Attention parents and carers: Changes to School Uniform Policy and associated guidelines The NSW Department of Education has revised the School Uniform Policy and associated guidelines following an extensive review and consultation process, including with the NSW Parents and Citizens Association. The revised School Uniform Policy requirements include that:

all students have the opportunity to access the full range of school activities, including physical activities while wearing a school uniform

girls must have the option to wear shorts and pants

consideration is given to cost and how to assist families, including for schools to inform parents how they can access financial support to purchase school uniform items.

The revised School Uniform Policy and associated guidelines can be found at the link: School Uniform Policy.

Where changes are required to a school’s uniform, there must be formal consultation with students, teachers and

other staff, parents or carers, and the school community (including the Parents and Citizens' Association). Parents

and carers should be given up to 3 years to comply with any changes.

Optional Information:

Our school expects students to wear their uniform during school hours, while travelling to and from school and when engaged in school activities out of school hours. The P&C will be reviewing the revised School Uniform Policy and associated guidelines at the P&C meeting on 14th August. We hope that you can attend the P&C meeting to support our school in ensuring we meet the requirements of the revised School Uniform Policy. When all students wear our school uniform their personal safety is enhanced and a sense of belonging to our school community is created. A positive school identity is also promoted in our local community. For queries contact Mowbray Public School Office on 9428 3200

Extreme Dance Challenge - Eisteddfod season has begun for our Mowbray Performance

Ensembles. On Sunday 29th July they participated in their first Eisteddfod for the year at Extreme

Dance at Shore School. Our groups did a spectacular job performing on stage in front of a large

audience demonstrating their hard work from their weekly dance rehearsals. Our Junior

Performance Ensemble and Boys Hip Hop Ensemble both received Highly Commended awards

and our Senior Performance Ensemble captivated the audience with their unique dance and

enthusiasm. Well done to all performers and we look forward to the season ahead.

Brigette Morrow, Kirsty Holmes, Sam Newman and Sean McElhenny

Students published in The Village Observer

At the end of the narrative writing program, each student in class 6F selected

the best paragraph from their edited story, then made it exactly 100 words.

Each written piece was submitted to The Village Observer (see entries on the

next page). The editor published nine students in the July issue. The

competition was an excellent way to demonstrate that writing has a purpose,

editing needs to be done with effort and the process of writing can be celebrated. Well done:

Nicholas R, Daniel WD, Douglas C, Hannah G, Jade K, Jenny H, Kota T, Angel Z and Yaj KB!

Sydney Eisteddfod - Congratulations to our three dance groups on their brilliant performances

at The Sydney Opera House this past Sunday. The Junior Performance ensemble performed their

fantastic “Toy Box” dance, the Boys Hip Hop group performed their wonderful “Tron” dance and

the Senior Dance group performed their spectacular “Fire and Ice”. It was a fantastic day had by

all!

All three groups worked really hard for the lead up to this special performance, and although we

didn’t place, everyone had smiles on their faces all day - especially the proud teachers. The

students behaved extremely well and did Mowbray Public School proud. Many thanks to our

enthusiastic and talented group of teachers for their continued hard work with their dance groups.

LIBRARY NEWS

Our annual library book fair, on Open Day, was a great success thanks to our awesome community! It was wonderful to see so many families visiting the library. A big thank-you to all the generous book donations. The funds raised will be put towards more books and library resources.

We will be making the specially labelled stickers with your child’s name shortly, which are inserted in the front of their donated book. Once this is completed, your child will be the first to borrow the book.

The smooth running of this day would not have been possible if it were not for our AMAZING team of helpers. A special thank-you to Sheyne L and Jenny D. Thank-you to the wonderful parents: Vanessa B, Mami E, Ann G, Jennifer S, Carolyn N, Susannah M, Sarah G, Maureen K, Kate S, Sarah P, Luana S, Mandy S, Yoyo P, Justine N, Tanya N and Alvia B. A special mention to Ting Ting for making the bookmarks that were much sought after!
