About the Ensemble
Rich Mehrenberg (Mr. Dussel)
This is Rich's first (but hopefully not last) role on the SSC
stage. Favorite past roles include Bottom (A Midsummer
Night's Dream), Sir (Side Show), and Martini (One Flew Over
the Cuckoo's Nest). He dedicates his performance to his
daughter, Mathilda, who assures him that she would still come
see the show even if it wasn't a mandatory school field trip.
Joanne Walcerz (Mrs. Van Daan)
Joanne can usually be found performing improv with River
Crossing Playback Theatre, or working in a quiet, dark space:
her massage room in York! She would like to thank her won-
derful clients for being flexible with their appointments so she
could create Petronella, and be part of this wonderful cast.
And, a shout-out (literally) to Cliff, her real life Mr. Van Daan.
A Message From the
Artistic Director
Greetings everyone and welcome to the Susquehanna Stage
Company’s PULITZER PRIZE SEASON 2017! This season also repre-
sents our 9th year of operation, in which we “celebrate, through
theatrical performances, the common humanity binding us all
together” (from our mission statement). Those words, written
years ago, still echo the goals our company strives to maintain
within our artistic community.
Nine seasons of hard work, long board meetings, Saturday
clean-up days, but also packed audiences, standing ovations,
Broadway World nominations and wins, truly excellent critically
acclaimed plays and musicals; and we’ve learned time and
again that family doesn’t always mean those connected by
blood.
Thank you to everyone who has ever set foot in SSC, either on-
stage, backstage, or in the audience. With our recent pur-
chase of the Historic Marietta Theatre, we have set our sights on
being around for a long, long, time.
Our inspiration for the 2017 season came from the phenomenal
success of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s HAMILTON, currently on Broad-
way for anyone lucky enough or rich enough to get tickets.
HAMILTON is the winner of 11 Tony awards and more important-
ly the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Since the distinguished yearly
award began in 1917, only 9 musicals have been awarded this
prestigious distinction! That, dear readers, was the birth of an
idea, albeit an ambitious and challenging idea. Why not cre-
ate and promote an entire season of Pulitzer Prize winning plays
and musicals? Why not??!!
My personal thanks to the Board of Directors at SSC, who pro-
vide leadership, stability and friendship. Without a good Board
steering the ship, we could have folded years ago. But we did-
n’t, and we aren’t and we love sharing our creative efforts with
our community. Today I feel #blessedandhighlyfavored.
