MSC Splendida cal ls at Marmaris
MSC Splendida visited Marmaris on the 4th and 15th of December. All the stops were pulled out for her maiden welcome; Mar-
maris Cruise Port created a complimentary mini Turkish bazaar right on the pier for the guests to wander through as they disem-
barked, including a traditional Turkish carpet weaving stall with local handicrafts on show, a baklava stall, traditional Turkish ice-
cream and honey doughnuts, a Turkish coffee stand, free souvenirs, brochures, city maps and posters of Marmaris as well as
entertainment in the form of a childrens’ folklore dance troupe, Turkish music and even a Whirling Dervish! The warm Mediterra-
nean winter sun shone down as guests enjoyed the many tastes and experiences on show. The master of Splendida was presented
with a plaque and a custom-made traditional Turkish
ceramic plate to commemorate the maiden call. On her
second visit, Marmaris Cruise Port presented a prize to
their 1 millionth ship passenger to call at the port since
they took over its management. The lucky winners of a
luxury one week holiday at an all-inclusive 5-star resort
hotel in Marmaris were Mr. & Mrs. James Oliver, of Lin-
coln, England.

Marmaris is excited to become the new homeport for the Thomson Celebration in 2010! Work is underway
to prepare the port for this major turnaround operation; interior design for a new check-in facility is in its
final stages and the port infrastructure has already been improved with road and pier resurfacing and new
pavements as well as extensive additional shade awnings around the check-in hall, in the coach park area
and on the piers. Expansion of the main passenger terminal is also scheduled this winter.
