NOVEMBER 20, 2016 OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE
The Feast of Christ the King was established by Pope Pius XI in
1925 as an antidote to secularism, a way of life which leaves God
out of man's thinking and living and organizes his life as if God did
not exist. The feast is intended to proclaim in a striking and
effective manner Christ's royalty over individuals, families, society,
governments, and nations.
Today's Mass establishes the titles for Christ's royalty over men: 1)
Christ is God, the Creator of the universe and hence wields a
supreme power over all things; "All things were created by Him";
2) Christ is our Redeemer, He purchased us by His precious Blood,
and made us His property and possession; 3) Christ is Head of the
Church, "holding in all things the primacy"; 4) God bestowed
upon Christ the nations of the world as His special possession and
dominion.

NOVEMBER 20, 2016 OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE
My dear Sisters and Brothers,
Grace and peace in our Lord Jesus!
We are celebrating this Sunday the SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE
UNIVERSE. This great solemnity reminds us that we have a King whose heart is merciful, forgiving
and full of love for us His subjects. It is the desire of our Lord that because of His passion, death, and
resurrection for our salvation from sin and death that someday, after our pilgrim journey, we may
live with Him forever in His Father's house where there are many dwelling places that He already
prepared as we read in St. John's gospel. He is our King who made us heirs of His kingdom as St.
Paul tells us. He is our King who emptied Himself for our sake, made Himself our Bread of Life. Let
us fill our hearts with thanksgiving as we celebrate this great feast.
We now celebrate Mass in Kahala Nui every Sunday. We started last Sunday. Five priests have
agreed to rotate to preside over the Mass for the residents and their employees. At the first Mass,
there were twenty- two residents who celebrated the Eucharist.
The Octoberfest we held recently was a big success. We will provide you the final accounting next
week of how much money we raised during the event. This event was a kick-off fund-raising
campaign to renovate/upgrade our Cafeteria. Our objective is to make it into a multi-purpose facility
that will be more comfortable, welcoming, user-friendly for our students and parishioners. We need
to replace the chairs and tables which have been there for more than 30 years(!), re-do the
stage, work on the doors, kitchen area etc. Our heartfelt gratitude for your initial generosity. But
may I appeal to your generous heart so we can complete this project as soon as possible.
Lance and Noel, our facility employees, are working to finish our sacristy. It is coming out
beautifullv. Actually, we do not have one! We are converting space adjacent to the sanctuary as our
Sacristy. The former sacristy, I was told, is the chapel we are using now. We have been using the
small room next to the men's CR as the vesting room for the bishop and clergy. I will let you know
when the blessing will be.
Our chapel is also undergoing an upgrade on its lighting system. I hope it will be done before the end
of this month.
We are in need of Lectors and Eucharistic ministers. I hope and pray some of you will respond to the
call to this important service to our parish. Training will begin in January next year.
May our Lord's blessings be upon you and your dear ones.
In our Bread of Life,
Fr. Frankie, SSS
Pastor

“Baby Shower for JESUS”
This Advent MSOS will be having a “Baby
Shower for JESUS!” In the Spirit of Giving, we
will be collecting new baby items as well as
monetary donations for needy mothers and their
infants.
We are looking for a team to help with this
caring Pro Life Ministry. We need assistance in
planning the baby shower, organizing and
delivering gifts, educating others about Pro Life
events and the annual March for Life, etc.
The “Baby Shower for Jesus,” to be held in
December, is being planned by the Mothers &
Babies Ministry and the MSOS Charismatic
Prayer Group.
If you are a Pro-Lifer, and can lend a hand in
some way, give us a call! Call Yvonne Izumi at:
396-3411.

Thanksgiving Day Mass
On Thanksgiving Day, before the football games
begin and the turkey meals are eaten...how about
joining us for a festive Mass of thanksgiving?
Let’s spend some time getting back to the
original intention of Presidents Washington and
Lincoln...to pause and give thanks to the
Almighy creator for the blessings we have each
received.
So join us, for this festive celebration of the Holy
Eucharist (Mass).

Senior Arts & Crafts Event
The Senior Arts & Crafts Ministry is holding its
annual Christmas fundraising on Saturday,
November 19th and Sunday, November 20th in the
lanai outside the Church after all the Masses.
Various items (all made by the Seniors) will be on
sale, including baked goods, plants, holiday
decorations, and many more.
Proceeds from the sale go towards assisting MSOS
in whatever they need. For example, in the past,
proceeds assisted in purchasing much needed altar
server vestments.
Come and support our Seniors in their fundraising
efforts! Everything on sale made with “loving
hands.”
For more information, or other questions, please
call the Parish Office at 734-0396.

SUNDAY SCRIPTURE READINGS:
FIRST READING: 2Samuel 5:1-3 -- This reading celebrates Christ’s
kingship by looking back at His ancestry and linking Him with David,
who was Israel’s greatest king, a man after God’s own heart.
SECOND READING: Colossians 1:12-20 -- The structure of this
passage (a liturgical hymn) sings of Christ as “firstborn” of both
creation and our salvation. He preceded all things and all things are held
together by Him. As firstborn of creation, He is lord of everything!
GOSPEL: Luke 23:35-43 -- In this Gospel text, we have a nearly mute
Jesus who is mocked by “rulers,” “soldiers,” and even a condemned
“criminal.” From His cruciform throne, He speaks no words to defend or
save Himself, only words promising salvation to one who is as much out-
cast as He is. So, even here Jesus does in fact demonstrate His kingship,
for His pain and seeming helplessness are no impediment to pronouncing
a sentence of life for the so-called “good thief” at His side.
