We’re alive and kickin’I am reminded of the

famous quote, “The re-ports of my death have

been greatly exaggerated.” In this case, it is the report of the condition of your Gahanna Moose Lodge. To set the record straight, we are open and we are here to stay! Yes, there have been challenges, but we faced them and are mov-ing forward.

Like many other fraternal organiza-tions, membership

has dropped. We need to step up our efforts to let people know about the Moose. Let your friends know about Mooseheart and Moose-haven. Tell them about the charitable contributions we make. All of our events are to raise money for a good cause and to have a good time doing it. Pass the word around.

The drop in member-ship means a drop in revenue, which

has forced us to try to be more effi cient. Maybe we need to change our website. Is there a bet-ter deal somewhere for printing the newsletter? Do we really need to mail newsletters when so many people can access it on their phones or tablets? (You can help by giv-ing your email address to the bar steward on duty.) We can’t move like other lodges have done, but we can certainly spruce up what we have. Check out

the kids’ room. The writ-ing is on the wall, literally. I never knew there was such a thing as chalkboard paint. It’s so cool!

It’s a new day for your Lodge! There is a new panel of of-

fi cers guiding the new administrator to give you a successful “home away from home.” Some of the bar stewards have decided to move on and a couple are staying. Obvi-ously some new ones will be coming, so welcome them. There will be tail-gating parties, great meals and a lot of fun. Don’t forget to bring friends with you so they can have fun, too.

Fraternally yours,

E

WOTM meet the fi rst and third

Wednesdays of the month at 6 PM.

Here we are going into fall, and it doesn’t even feel

like we had a summer. We do have some exciting things in the works so be sure to keep your eyes and ears open.

For October, we are planning a Hal-loween party. It

will be on the 31st -- ac-tual Halloween night! That will be fun.All those who

attended last year know exactly how much fun we had.We will be having a pot-luck dinner that night. We will put a sign up sheet at

the bar. We will also have a tarot-card reader and that signup sheet also will be at the bar. So make sure you start looking for your costumes. There will be a contest, although last year’s winner will be hard to beat.

On another positive note, a lot of work is being done to

freshen up the look of our lodge. I would like to

thank everyone who has helped out. Your hard work is being no-ticed and appreciated. Thank you.

As always, we need your help and ideas,

so please come to a meeting and let us hear your ideas.

Fraternally,

Tammi

Lodge’s future is up to us“I love this bar, it’s

my kind of place, just walkin’

through the front door put a smile on my face. It ain’t too far, come as you are….Hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm, I love this bar.” --Toby Keith

Ever walk into a place and feel like all your problems

of the day just melt away? Well, that’s the feeling I get when I walk into the Moose quarters. I’m al-ways greeted with a smile and a friendly “Paulie!” You are truly among friends and your “frater-nal family” at Gahanna Moose 2463.

So when I hear the rumors and gossip about my “family”

and Lodge, it makes me upset and a bit angry. We know we have an issue to

address, and we all know it didn’t happen overnight. The 800-pound gorilla in the corner that was ig-nored will be tamed, but it will take time. We are not closing up shop, but we do need help. We need to pull together. We need to be committed to solving the problem and not placing blame. What has hap-pened in the past is exact-ly that: the past. The fu-ture of this Lodge depends on all of us. Show up to meetings and support your committee events.

Your Moose Le-gion meals: Oct. 2 brings us every-

one’s favorite: wings ‘n’ rings. On the 16th, it’s the fi sh-fry basket, along with Beer Slide! On Nov. 6, we will be having bacon grilled-cheese sandwiches and fries. Nov. 20 is spaghetti with Italian sausages. That night, Teddy the Wonder Moose and I will be hosting your favorite game, Bar Bingo -- and yes, I’ll bring my glasses this time.

Thanks again for your support, and I look for-ward to seeing all your smiling faces.

Paulie

New & Notable Support our Sun-

shine Girls. Be sure to watch for our annual Angel Tree, which will be up in mid-November. Remember, all you need to do is take a tag, purchase the item and return it to the bar steward unwrapped by Dec. 12. This ensures that gifts will be deliv-ered before Christmas. Help put a smile on the face of our girls.

Thanks to the broth-ers and sisters who have been cleaning the Lodge and who took

part in painting it on Sunday, Sept. 20!

The Moose Legion Silent Auction begins Friday, Nov. 20 and ends Dec. 16. Bring your treasures to donate. Then fi nd new ones!

In June, the Heart of Community Com-mittee delivered

$100 worth of personal supplies to the Gahanna Residents in Need pantry.

On Aug. 1, we sponsored a Gahanna Spe-

cial Olympics event, featuring solo performer Charlie Tatman. We took a team approach to a lip-sync contest, and everyone was a winner! We were able to donate $400 to this organiza-

tion, which will use that money locally. We even gained a Moose member-ship out of this event: Please welcome Angel and her son, John.

For our dinner on Oct. 3, if you donate a towel

and washcloth, you get $1 off your meal. These supplies will go to Faith Mission, which runs a homeless shelter and feeds the poor. And to remember our veterans in November,

the Heart of Com-munity Commit-tee will sponsor a “Dog Tag Din-ner” on Satur-day, Nov. 7: All veterans eat for free if they show their dog tags or military ID. We will be auctioning off a red-white-and-blue homemade lap quilt, as well.

Community service can’t function without the giv-

ing hearts of our lodge members, so thank you.

Fraternally,Mel Shuman and

Juli Critser
