Step One: Decide your grant category. There are two types of grant categories; this application is used for both categories.

1. General Grant Applications for Grant Requests of more than $5,000. Board meetings are held quarterly. Applicants can inquire as to the meeting schedule.

2. Smaller Opportunities Grant Applications for Grant Requests for $4,999 or less: These are reviewed on a revolving basis.

Complete and submit the application by the deadline for the grant category. NOTE: If you have received a previous grant, please attach a letter or other document specifying how the grant awarded was used to achieve the goal specified in your previous application.

Step Two: Notification of Receipt

Applicants will receive an email notification within approximately 1-2 weeks of receipt of the application. If you have not received notification of receipt please contact the Foundation. Those organizations or proposals that do not qualify for consideration will receive a declination email.

Grant Instructions & Application:

Community ApplicationThe Lois & Richard Nicotra Foundation provides support for non-for-profit organizations primarily located in the Borough of Staten Island and aids in the support of higher education for the children and grandchildren of the employees of the Nicotra Group,the Hilton Garden Inn, Staten Island and the Hampton Inn & Suites.

The Found’s review process is a dialogue that does not end with the submission of the application. The process may include a site visit or requests for additional information. Only complete applications are eligible for final review.

The Foundation Board makes grant decisions at Board meetings. Grant decisions are shared promptly.

Step Four: Grant Awards and Agreements

Organizations that are approved for a Foundation General Grant receive a grant award letter. This letter must be signed by the chief executive and returned to the Foundation before a check can be forwarded.

Organizations that are approved for a Smaller Opportunities Grant will receive the grant award in the mail with the letter awarding the grant.

Step Five: Declined Proposals

Organizations not awarded grants can call the Foundation to discuss the reasons as well as proposal or project areas that may need to be strengthened. This can assist the applicant in developing stronger applications.

Step Six: Administration and Reports

Organizations unable to proceed with the activities outlined in the grant agreement must promptly inform the Foundation’s Executive Director. The Foundation may require grant recipients to submit a report upon completion of the grant period. In some cases, an interim report may be required.
