Sunday Childcare & Preschool

Saint Martin de Porres Catholic Church strives to support and encourage families to deepen their relationship with God at every age. We work to create a loving Church culture which feeds both the children and their parents. The programs offered below give children a chance to establish community, learn about God and love Church from a young age. In turn we hope to give parents and couples the freedom to attend Mass independently, to be nourished by the word of God, and then filled with the Spirit to go home and serve. Volunteers are needed for all programs below. Contact Colleen Picou, Early Childhood Coordinator: [email protected] St. John's Childcare registration is now open! We serve children 9 months through 2 years of age. We are closed the month of September to prepare for the new school year. Sunday School Registration is open for children 3 to 6 years of age. Junior high, high school, and adult volunteers are highly needed. Please contact Colleen Picou for more information. Children's Liturgy of the Word serves children in 1st through 4th grade. We are closed the month of September and will resume October 1st. Registration Closes Thursday, September 27th!

Teaching our children about God has heavenly rewards. Prayerfully discern volunteering to co-teach this year. Are you being called to lead our children closer to God?

Gospel: Matthew 18:21-35 Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? God’s forgiveness is without limit. How does God’s mercy for us compare with our mercy for our brother? Do we pardon those who injure us? Our debt before God is countless and unpayable! Christ paid the price for us in His eternal sacrifice. Let us pray that we may imitate our Lord to follow His example of love and mercy.

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration

“One thing have I asked of the Lord, this I seek: To dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life that I may gaze on the loveliness of the Lord…” Psalm 27:4

Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament is a personal conversation with a living person—the risen Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. It’s as close as we can come in this life to talking face to face with God. To spend your special hour with Him, call 657-888-4631 or write to [email protected]

Faith Formation August Altar Server of the Month

Please join the Altar Server Ministry in recognizing Ethan Chow as our Altar Server of the Month for August 2017. Ethan comes to the ministry following in the well-worn path

of several Chow family members who previously served the Altar Server ministry. Ethan has distinguished himself through his quiet demeanor, but confident command of the duties and responsibilities of the position. With his 2 years of service, Ethan is a familiar face to our 12:15 parishioners. Recently invited to join the Senior Server track of the ministry, Ethan’s abilities have been recognized by our clergy, who appreciate his dependability. Congratulations on your award, Ethan, and thank you for your service to St. Martin’s!

Youth Ministry Events My name is Kristi Biederman and I am the new Youth Director. For the past ten years, I have been at St. Angela Merici in Brea. I was the Confirmation Coordinator, Young Adult Minister, RCIYA and RCIT Coordinator, AFF Coordinator for both English Confirmation and First Communion, Youth and Young Adult Leadership Coordinator, Ignite Ministry Coordinator, and volunteered in Youth Ministry. I wore many hats but loved working with the youth of our parish. I hope that my many roles will help me to build a strong community of young leaders here at St. Martin de Porres. I look forward to meeting many of you soon as most of the programs will start shortly. Please look in the bulletin for all dates for activities hosted by Youth Ministry. I will be adding new activities on a regular basis.

If you are in high school and have been confirmed please join me for a High School Leadership meet and greet on October 1, 2017 at 4:00 pm in Mary and Joseph.

St. Martin’s Travel Club

Home Visit Ministry “Home Visitation, connecting the dots and doing God’s work.”, a Home Visitor testimonial: Have you ever felt discouraged doing God’s work and then—boom—a Blessing turns it all around? That happened to Julie and I today doing Home Visitation. We had been discouraged lately calling on parishioners who were not home. Today we visited 12 homes and not only were 9 there, but all welcomed us with open arms. At one, we found that a parishioner had moved. We then asked the new owner whether they had been to mass at St. Martins. He said, “occasionally on Christmas and Easter.” After inviting him to mass weekly, he gave us his full contact information and requested that someone call them for their children’s first communion instruction. A blessing beyond measure! Get involved; Contact Susan at [email protected] or Eldon at [email protected].

Finding God in the Wilderness Week 3

The sin of greed so strongly infects the human heart that each of us has amassed a huge ecological debt. We eat more food then we need, waste more water than we require, admit more pollution than the earth can bare. Yet, even as we destroy God’s creation God is willing to forgive us. God is always willing to forgive us. -from Catholic Climate Covenant
