MUSIC TRIP TO AUSTRALIA

On Wednesday the 15th of April, 26 students left Auckland as acquaintances and returned a week later as friends with many memories to share.

Melbourne went by very quickly. Our first performance was at Aquinas College. Although all the acts could not perform, we enjoyed their hospitality – they have a student run café with delicious food. The next two days in the City were magic! It seemed like it was only yesterday we were out and about, roaming the streets and shopping at Topshop and Victoria's Secret and especially Victoria Market! There were so many choices of everything you could imagine. Some girls bought bracelets as a souvenir and something to remind them they made it to Australia together. We also visited the Melbourne Art Gallery and Screen Worlds which had history of how film and television came about. Of course we could never forget our La Porchetta dinner evenings as the food was incredible.

The biggest highlight of the trip was watching the Lion King musical. It was an absolutely amazing show to watch, full of clever costumes and set design, changing lights and of course stunning singing, dance and acting.

After being shopaholics and having an awesome time in Melbourne, we were on our way to Tasmania. We arrived in Launceston and went on a tour until we reached Burnie. On our way we went to many different activities, the most popular being the Anvers Chocolate Factory. Soon after, our hearts were all pounding nervously as we waited to meet with our host families, which welcomed us with warmth and hospitality we will never forget.

The other highlight of the trip was our last day in Burnie at Marist Regional College. We performed at their theatre and had special lights and sound effects provided by our hosts, which greatly contributed to our concerts. We had so much fun jamming in the music room, and teaching them Ka Waiata. The BBQ lunch was also very successful, and we got to know everyone so much better. With a big smile and a tear in our eyes we wrapped up our second concert with a joint version of “Royals” with MRC.

Melbourne was an absolute blast but Tasmania was even better. It was a completely different experience for all of us. We made so many new friends whom we will continue to be friends with, no matter how far apart we are.

Although it was only for a week, all of us had an amazing time in Australia. We would like to thank all parents and teachers for putting their efforts for this trip to be possible.

YEAR 9 RETREAT

Last week Year 9s went to retreat at Ferndale House. Our retreat was all about the 'Lord's Prayer'. We were split into three groups for three different stations. Each station focused on a specific part of the 'Lord's Prayer'. The first station was all about the problems in the world, the second was all about 'daily bread' and how some people don't always have food and others do. The third was about sins and forgiveness. When we sin or when others sin against us, do we really forgive them?

Our favourite part about retreat was the end when we did a Liturgy. We divided into three groups and had to reflect on the last station we attended. Many of us chose to do skits. It was nice to watch each group perform their skits and see how they linked it to their station. We did a skit about pollution, and how we have to keep the Earth clean. Retreat was really fun! It challenged us to see the true meaning behind a prayer we say everyday and made us more aware of how we should treat others and the world we live in.
