Fostering a Culture of Vocations

Both men and women can

join religious orders. The life

and rules of religious orders

vary greatly; each order can

be defined by their charism

or primary function. Some

are devoted to a life of

solitary prayer, others work

in schools, hospitals, etc.

Religious brothers, sisters,

and priests make vows of

poverty, chastity, and

obedience.

Some people are called to

live out their call to holiness

as single persons through

various professions and

ministries not marrying and

not professing vows. By

serving God, their neighbor,

and the Church, single

people contribute greatly to

society and the Body of

Christ by being witnesses of

God’s self-sacrificial love.

Most people are called to

married life. Married persons

share their call to holiness in

this vocation by leading their

spouse and children to

Heaven. This is done

through complete gift of self,

laying down one’s life for

one’s family, handing on the

faith, and living by holy

example. This, like any

vocation, must be discerned.

MARRIED LIFE Priests live out their call to

holiness by administering the

sacraments, preaching, and

leading others to Christ.

Priests offer counsel and

spiritual direction to those

they serve in their parishes,

schools, and various other

ministries throughout the

Archdiocese. Priests promise

to live a life of prayer,

obedience and celibacy.

Married and Single people. Inspire us to grow in our
