Reflecting on God's Word
The stone probably didn't feel that heavy when it was first picked up. But it was a Stone, not a pebble, and there were many of them. They would do damage, especially when hurled in self-righteous anger. Perhaps it helped the people to believe that no one stone could be blamed for her death. This was an act of the community, all of them in it together, standing up for the Law of Moses, and bringing down God's wrath upon an adulteress. While things were starting to heat up, no one was paying much attention to the woman. They were all watching Jesus. What was with the crouching down and drawing in the dirt? You really couldn't tell whether he was writing or drawing or maybe he was just stalling for time. Some said he had tricked them, worked some kind of magic, proof that he was indeed in league with Beel-zebub. The more thoughtful ones were silent. One even said he thought Jesus was praying. Where else could his words have come from, words that redirected their gaze from the woman to themselves, words that caused stones to drop and feet to shuffle off? His words continue to echo any time we find ourselves about to cast stones of condemnation at one another: "Let the one among you who is without sin..." After taking these words to heart, we might hear more clearly Jesus' final words, meant not only for her but for us: Go and sin no more.

Algunos decían que Jesús los había timado, que hizo algún tipo de magia y eso
probaba que en efecto estaba confabulado con Belzebú. Los más considerados guardaban silencio. Uno hasta dijo que Jesús estaba orando. ¿De dónde más podrían salir las palabras de Jesús? Unas palabras que fueron capaces de desviar la mirada de ellos, o sea, en vez de fijarse en la mujer comenzaron a fijarse en ellos mismos. Por eso, al oír aquellas palabras dejaron las piedras y se escabulleron. Las palabras de Jesús continúan haciendo eco cada vez que tratamos de tirarnos piedras de condenación los unos a los otros. "Aquel de ustedes que no tenga pecado..." Si tomamos en serio estas palabras podremos escuchar más claramente las últimas palabras de Jesús, que no sólo fueron dirigidas a ella, sino también a nosotros: puedes irte, pero no vuelvas a pecar

Pro-life ministry
This ministry is aimed to raise awareness to the Right to Life. We are a small group that meets to pray a Rosary every Tuesday at 6pm in front of the Plan Parenthood on A Street, Hayward, CA. Also every year we encourage parishioners to join us to the Walk for Life in January in San Francisco. If you feel called to be part of our group, contact Carmen Prado at 510-326-6434.

Father Jay Matthews passes March 30: Very Rev. James V. Matthews, beloved rector of the Cathe-dral of Christ the Light and longtime pastor of St. Benedict Church in Oakland, died suddenly of an apparent heart attack early on the evening of March 30. He was 70. "Father Matthews' infectious love for his faith, his parishioners and his community was a source of joy and inspiration for me," said Oakland Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ, in a statement. "He truly lived what St. John Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests, described the priesthood to be: 'the love of the heart of Jesus.' I shall really miss him." Funeral arrangements are pending.

Bible study
Saint John is proud to announce an in-depth bible study starting May 6th organized by Deacon Noe and supported by Fr. Joseph and Fr Sergio.
The Bible Timeline:
The Story of Salvation” by Jeff Cavins. This study goes beyond last years' study. It is a 24-session study on Monday at 7pm, that will be completed toward the end of October. The number of participants will be limited to 50 mainly due to capacity of the classroom. We will break up into small groups with facilitators to get into in-depth discussions. The cost is roughly $34.95 plus tax per work book. Please call the office for further details.

Our Ticket To The Kingdom
St Vincent de Paul is asking for your monetary response to "Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me - you did it to me said Jesus". Corporal Works of Mercy are tangible ways in which God's love is made present to those "overlooked or ignored". It is by these works of mercy that we live out the Gospel Message and we bring good news by transforming someone's life for the better. We do it not as a "social service" or to feel good, but because in doing it we allow Christ himself to embrace our brothers and sisters in need through our St. Vincent de Paul Fifth Sunday second collection.

Lo hacemos no como un "servicio social" o para sentirnos bien, sino porque al hacerlo permitimos que el mismo Cristo abrace a nuestros hermanos y hermanas necesitadas a través de nuestra segunda colecta del Segundo Domingo de San Vicente de Paul.
