As Christians every Sunday gathering to

worship is a reminder and celebration

that Jesus Christ is Risen—Halleluiah!

When we confess our faith using the

Apostles’ Creed we declare that after

Jesus died and was buried, “The third

day he rose again from the dead.” He

rose the day after the Sabbath (the sev-

enth day of the week, Saturday), Jesus

rose on the first day of the week (see

Mt. 28:1). So every Sunday should be

an Easter celebration!

Without the resurrection there

would be no good news, no Gospel. In

fact, as Paul Beasley-Murray points out

in The Message of the Resurrection, “The

very existence of the Gospels is a wit-

ness to the resurrection of Jesus. The

Gospels are ‘good news’ only in so far

as the Jesus of whom they speak is the

risen Lord. Had the story of Jesus ended

with the cross, there would have been no

gospel—nor would there have been four

Gospels.” (p. 20)

The Apostle Paul proclaimed

Christ around the Roman world faithfully,

and wrote to the Corinthian church “we

preach Christ crucified” (1 Cor. 1:23).

But the message of the cross includes the

wondrous truth of the resurrection as Paul

demonstrates in Athens where he stirred

up the crowds and Luke records their dis-

pute and says, “They said this because

Paul was preaching the good news

about Jesus and the resurrection” (Acts

17:18).

Jesus Christ, who died for our

sins, is now alive forevermore! This

should excite us because our Savior con-

tinues His redemptive work in heaven.

He is NOT passively watching what hap-

pens down here, unaware and uninter-

ested and unable to do anything! The

Westminster Shorter Catechism in Modern

English states: “As our redeemer, Christ

is a prophet, priest, and king in both His

humiliation [his birth, life, death and bur-

ial] and His exaltation [his resurrection,

ascension, being seated at God’s right

hand, and his return]” (Q. 23). Our Lord

lives! Job looked forward and we look

back and we both exclaim, “I know that

my Redeemer lives” (Job 19:25)!

That the Lord lives mattered a

great deal to the prophets of the Old

Testament and should matter just as much

to us today. Jeremiah contrasts the living

God to dead and worthless idols (Jer.

10:1-16) and Isaiah does the same thing

(Isa. 44:6-23). Peter’s profound confes-

sion of who Jesus is, includes a reference

to the One, True God that we mustn’t

forget: “You are the Christ, the Son of

the living God” (Mt. 16:16). Jesus Christ

the Trinity, and He Lives! All the idols of our world today are just as dead as the wooden or golden statues in

Jeremiah’s and Isaiah’s day. The LORD, the true God, the living God, the eternal King (Jer. 10:10) is powerfully

at work redeeming His people. Jesus Christ, our Risen Savior is pouring out His Spirit, interceding for His peo-

ple, and reigning from heaven. One day He will return to judge all people and will we will be with Him for-

ever in the new heavens and new earth. Are you eagerly anticipating and watching for that day? Are you as

eager for it as you are for springtime to finally arrive? Stir up your hearts in watchfulness and anticipation by

gathering with us every Sunday to celebrate and worship our Living Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Have a blessed Easter,

Pastor David

many meals as you can attend. Signup sheets for anyone who would like to provide soup, salad, bread or

sandwiches for these services are also in the narthex. Extra copies of last week’s bulletin insert about the mean-

ing of Lent with more details about LRPC’s Lenten meals are available in the narthex.

Praise and Prayer 1." We thank God for opening a new door of opportunity, at the Staff Training College of one of the leading nation-wide bank in the country. On Feb. 13, and 17, Jonah was in-vited to speak at their College training pro-gram. The Branch Manager, General Man-ager, Assist Vice Presidents were in training. This was a real big event and great opportu-nity to speak to the senior staff there. I must confess I was a bit nervous and was not will-ing to speak. The subject was "decision mak-ing. We thank God for giving courage and words to speak to this group. The Lord is an-swering your prayers. Please pray for good relationships to develop for future contact." 2." Please remember April 13, we are inviting new people to come and hear His Word. We will appreciate your prayers for Jonah as he opens His Word with people. We are hoping to have 150 to 200 people come and join us." 3. "With the help of another ministry in the city, we are planning to have three days teaching/training program for key leaders and pastors from different church backgrounds. If all goes well, it will take place on April 6th, 7th and 8th. From 9:00 - 5:00 p.m. We will be teaching on CP [church planting] work among unengaged people in our city of 23.5 million people. Please pray that we will find 50 key Pastors who will be willing to come and learn the importance of reaching out to the lost in the city. Fear is one of the main enemy for CP

work [ed.- among this religious group]. Pray for the Holy Spirit to guide us and give us wis-dom to organize this event. We hope to meet with such key leaders on a quarterly basis for follow up. There is an ongoing prayer group in the city praying for this three day training program. Please join us in prayers for a profit-able time of learning from His Word. Pray that not only will we know the Truth of the gospel and principle of Christian life and who we are in Christ, with great unlimited re-sources that we have in Christ but will claim and live in the full power of the Lord." 4. The law & order situation is really getting bad to worse in our city it seems. Last week, one of the Fellowship members motorbike was stolen during our weekly meeting. This is the third motorbike that was stolen from our people while they were in the meeting. Some other members cell phones are taken away at gun point along with cash from them. We are now thinking of hiring a watchman but it is still not going to help because such groups are sup-ported by the local police and other powerful people. Our people are quite concerned and are discouraged. Please pray for the Lord's pro-tection." 5. "Please pray as we put His vision that He has given to us in action and that He will guide us and remove all obstacles from our way."

