A note from the Editor, Chris Myers – [email protected] At last the A158 through the village will have some resurfacing works carried out on it – The planned road closure (overnight) start date for this is Wednesday 21

st March - this will obviously cause

some disruption – but the work is well overdue so please bear with it. Wanted – do you have any pretty cups and saucers in your cupboards, no longer required – even odd ones without a ‘friend’ can be just as appealing. Jackie Scott is looking for some for the Afternoon Tea on 31

st March, if you want them to be put to good

use please give Jackie a ring on 01522 754225 and she will be pleased to collect them. The copy deadline date for the April issue of the Langworth Local is 16

th March.

PARISH EMERGENCY PLAN - As part of the parish emergency plan we are asked to make provision for vulnerable people. The problem is to decide who is a vulnerable person. A request last year in the Langworth Local for names of vulnerable people resulted in no response so we have decided to do it this way. In the time of severe weather, which may be snow or flood, if you need help or you are a Carer looking after someone who may need help, call Chris king 01522 750423 who will arrange for someone to call on you or the person you are Carer for. Clive Buttress, Flood/Snow Warden

Report of February’s Parish Council meeting - The Chairman opened the meeting by paying tributes to three recently deceased residents of the parish – Peter Waite, Roy Addison and Dorothy Kimber. Langworth Senior Citizens Christmas Lunch – A request had been made to the Parish Council to form a Committee to take over the running of the Senior Citizens Christmas Lunch. An acknowledgement and thanks were made to Dave Freeman and his helpers who have organised this previously. Chris King and Sheila Burnett offered to take on the organisation of the lunch so that it can continue for many more years. Snow clearance/gritting – During the recent period of bad weather some snow clearing and gritting took place using the equipment purchased. With the few volunteers that have come forward only limited clearance could be achieved. More help is needed when conditions are bad!! If you are able to help out during severe weather contact Clive Buttress at Brook House, Scothern Lane. Extension of Speed Limit – Barlings Lane – The County Council Highways have rejected the request for the extension of the speed limit to extend approximately 12 metres past the last cottage on Barlings Lane. A further letter has been sent and a reply awaited. If residents wish to add weight to the request of the Parish Council, please write to Mr A Brown, Principal Highways Officer, Lincolnshire County Council, City Hall, Lincoln. Newball Toilets – Following the closure of the toilets in the layby some time ago, the County Council have decided not to reopen them. They state that in due course steps will be taken to demolish the facility. The next meeting of the Parish Council will be the 6th March 2012 - 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall.

The Annual Parish Meeting of Langworth will be held on Tuesday 3rd April.

It is not a Parish Council meeting. It is a gathering to reflect on what has gone on in the village during the past year; local organisations can give a report of what they have done. Please come along to the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm. The Parish Council meeting will follow at 8.00pm.

Scothern Baby & Toddler Group

We are a small, very friendly group of parents and carers with children of all ages who meet every Wednesday for a coffee and a

chat while the children have fun playing and socialising. The group has been running in Scothern for over 28 years and has been a valuable part of the local community over that time but with dwindling numbers attending we are in danger of the group closing. We welcome all parents, carers, grandparents, mums to be, even mums with school age children. It’s a chance to meet up with friends to catch up on the gossip over a coffee and a choccie biscuit and it’s cheaper than Starbucks! We meet at Scothern Methodist Chapel, Main Street, Scothern Every Wednesday (school term time only) 10.00 am -11.45 am £1.50 per family For further details please contact Bev Bell 01673 863157
