For more information, contact Tom & Elsbeth Germanson at 205.565.3456.

Adult Bible Study St. Martin Room

We are all familiar with the famous stories of the Bible, but what do they all mean? Where do they fit in the larger picture of God’s plan of salvation for His people? Discover how all these pieces fit together into one cohesive narrative. Please invite a friend! For more information, please call Carl Matzke at 205.317.1605.

Religious Education - A Fresh Approach to Formation “Looking to Easter - Promise for a New Life”

The Vigil - A Call to New Life The Easter Vigil liturgy is nothing short of spectacular, and if you have never experienced it we urge you and your family to do so, especially once children are at least age seven or eight years old. The Easter fire at the beginning of the liturgy, along with the lit taper held by each member of the assembly, will give new meaning to a symbol as simple as a candle on your dinner table. The sprinkling of the entire assembly with holy water, in turn, will give you an opportunity to recall the baptism of your children - perhaps inspiring you to hang holy water fonts in your home or your children’s bedrooms.

Families attending the Easter Vigil usually witness the baptisms and/or receptions into the Church of Catholic converts. To witness the obvious joy these folks experience at this time can be a valuable reminder to all families of what a profound privilege it is to have the gift of faith. This can remind us all not to take our faith for granted and to be thankful for the dying and the rising of everyday life in a Catholic family.

God’s New Life What the Gospel teaches us - and what our experiences confirm - is that new life happens in the midst of our struggle to die to self. Perhaps one of the best reminders of this is the branches now popping with new life at this time of year. The buds bursting with tender leaves and fragile blossoms may have appeared in just the last few weeks, but those buds have been growing and forming all through the winter, ever since the leaves fell off in those very same places last fall.

Indeed, if the leaves hadn’t died and fallen, there would be no room for the new life that we now welcome and in which we delight. WE grownups shouldn’t miss opportunities to take advantage of this fact when “teachable moments” present themselves. Indeed, the same can be said about all of Holy Week and the Easter season. Those days are loaded with lessons about the gift of the new life we receive through the everyday intimacy we share with the risen Christ. (Creative Catechist)

Please keep the children, their families and teachers in your prayers as they continue their Faith Formation.

Casting Lots for the Seamless Garment Your Heart Today - by Fr. Manoling Francisco, SJ

Where there is fear I can allay, Where there is pain I can heal, Where there are wounds I can bind, And hunger I can fill: Lord, grant me courage, Lord, grant me strength, Grant me compassion that I may be your heart today.

Where there is hate I can confront, Where there are yokes I can release, Where there are captives I can free, And anger I can appease: Lord, grant me courage, Lord, grant me strength, Grant me compassion that I may be your heart today.

When comes the day I dread to see our broken world, Protect me from myself grown cold that your people I may behold. And when I’ve done all that I could, yet, there are hearts I cannot move, Lord, give me hope that I may be your heart today.

(“Igniting our Values,” Mar 24, 2015, Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States) For more information on the Seamless Garment Ministry, please contact Tom & Elsbeth Germanson at 205.565.3456.
