Installing and configuring UvAvpn(Windows 2000, XP and Vista)

In order to use this manual, you must first download the installation file fromwww.ic.uva.nl/uvavpn and log in to your PC as administrator.

1) When you double click on the installation file, the following screen will appear.

Click on next to start the installation.

2) Accept the license agreement and click on next.

3) Select the folder in which you want to place the files or immediately click on

next if you do not wish to select a new folder.

4) Confirm the installation by clicking on next.

5) The virtual network adapter will now be installed automatically. This process

may take up to several minutes on certain systems.

6) Click on finish to complete the installation.

7) Your PC must be restarted after the installation is finished. Click on yes to

close Windows and restart your PC.

Establishing a vpn connection.8) Start the software via: Start->Programs->Cisco systems VPN client->vpnclient.

9) The software has been installed and you can now specify which server to

connect to. Click on new to create a connection entry.

10) Create a connection by entering the following data and click on save:Connection Entry UvA-vpn

Description UvA-vpnHost vpn.uva.nl

Group Authentication (Select Group rather than Certificate)Name ipsecPassword ipsec (Appears as asterisks)Confirm password ipsec (Appears as asterisks)

11) The connection entry has now been registered, and can be activated by

double clicking on the icon.

12) A screen will appear prompting you to enter your user name and password.

Fill in your UvA-net IDand password, and click on OK. Once the connection has

been established, you will be connected to UvA-net.

13) You can now browse the digital library catalogues using your regular browser

(such as Internet Explorer or Firefox).

Terminating the connection.

When you are finished using the VPN connection, you can disconnect from the

network.

1) Right mouse click on the padlock in the bottom right corner of the screen

2) A menu will now appear; click on Disconnect

The VPN connection will now be terminated. The padlock symbol will be open,

indicating that the VPN connection has been terminated.

The CISCO-VPN software will still be active, but you are no longer connected viaVPN.

3) In order to exit the CISCO-VPN software, right mouse click on the open

padlock and select Exit VPN Client in the menu.

De-installing the software.

Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel and select Add/Remove SoftwareSelect VPN Client and click on Change/Remove

The de-installation procedure will now begin.