MISSION POSSIBLE April, 2014

Jonah & Jennifer of Nineveh

In an email dated April 5, 2014, Jonah sent an update on how things are going now that they are back on the field. He reports, "We are glad to let you know that things at our apartment are begin-ning to look a little better. [water tank rupture during their extended stay in the US caused dam-age.] Normal daily activities are in high swing. Jennifer seems to be coping with all the excitement of people coming although she still feels weak and tires easily. [recovering from two heart attacks] Good traffic of people started coming back to our home and many hot cups of tea are being pre-pared, which is an important part of outreach here."

If you are a member or regular attendee of LRPC and didn’t see your name on any of these lists, please let the

Church Office know.

National Day of Prayer, Thursday May 1st.

Our church will be open for prayer on Thursday, May 1st for anyone who would like to pray for our nation,

community and church. Individuals, families or even small groups are invited to join in this national one day

event seeking the Lord’s healing and renewing power while giving thanks for the blessings we have received

from Him. More details will be available soon on our church website and in the church bulletin, so please keep

watch.

Third Sunday Book Discussion Group

Because Easter and Mother’s Day fall on Third Sundays this year, we will not have a book discussion in April or

May. We hope to resume the Third Sunday discussions in the fall.

9

Trustees’ Toolbox

The Trustees met on Monday, March 10th at 7:00pm to discuss the following items:

The updated lighting system around the church was completed; but two of the three projectors were misaligned when bumped when church chandelier lights were checked. The Facilities Solution Group will make the ad-

justments.

Artificial plants were placed in front of the stage; a plus because we do not have to water them, but they will

promote people to use the side staircases.

The 100 sets of ‘off white’ kitchen dishes; which the church has had for over 25 years and which are no longer

used, will be donated or sold. If you know of a good home, please let a Trustee know.

Our member’s cars will no longer have to dodge the driveway pothole due to Curt Soukup filling the hole.

Heat can be our friend in the winter, but please remember to let a Trustee or trained church member to adjust

the temperature in the church or church house.

If you need your heart jumped, the AED in the kitchen has been updated.

No we didn’t move the church, but if you see a new sign that says “You Are Now Entering the Mission Field”, it’s

a reminder of our commission as believers to spread the salvation message to people we meet and know.

Dirty shoes….we got outside rugs for the church to clean your shoes off before you enter the building.

Love Mulch – We Need You!

On April 12th from 9am to 1pm it will be “Spring Clean Up Day”.

We will need volunteers who love racking and spreading mulch to ‘prettify’ our gardens. Lunch will be pro-

vided.

Please sign up in the church narthex.

In the Lord’s service,

Tim Freeman

Time for our AnnualAnnualAnnual Spring CleanSpring CleanSpring Clean---upupup!

Join us on Saturday, April 12st when we spruce up the grounds around our

The following message comes from a recent ACTC email:

“At our last General Board Meeting there was a dis-

cussion about trying to get more fresh foods to our cli-

ents and someone at the meeting suggested that many

people garden and have surplus produce that they

would like to give away. I mentioned that there was

an organized movement to do just that and that I

would pass on the information. I am sending two at-

tachments that will inform you about the West Towson

Food Pool. The organizer, Peter Doo, has set up this

model so that neighborhoods in other areas can do

something similar. He has been able to get a donation

of free Seeds from the Meyer Seed Company and

would like to offer them to Churches that sponsor a

community garden or to members of our churches who

might be able to commit to contributing a minimum of 8

lbs of produce to ACTC over the summer months. This

is a great way to make your garden not only a bless-

ing to you but to others in your community.

We will have this information on our website for your

convenience. You can spread the word in your

neighborhoods and expand this program even fur-

ther.

I hope this information will inspire you to grow a gar-

den this summer!

Director of ACTC

Food Pools

FoodPools are groups of home gardeners who pool

their excess harvest to donate to food pantries. Any-

one with a home garden has experienced that moment

during the season when the produce matures faster

that you can consume it. You may think that a tomato

or two is not worth taking to your local food pantry.

But, if you and several of your neighbors each have a

few extra, you can deliver a dozen or more several

times a month! By “pooling” your excess produce to-

gether, you create a FoodPool.

True Discipleship

“To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you

will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

(John 8:31-32 NIV)

One may come to a mental acceptance of certain facts about god and deceive himself into thinking he believes

on Christ, but the genuineness of that faith needs to be tested before it is judged as real. “You believe that

there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that – and shudder.” (James 2:19-20 NIV). Works, of course,

do not save one’s soul, but the faith that does save is a faith that produces good works.

An earlier group of listeners had also “believed in His name, when they saw the miracles which He did. But Je-

sus did not commit Himself unto them [literally, ‘did not believe on them’], because He knew all men” (John 2:23-

24 KJV). It is essential that we believe on Him, but even more essential that He believe on us!

The test is simple! If we continue in His Word, then we are real disciples. Our dedication to Christ is measured

by our obedience to His Word. If we question His Word, or resent His Word, or try to avoid obeying His

Word, by “interpreting” some preferred meaning of our own into His word, then we urgently need to examine

the genuineness of our belief in Christ.

If we are His disciples and do continue in His Word, then He makes us a wonderful promise: “You shall know the

truth.” Literally, this is “come to know the truth.” As true disciples (that is, “learners”), we have His assurance

that our continuing studies in His Word will yield an ever-increasing comprehension of god’s created and re-

vealed “truth,” with ever-growing freedom to understand and obey the perfect will of God.

A Brief History of the Easter Lily

Easter Lilies are native to the Ryukyu Islands of southern

Japan. The bulbs were brought to the US in the late

1800’s. Today, 95% of all Easter Lily bulbs in the world

are produced in the US; they are the fourth largest

wholesale crop produced in the US.

The significance of Easter Lilies as a Christian symbol can

be traced back to a legend that when Adam and Eve

were expelled from the Garden of Eden, Eve wept.

Wherever her tears fell to the ground, white lilies sprang

up as a sign of God’s promise of redemption.
