So How Are You Spending Lent THIS Year? Is Lent the same for you every year? Do you “give up” the same thing each year, whether it is chocolate, pop, snack food, or dessert? Maybe you try to do something extra every year like attend daily Mass, pray the rosary or attend Adoration. While each of these things is good, do you give thoughtful prayer to your Lenten sacrifice? Is it just “what I always do for Lent”? Every year the Gospel reading for the first Sunday of Lent tells the story of Jesus being tempted in the desert. Have you ever thought about what tempts you? We all have our weaknesses, and the evil one knows just how to get to us. It is much easier to just do the same thing every Lent than to really think about it. After all, these are good things, right? Could this be a temptation? It all started in the Garden of Eden. The serpent knew just the right words to get Adam and Eve to do what they were asked not to do. They wanted to be as all‐knowledgeable as God, knowing the difference between good and evil. At this point in their lives, all they knew was good! Why would they want to know evil? The serpent made it look attractive. That’s how we fall into the trap. Temptation always looks good, at least for right this moment. In the gospel today Satan tries three times to get Jesus to give in to his tempting. Jesus was able to recognize the temptations and not fall for them. He was able to recognize the momentary satisfaction they would give and look beyond them to what was really important. He saw the temptations for what they were, ways to distract him from his mission. What is Jesus calling us to do this year during Lent? Can we prayerfully ask Him what he wants from us? Are we willing to acknowledge what tempts us from doing something more or different this year? This is just the first Sunday of Lent. We still have plenty of time to really have a good Lent. What would the tempter think about that? How much more joyous would our Easter celebration be? So how will we spend Lent this year? Mrs. Terry Navarro

Entonces, ¿Cómo Estás Pasando Cuaresma ESTE Año? ¿La Cuaresma es igual para ti todos los años? ¿Se "das por vencido" lo mismo cada año, ya sea chocolate, gaseosas, bocadillos o postres? Tal vez intentes hacer algo extra cada año, como asistir a misa diaria, rezar el rosario, o asistir a la adoración. Si bien cada una de estas cosas es buena, ¿das una oración reflexiva a tu sacrificio cuaresmal? ¿Es solo "lo que siempre hago por la Cuaresma"? Cada año, la lectura del Evangelio para el primer domingo de Cuaresma cuenta la historia de Jesús siendo tentado en el desierto. ¿Alguna vez ha pensado en lo que te tienta? Todos tenemos nuestras debilidades, y el maligno sabe cómo llegar a nosotros. Es mucho más fácil hacer lo mismo en cada Cuaresma que pensar realmente en ello. Después de todo, estas son cosas buenas, ¿verdad? ¿Podría ser esto una tentación? Todo comenzó en el Jardín del Edén. Vio las tentaciones de lo que eran, formas de distraerlo de su misión. ¿A qué nos llama Jesús a hacer este año durante la Cuaresma? ¿Podemos preguntarle en oración qué quiere de nosotros? ¿Estamos dispuestos a reconocer lo que nos tienta a hacer algo más o diferente este año? Este es solo el primer domingo de Cuaresma. Todavía tenemos mucho tiempo para realmente tener una buena Cuaresma. ¿Qué pensaría el tentador sobre eso? ¿Cuánto más alegre sería nuestra celebración de Pascua? 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal Pledge Report (2-19-20)

STATIONS OF THE CROSS DURING LENT

As Lent draws near, we are reminded that the Stations of the Cross help Christians make a spiritual pilgrimage to the contemplation of the Passion of Christ. It is a tradition during the Lenten Season to pray the Stations of the Cross in our church. For this reason, we will have booklets available for you to come and pray the stations individually or as a group. Every Friday of Lent after the morning Mass, you will find booklets available in English. Feel free to take one and pray the stations. The Stations will also be prayed in English with our school children every Friday of Lent at 12:30. Everyone is invited to join them in church. Also, every Friday of Lent at 7:00 PM, booklets will be available for those who want to say this prayer in Spanish.

Al acercarse la Cuaresma, se nos recuerda que las Estaciones del Vía Crucis ayudan a los cristianos a hacer una peregrinación espiritual a la contemplación de la Pasión de Cristo.

MARRIAGES: Arrangements should be made at least 4 months in advance (prior to engaging hall) to allow for adequate preparation and instruction. Contact the Rectory for an appointment.

CONVERTS: RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults begins each year in September, reaches its climax with Baptism or reception into the Church at the Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday), and concludes on the fiftieth day of Easter, the feast of Pentecost.

COMMUNION CALLS: Please call the Rectory to arrange for Communion to be brought to the sick.

SICK CALLS: For confession, anointing of the sick or in any emergency, please call the Rectory.

BAUTISMOS: Inglés: 1er y 3er Domingo del mes a la 1:30 PM

Español: 2o Domingo a la 1:30 PM y 4o Sábado a la 11:30 AM

Las pláticas de preparación bautismal son el 1er jueves del mes (español) y el 4o lunes de cada mes (ingles), en la Rectoria. Papás y padrinos deben asistir. Favor de inscribirse en la Rectoría .

MATRIMONIOS: Los preparativos deberán hacerse al menos con 4 meses de anticipación (antes de contratar el salón de recepción) a modo de tener tiempo suficiente para la preparación e instrucción. Favor llamar a la Rectoría para una cita.

CONVERCIONES: RCIA El Rito de Iniciacion Cristiana para Adultos comienza cada año en septiembre, llega a su cúspide con el Bautismo o recepción en la Iglesia en la Vigilia Pascual (Sábado Santo), y termina en la fiesta de Pentecostes.

LLAMADAS PARA COMUNIÓN: Favor llamar a la Rectoría si necesitan que se le lleve la comunión a algún enfermo.
