system is fitted with heat exchangers as well as supply and exhaust air thanks to Lindab’s SHH diffuser. The diffuser is stylish, with an easily adjustable air flow and low noise level, which is important in a residential environ-ment. “The duct system itself, however, is a conventional Lindab Safe system with class D tightness, but as every apartment has completely separate supply and exhaust air ducts up to the fan room on the seventh floor, there was a lot of duct-drawing to be done,” explains Hans-Olof Hansson of Bollnäs Plåt.

“It’s great to have been a supplier for Norrland’s first passive house,” says Ernst Cardell of Lindab. “It shows that our product systems are well suited to a modern envi-ronmental approach!”

The building was completed in early summer, and the coming winter will ascer-tain whether the Gold environmental build-ing classification can be achieved.

FINDING A PARKING space should ideally be quick and easy. The same basic

idea is behind Astron’s new product concept: the parking deck.

“A short build time coupled with a lightweight steel construction and, of course, the option to fully tailor the solution make parking decks from Astron an attractive alternative,” says Glauco Sala of Rug-gerini Pietro, one of Astron’s partners in Italy. “We have recently built a new multi-storey car park for a famous sports car producer in Maranello. Astron’s solutions, such as the light Inodek floor with built-in joists, are quick to build and offer large widths

without columns. The fact that we could also offer the customer an attractive façade solution that did justice to their symbol was an added bonus.”

Europcar in Kelsterbach, near Frankfurt airport, is another company that needed 300 or so parking spaces – fast. An Astron solution fully adapted to the existing multi-storey could be built in a very short space of time. “Without a doubt our quick, cost-effective solutions for multi-storey car parks are gaining ground,” says Christian Flertmann, Business Unit Manager Germany (Astron).

BGHM IS A GERMAN insurance company for people employed under

collective agreements in the wood and steel industries. Earlier this year the company’s brand new office complex in Mainz, Germany, was completed. The building has a com-pletely customised energy concept based on geothermal heating.

The 17,400 m2 building is equipped with a complete Lindab Safe duct system, as well as 750 or so WB1 plenum boxes with D24 grilles and around 150 m of MTL slot diffusers installed by Lindab’s customer, Jacob Ebling GmbH of Nierstein.

Heating takes place through 30 wells, each 250 m deep, which have been drilled into the bedrock. Together with intelligent material and equipment choices this creates a distinctly green, energy-efficient building.

TECHNICAL UNIVERSITIES and col-leges, as the name suggests, have

their finger on the pulse of technology. So when Riga Technical University (RTU) chose an indoor climate system from Lindab for the extensive renovation of its Faculty of Material Science and Applied Chemistry, you could say it’s a feather in Lindab’s cap. Profession-als choose professional systems.

The deliveries encompass both the duct system and silencers, as well as PKA perfo-

rated diffusers and NS19 diffusers. “We have been working with Lindab for a long time,” says Oskars Pudulis, project manager at installation company Lafivents, “and Lindab’s total package of first-class products, good technical support and rapid responses, as well as reliable deliveries, were certainly major factors in why we chose Lindab again. A good balance between Lindab’s offering and price level is the most important explanation behind our successful collaboration. It’s easy to recommend Lindab!”

The complete renovation project at RTU encompasses various faculties and has a budget of around MEUR 30. All the installa-tions and renovation work are expected to be complete during the autumn.

NEVER CHANGE a winning team is a good motto. One that’s equally

true in business as in sport. Roman Costa is President of the steel construc-tion company Costa VOC, which has just completed its fourth major project with Lindab as a partner. “Now that we have worked with Lindab and their professional team once again, it is clear that the Lindab Group’s broad experience and 20 years of local presence here in Roma-nia is a winning combination for us.”

Costa VOC’s latest hall project is a pro-duction unit for Optimedia, one of Roma-

nia’s leading manufacturers of windows and doors made of PVC and

aluminium. Lindab’s delivery to the construction site in Oradea, north-west Ro-mania comprises the steel structure, C and Z profiles, as well as locally produced

Coverline trapeze sheeting for the 6,100 m2 building.

“Once again we have benefitted from

Lindab’s experience, expertise and reliable deliveries,” says Roman Costa, adding: “But best of all, they always have a solu-tion and handle any difficulties with style. Lindab is quite simply outstanding when it comes to any project that goes beyond the ordinary – and there are a lot of them. They truly simplify our construction and our day-to-day business, and I can only congratu-late myself on choosing Lindab yet again!”

Big Marine orderOASIS IS THE NAME of the new cruise ship being built in St. Nazaire,

France for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. When it is launched in 2016 it will be the world’s biggest cruise liner, a giant of the seas at 363 metres long and with room for 8,000 passengers. Lindab has been cho-sen to supply the vessel’s silencer system for the ventilation.

Shipbuilding group STX Europe, one of the European leaders in the area, has already used Lindab’s duct systems in two projects for RCCL in Finland. “Lindab was chosen as the supplier then too, and their positive experience undoubtedly helped

them to choose our solutions once again,” says Pascal Gelugne of Lindab. “The fact that we also have a strong presence in France, as well as an excellent collabora-tion with our colleagues at Lindab Marine in Finland, was of course also a factor, and we’re delighted to have our first marine order here!”

The systems are being installed by Cofely Axima, a company with long experi-ence of marine and other installations on various cruise liners. Space for ventilation is always limited but on ships, and this kind in particular, the aim is to maximise the

volume in cabins and all other passenger spaces.

“Our marine silencer solutions are char-acterised by space-saving design and low weight,” Gelugne explains, “and they also allow a very low noise level. Altogether this meant a perfect, quiet ventilation solution for STX Europe and Cofely Axima.” Pleas-ure awaits aboard the Oasis!
