One of the blessings, or curses, as they case may be, isto have a huge family that loves to play jokes on others. For young women who start dating these family boys, it canbe intimidating to say the least. This story is a typical example of how brotherly love cansometimes be a detriment. Cary married Darrel MacKeiganwho had 5 brothers in his family. Cary and Darrel took a lotof good natured ribbing during their courtship with thebrothers playing many tricks on them. Finally, the big day came when they were married. Marshal, the oldest MacKeigan brother, was asked to make the toastto the bride. He actually made a very touching speech andthe crowd gave polite applause. Darrell turned around toaccept the compliments and a collective gasp came fromthe crowd. When Cary looked up, there was Darrel with the rearend of his pants torn out and bowing to the crowd. This wasthe typical behaviour of the boys. However, they were veryclose and supportive of each other. When Christmas time rolled around, Cary thought it mightbe a nice gesture to invite the family to a Christmas turkeydinner, the first the couple would have together. Cary outdidherself with the decorations, baking desserts and placematsfor everybody. She took the turkey out to cool and went intothe living room to announce that the meal would be served. The boys had a different idea. Unknown to Cary, whenshe went out to make the dinner announcement, they stuffeda small Cornish game hen into the turkey. As was the traditionin the family, the oldest son would make the first cut for thecarving of the turkey. Darrel stood up and made a smallspeech complimenting Cary on the wonderful meal. Just as he started to carve, he paused and said, “Oh my,what is this?” and pulled out the hidden Cornish game hen.He looked at Cary and said, “Oh Cary, don’t tell me youcooked a pregnant turkey?” Cary burst into tears and rancrying from the table. The boy’s mother was not too impressed and scolded theboys fiercely. She went to the bedroom and finally convincedCary that turkeys were born from eggs and that the boysplayed a mean trick on her. When she came down, the boyswere properly sorry. The meal continued and was a greatsuccess but to this day Cary still remembers the “pregnantturkey” joke each Christmas. It has now become a Christmaslegend and the story is told each year to great laughter.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS NOVEMBER 27TH - 8 PM

Given what just happened inthe federal election, andHalloween here tomorrow Ithought it would be a good timefor some other political horror; In 2013 “The Purge” wasreleased to fanfare, and abjecthorror. In order to cut down oncrime and overcrowding theAmerican governmentsanctioned a 12-hour period, once a year, where every crimeis legal. No Police, no hospitalservices, no punishment. Theend result was economicgrowth-and a society largely freeof homeless, sick andunemployed people as it’s thepoor, the minorities and thedefenseless that were beingkilled, equaling lower welfarepayments, hospital costs andcrime rates. The movie wasbone-chilling, yet fascinating. The rich and the middle-classlocked themselves up for thenight and let the “99%-ers” ripeach other apart. The moviemade well over 150 milliondollars, so obviously a lot ofpeople watched it. The next year“The Purge: Anarchy” wasreleased, offering a storyredemption when a group offreedom fighters (thegovernment calls themterrorists) hacked intogovernment media sources todenounce The Purge, andasked people not to take part inthe violence. As night fell, andthe violence ramped up it wasdiscovered that the foundingfathers sent out mercenaries tojack up the killings-they wantedmore poor folk dead. The movie

ends as the sunrise shed a newlight on the devastation-and theconspiracy by the rich. The thirdrelease in the franchise, “ThePurge-Election Year”, hadperfect timing with the realAmerican election campaign. It’s no longer a secret that thefounding fathers are raking inbillions by eliminating the poor, but senator Charlie Roan, asurvivor of a family massacrethat took place 18 years earlierduring a purge, threatens theirsystem. She wants to eliminatethe purge and restore justice, equality and protection for all.The founding fathers decide toremove a law that preventselected officials from beingkilled on purge night, hoping togain points with the electorate.Their real aim is to kill thesenator, keeping the statusquo. Senator Roan wantsnothing to do with violence, butunbeknownst to her a splintergroup of supporters decide toassassinate the foundingfathers on the purge night. Soit’s game-on for everyone. Themovie has a real surpriseending. The newest release“The First Purge” is a prequelto the first “Purge” movie, showing what started off as asocial science experiment inStaten Island was really apopulation control device.People would receive fivethousand dollars if they stayedin their homes during ThePurge, and if they want to wearcameras to capture anythingoutside they will get moremoney. This fi lm dovetailsperfectly into the subsequentmovies and is, like the otherfi lms, disturbing. So how’sthem scary tales forHalloween? Boo!
