St Aidan’s Catholic Primary School

The Year 2/3 performance of Shrek was undoubtedly the highlight of the week but it was a busy week all around the school, with the swimming gala also giving many of our pupils an opportunity to let their light shine! Next week we have the Young Voices concert at the O2 on Monday and our Year 4 class assembly on Friday (9.15am). All Yr 4 parents are invited to attend.

Swimming Gala On the 31st January, a talented group of swimmers from Year 4-6 went to Purley pool to compete in a swimming

gala against a large number of other schools. We all tried really well and look forward to finding out how we did

once the results have been calculated. On the way home, a bus driver told us that we were the most polite children that she had ever had on the bus, which made us and our teachers very proud. Thanks to

Miss Whitmarsh and Mrs Cecil for taking us. Report by: Carlotta (Yr 6)

Year 2/3 Production

Year 2 and 3 treated us to a wonderful production of Shrek this week, putting on 3 performances for parents and fellow

pupils. The children looked and sounded amazing, performing a dozen or so songs as part of a top class performance. There

were a huge number of lines and stage directions to be learned but the children performed like experienced

thespians throughout. A really big thank you to all of the members of staff who put

hours and hours of effort into preparing the children, the costumes and the stage.

Communication Regarding Adverse Weather A follow up reminder regarding the letter that was sent earlier this week about communication when snow or other adverse weather is forecast. Should closure be necessary, we will keep

you informed in the following ways:

Lego Creators Club Ewan, Aaron H, Jacob, James C and Lizzie from our Lego club have

been working on a Moon Base project. They will be presenting their project at a Lego Expo in Croydon later this year. Thanks to

Mrs McClintock for volunteering to organise the group.

500 Words Competition It’s that time of Year again where the BBC Radio 2 500 Words

story writing competition has been launched. Children write best when it’s for a real purpose so this is a great opportunity to get

your child excited about writing. More details about the competition can be found at

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/28zgDX98FnDYbN9j1jbk4HS/500-words-2019

The school will not be able to submit entries on behalf of children. However, we would still love to celebrate our pupils’

writing talent so please encourage them to hand a copy of their story to their teacher once they have submitted it and we will hold a school competition, where the best entries in each Key

Stage will receive a prize.

Achievement Well done to Elizabeth in Year 5 for her drama and piano

certificates, to Isabelle in Yr 1 for her mathletics silver awards, and to Aine (Yr1), Erin (Yr 5) and Emily K (Yr 4) for their various

swimming qualifications.

Twitter Feed Our Twitter feed now has almost 200 followers! It’s a great

window into the school, where you can see what some of the classes have been up to during the week and what extra-

curricular activities we have been partaking in. If you haven’t done so already, you might consider signing up to follow us.

Frobacks – The Greatest Dancer Congratulations to Mr Ryan Nembhard (dad of Roman in Reception) and his group ‘Frobacks’, who have made it

through to the live finals of The Greatest Dancer on BBC1. You can register to vote on the program’s homepage on the BBC

site. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06tvw90 Best of luck Mr Nembhard, St Aidan’s are supporting you!
