Lana Communities It appears that there are definitely communities built around Lanas work, especially thanks to twitter and myspace. Through both pages, Lana is able to communicate all aspects of her work to her fans, and in turn receive her fans work. For example, on her official myspace page, fans can access original works of music, remixes, other fans, personal and professional photos, videos, upcoming events, and other people she has connected with or have connected to her. Twitter is a perfect place for a community grow and flourish; by simply hashtagging LanaDelRey, fans can make their presence in her community known. Barriers such as location, timing, social statuses, etc dont exist in the twitter world, so anyone at anytime has the potential to connect with Lana and other fans. I believe that these communities are maintained by the hope and trust that Lana herself is actually on the receiving end of these exchanges; knowing Lana will see your tweet or online interaction is reinforcing and motivates fans to continue to live in her online world. Additionally, finding other people with similar thoughts or interests is a socially motivating act as well; the hope that you may make personal relationships with other fans is a distinct possibility with twitter 7. Finding her audience One bonus to the online existence is the ability to be available to everyone and anyone; there are no pre-requisite skills needed to become a fan or follower. That being said, in trying to find her audience, I think Lanas audience has found her. After searching through music sites like last.fm and soundcloud, I was relieved to see that they have done Lana justice in where they have placed her in the music world. In a world driven by social media, a few wrong recommendations on a few sites and Lanas career may have been quite different. Although Lana may have had a few hiccups in finding this audience (a la SNL, see next slide), her music speaks for itself and has a very distinct place in this online musical era. Lana is not commercial or overly radio-friendly, therefore her lack of spectacular pop performances helps to maintain her slightly dreary presence, and I think her fans continue to appreciate that. As I have mentioned before, being a fan of a musical artist is a two-way street. Lana doesnt over-produce herself or push herself on anyone, a trait I think her fans continue to admire. So even though anyone can find Lana and appreciate her art, she continues to prune out the haters and only true fans remain in her circle by remaining true to who she is as an artist. 8. The slip up Perhaps she was trying too hard to find a different audience? Or maybe she really was just too nervous. What is she posting anyways? Lanas posts are unarguably for her music; she posts new information about upcoming cds, songs, remixes etc. She even posts pictures from upcoming videos, or musical experiences. For those lucky enough to benefit, she has also posted detailed information about meet and greet times and locations (ie. She does a good job of promoting herself and her music, through various online presences (myspace, twitter, facebook), however I do not see the subsequent step that Eckerling suggests. Her posts appear almost superficial considering the depth of her music; not mush pushing or critical thinking on the surface of her online accounts. Perhaps she leaves the next level of analysis strictly to her music? One area I would like to see Lana continue to grow is to cite and post what she is currently listening to. If we can get a glimpse of where her music was fostered, I think we would be able to enjoy it on a new level. For now though, I will continue to peruse her photos of herself with extras on her music video sets, read about upcoming songs coming out one by one, and occasionally be intrigued by the ever-so-rare, subliminally though-provoking post that happens just enough that it makes you come back for more (I.e., her post from January 12, 2013, see below). 10.
