H e’ Ho! In the month of February, Ooskat celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Festival du Voyageur at SNAC, our school’s off-site location. We built a fie and discussed what

it would have been like to be a voyageur. We also discussed how the Métis and First Nation people worked together. We had bannock, a type of fry bread perfected by the Métis, made by one of our young leaders. The bannock was wrapped around hot dogs, which we cooked over the fire, and had poutine as a delicious side dish. Here is our student’s

recipe if you’d like to try it for your next family cookout.

“Que Faire d’Albert?” O n March 6th, we loaded up two

busloads of grade 11 and 12 immer-sion students and headed to the Cer-

cle Moliere to see the production of “Que Faire D’Albert?”. We were fortunate enough to have some time to ask questions to the cast and director. Students left the play ex-cited about the storyline, the characters, and the special effects.

T his month, four students were chosen to attend the Manitoba As-sociation of School Superintendents leadership conference at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. The conference

theme of “Hopeful Conversations” allowed students to learn and discuss topics of equality, diversity, education and re-sources. They learned from the different galleries in the muse-um, invited speakers, and stu-dents from all over Manitoba.

Many of the conversa-tions centered on current student issues, what schools are doing address those issues and what could be done in the future. Many of the issues brought up were mental health needs of students, student engage-ment in schools and re-sources available to students. The four students who attend-ed are excited to engage in hopeful conversations at CSNC and share with leadership stu-dents what they learned.

I t’s the time of year where lots of students are experiencing depression and anxiety. Mindfulness and guided mediation has now been scientifi-cally proven to help. If anyone is struggling they can also come by the

counsellor’s office or e-mail me at [email protected] . The following app is a tool that has been beneficial for students and adults alike: “Stop, Breathe and Think”

This free app focuses on mediation and mindfulness. These strategies can help with stress and anxiety, and it can help you become more mindful, sleep better, and check in with yourself daily. Guided meditation on this app ranges from 1 minute to much longer mediation times. Themes include: taming anxi-ety, sleep better, strengthen focus, slay your stress and more.
