Week 33 2019
At the Strategic Update we discussed our new manifesto that sits behind and supports our new brand, as a reminder you can find it below:
Powerleague is so much more than the beautiful game. It’s the chance to dream. To emulate the greats. It’s open to everyone.
It’s democratic with broad popular appeal. It’s football for all.
Whether it’s Lanky Les in the post room. The girls from sales.
The guys and girls on the trading floor. Forget about all the other stresses and strains in life.
Daily irritants. Work. Bosses. Relationships.... Or even the way professional football has lost touch with its fan base.
It really doesn’t matter when you’re out there on the pitch playing your heart out. Dreaming you too can volley like Messi or scorpion kick like Giroud. There’s only one thing you want to do when you take to the pitch.
Play.
And there’s only one way you can go in life. That’s on.
Powerleague
Play On.
Our Manifesto
Strategic Update 2019 Special
Last Thursday we held our mid-year Strategic Update for all Club Managers, and senior managers from League Ops and the support offices at Villa Park in Birmingham. The session was an opportunity for the SLT to update everyone on how we are progressing against the strategic plans that were set out at the conference in February. We also took time to hold a Q&A session, covering all of the questions that had been submitted in advance as well as more from the room. Inside this issue you’ll find a summary of some of the key messages from the day. A copy of the main slides from the session has been loaded onto YourNet for you to take your teams through, this includes the marketing campaigns and digital masterclass content from the afternoon and can be found on YourNet here: https://yournet.powerleague.co.uk/articles/article.php?sectionID=20&articleID=2590 The Q&A is being transcribed now and will be available shortly, watch out for confirmation of when this is available in a future issue of Matchday. Thank you to everyone who attended the session as well as those who submitted questions in advance and a big thank you to everyone who was recognised for their contributions also.
Energetic—Motivated—Passion to Serve—Ownership—Will to Win—Empowered—Relentless
Email Signatures As part of our rebranding activity, we have activated a standard signature across the business. As such, any club generated signatures are no longer to be used. Please ensure that any signature templates in Outlook are deleted with immediate effect. Note, the standard signature is applied automatically by our email server once the message is sent, as a result you will not be able to see this when drafting your email.

Budweiser POS Budweiser will shortly be sending out promotional materials to all clubs with a bar and that are able to promote beer. Budweiser are the new official beer of the English Premier League so the POS will be themed around this. The kits include table talkers to be displayed on bar tables, posters to be displayed in or near your bar, fixture lists, coasters and scratch cards to be given to any customers buying Budweiser. With the new season now underway, please ensure these are utilised as soon as they are delivered to your club.
Uniform Stock Further to the updates in the last few issues of Matchday, we have now received the bulk of the uniform order due into Lyreco. There are still some items outstanding, primarily the tracksuit trousers and we are awaiting confirmation of when these will be back in stock and available to order, but we anticipate this to be in the next few days. As those of you who attended last week’s Strategic Update will have seen, the new tops feature our new logo on them. Please note we have not ordered enough stock for all colleagues to replace their existing uniforms with these. Any uniforms with the old green shield logo may continue to be used, with the exception of any Lucozade Powerleague items. Uniforms with both brands printed on them should be disposed of and replaced. If you cannot find the items you require on Lyreco, please email [email protected] with the details of what you need.
Banking Processes We have released the following new processes this week for club teams to review and ensure all relevant colleagues are trained on:
End of Day Banking (includes reconciling tills, banking takings, processing vending income and CentreNet End of Day)
Loomis Collections
Loomis Bag Guide (reference guide to support the above) A new Drop Log template has also been released. Please ensure these are reviewed and put into practice as soon as possible in your clubs. All of the documents can be found on the Processes page on YourNet under the ‘Financial Compliance’ heading here: https://yournet.powerleague.co.uk/articles/article.php?sectionID=21&articleID=2664
Congratulations to our top performers to budget for the week:
Region 18 (North West) in Powerplay (+20.5%)
Vauxhall in Powerleague (+29.1%)
New Look Matchday You’ve hopefully noticed by now that we’ve given the design of Matchday a refresh, timed with the launch of our new branding. The new look is designed to look a lot cleaner and make the content stand out more. We’ve also revamped the Air Traffic Control page to make it easier to see what is going on. Feedback and suggestions on how to further improve is always welcome, please drop us an email at [email protected]!
Meet the CPO—TONY SCOTT TEAM TALK TOP TIPS
As you’ve seen from the cover of this issue, the Strategic Update was a chance for the SLT to update everyone on our progress since the conference in February. The slides are available on YourNet, but below is are some of the headlines and key messages from the session…
Corporate Update The business has gone from nearly going bust this time last year to thriving now—thanks to everyone who has supported this turnaround but still more for us to do
We have launched our new vision, our new mission and developed our new values as a group
The strategic pillars set out in February remain unchanged
Great progress made in some areas such as pitch regeneration but work to do on others such as merchandising and opening new clubs
We must not rest on our laurels—selling 1 more pitch per day in every club would drive an additional £732,000 of income into the business!
Finance We have had a better than forecast performance in the first half of the year, H2 is tougher but still expecting to come in over
budget for the year
The launch of the internal audit has been successful in driving compliance and coaching colleagues, we are seeing some consistent challenges and are expanding the scope of the audit in the next few weeks
We continue to work on improving our financial reporting to give the business a better insight of our performance—example of weekly dashboard
Operations Pitch regeneration works going well—74% complete with the last of the LED lights fitted last week
Good progress made in clubs—ProNett landed, EPOS due in October, Deputy labour management in pilot, Perfect Day on September 1st
League Ops initiatives also progressing well—new offices in place, uniforms provided to referees, processes being developed, renewed netball focus
Need to continue with our relentless approach and keep up the momentum
Marketing New brand developed—see manifesto below which has been created to support
New assets in development now, to be rolled out over the next few weeks—work also underway to rebrand clubs over the coming months
Marketing calendar filling out with planned activities including relaunch of Loyalty Scheme as Player Reward Programme and Kids Parties
People We have launched our retail discounts platform (Extra Time), completed salary reviews, introduced an Employee Assistance Programme, season ticket loan scheme and study support
We have simplified our club roles, introduced a number of recruitment tools and brought in a dedicated Talent Partner
We have completed a number of training workshops, updated our performance review process and launched PowerUp, our apprenticeship scheme
We have more to do though—recognition scheme to be developed, club induction to be reviewed and more workshops to run
Property Team’s focus is on finding new sites in the UK, Ireland and Netherlands with a long list being reviewed—we welcome
suggestions and any colleague who suggests a site that goes forward will be awarded up to £5,000!
Also looking at how we maximise the return on existing estate through sublet opportunities
Remember, given the level of investment that you must look after the facilities—always sweep your pitches weekly Digital Transformation Our goal is “The integration of digital technology into all areas of the business resulting in fundamental changes to how a business operates and delivers value to customers”
4 key enablers to deliver this: EPOS, Content Management System (CMS), Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) and new booking platform underpinned by our unique player platform
The digital transformation is as much about our people as it is our technology
Feedback We hope you all had a fantastic time last week! It is important that we hear back from you that attended this years Strategic Update, letting us know what works well, what could improve and things you would possibly like to be included at the next update. The link to the survey is https://forms.gle/Hao3rhUoYcok6edV7, this is an anonymous survey.
