The Middle East1) Look at the maps below. Why do you think this

region is called the “Middle East?” (The Middle East is circled in purple)

2) What do you already know about this part of the world?

3) Write a description of the geography in the Middle East. Use 3 facts/details from the maps.

4) Why do most people live in the eastern part of Iraq?

GDPGDP (or Gross Domestic Product) measures the wealth of a country. It is a total of the value of all the goods and services produced in a country.

The darker red countries on the map have the highest GDP (more wealth). The lighter red have the lowest.

9) Name two Middle East countries with a higher GDP and two countries with a lower GDP.

Gender parity = equal education for boys and girls

Disadvantaged = unequal education; someone does not have access to the same kind of services.
