Financial Stewardship for July 4 & 5: Building Fund $ 12,541.97
Offertory $ 15,388.97
Financial Stewardship Today’s readings are about being chosen and sent. The prophet Amos was chosen by the Lord and sent to use his talents for the people of God. The Gospel recounts the story of sending out the twelve disciples; and in the second reading, St. Paul reminds us
that we, too, are chosen. For what have I been chosen? To whom have I been sent?

Stewardship: Parishioners Answering
God’s Call Eight teens in the POP High School Youth Group, along with adult chaperones, were busy several days this summer working with Habitat for Humanity on new construction and remodeling existing homes in the Birmingham area. They were involved in painting, putting up siding, pressure washing, etc. On days that they finished early, they came to the church and straightened/cleaned the pews in the Main Church and Day Chapel. Here they picked up trash, straightened books and generally helped to prepare for weekend Masses. Please submit your stewardship story examples to [email protected]. They may be edited for space consideration.
Minus One Group This is a group for anyone who is “minus one.” This can be anyone who has lost a spouse, child, parent, sibling - anyone who is minus a person they loved in their life. We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 11:00 am in Deasy Hall. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Charlotte Shipic at 205.425.0061.

Religious Education - A Fresh Approach to Formation “A Moment with God”
Offer the actions of your life to God as a prayer, whether you are washing the dishes, repairing a car, or watching your kids swim, and by your inner intention, you will transform ordinary daily activities into the noblest tasks. By doing so, you will elevate tedious tasks to spiritual exercises that draw you nearer to God. This is how modern men and women, in the midst of busy lives, can seek and find intimacy with God. During these summer months of trips, water parks, zoo visits, and pool time, we are off our normal routine and often lack the quiet moments of prayer and reflection. In the simplest of moments we can take a minute and have a conversation with God; remembering how grateful we should be for the times we can share with our children and friends. Happy Summer, take a few moments each day to share the simplest moments with God in a prayer of thanksgiving.
Looking for a stewardship activity in the Formation Ministry? We can always use a helping hand. Please contact Megan Everett at [email protected] or stop by the Religious Education office to find out about ways in which you can help. Upcoming Events: Summer Sunday School (K3-GR1) during 8:30 and 11:00 Masses: July 12, 19, 26. No registration required. Teachers still needed for all grades! All materials are provided. Please contact Megan if you can help in this Formation Ministry.

Casting Lots
for the Seamless Garment Nonviolence, The Response
to the Charleston Killings ...The Real challenge before us, I submit, was laid down long ago by our national teacher, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. He invites each one of us to undergo the journey he went through toward active nonviolence. We have to renounce the ancient stupidity of “an eye for an eye thinking” (which Jesus outlawed when he commanded in the Sermon on the Mount, “But I say, offer no violent resistance to one who does evil”) and take up where Gandhi left off in his pursuit of truth and nonviolence…. (excerpt from an essay by Rev. John Dear. The complete essay, dated 6.19.15, can be found at paceebene.org)
