Lenten Mission Holy Week Retreat The Paschal Mystery

As Vital Light and Might

April 15-17 — in the Church presented by Fr. Pio Estepia, SVD

3 days exploring “The Paschal Mystery”. Each Mission Day starts with 8:00am Mass in the Church. The Mission topics are:

• Monday, April 15 • Mass 8:00am • Mission Presentations: 9am & 7pm FAITH AS VIA CRUCIS (Way of the Cross)

• Tuesday, April 16 • Mass 8:00am • Mission Presentations: 9am & 7pm HOPE AS RISUS PASCHALIS (Easter Laughter)

• Wednesday, April 17 • Mass 8:00am • Mission Presentation: 9am (No 7pm) THE SEDER AS ‘EUCHARIST’ (Thanksgiving)

The Paschal Mystery—after every Eucharistic consecration of bread and wine, what we proclaim as the “mystery of faith” is what we most solemnly celebrate during the Holy Week –from Passion Sunday to Easter Sunday.

From Holy Monday to Wednesday, you are most welcome to join our parish community in reflecting anew on the Paschal Mystery:

• What meaningful light (why) can it shed on our journey from womb to tomb?

• And what sustaining might (how) can it give to our “pursuit of happiness”?

“One who has a why to live for,” so affirms a German adage, “can bear with almost any how.”

Congratulations to our Newly Baptized

& Their Families

REFLECTIONS

Cultivate Holy Ground

There are three traditional Lenten practices that help us to cultivate the ground of our lives in order to grow in holiness and bear good fruit: pray-er, which deepens our relationship with God and strengthens our desire to live as followers of Jesus; fasting, through which we heighten our hun-ger for God and become more atten-tive to the hunger and needs of oth-ers; almsgiving: sacrificing time, money, or resources in order to share God’s merciful love with the poor and vulnerable. Cultivate the holy ground of your life through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, so that you may live fruitfully and well.

Mid-Lent Check-In

God says to Moses, “This is what you shall tell the Israelites: I AM sent me to you . . . The LORD, the God of your [ancestors], the God of Abra-ham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob” (Exodus 3:14, 15). As Jesus would later say, God is not a God of the dead, but of the living, and so we believe that the dead will one day rise. At this midpoint of Lent, we pause to consider how our repentance is lead-ing us to the Resurrection, to our reunion with the great “I AM.” Part of our repentance involves working to secure justice for all and helping our neighbor to live in God’s ways. We encourage each other and nurture each other, like the compas-sionate gardener of today’s Gospel, who tells the owner of the orchard that he will nurture the tree, fertilize it, and perhaps it will bear fruit.
