The addition of the new units in highly trafficked student buildings will help familiarize students with proper incentives to divert their wastes. Goals 1. Provide students with more opportunities to recycle and compost on campus. 2. Encourage waste diversion by providing the proper standardized bin infrastructure with clear signage on the centralized public collection bins. 3. Increase student awareness of the four different waste streams and proper recycling and composting practices. 4. Increase the amount of overall campus waste diverted from the landfill, to help achieve the University’s Zero Waste by 2020 goal. Accomplishments As of June 1, 2015 all 10 Max-R bins have been delivered and are preparing for installation. Locations chosen to include: Dwinelle Hall, Pimentel, Cesar Chavez Student Center, Golden Bear Cafe, Lower Sproul Plaza, and Evans Hall As of July 1, 2015, both Cesar Chavez and Golden Bear Cafe have received their Max-R bins and so far have proven to be successful at waste diversion. Max-R bins being refurbished with new banners and lids to standardize signage and encourage waste diversion throughout campus. Photos
