Welcome to Spring!May is here. No more rain I hope. In my old home country, we were celebrating Walpurgis* night onApril 30th with a large bon fire to scare off the winter. In CCBR we do it by going to the Spring Fling.

All you have to do is register and show up! CCBR Spring Fling Director Kim Dromlewicz has takencare of the rest. The food is as usual catered, delicious and plentiful. The river will be amazing thisyear after all the snow and rain we had this winter.

For March we had a really nice ride to CarmelValley with the goal of touring the TalbotMuseum, but many of us missed the Museumpart due to time constraints. 15 BMWmotorcycles took advantage of this ride. We willreschedule the museum tour.

I missed the April Membership meeting at theOutback Steak House due to a major issue atwork. Luckily this was the last major job thatfalls the day before the club lunch. I will movethose to weekends where I have no clubmeeting.

The Songdog Ranch ride and camp out wasunfortunately canceled. We replaced that with a ride to the Sacramento Car museum to look at theirMicro car display. We had two pickup points so our northern members didn't have to ride down toLivermore.

In May there is an event planned to the Sacramento Mile to watch the very exciting sport of flat trackracing. You can check that out here on the CCBR website.

There will be no last Sunday club ride in May. We have the Spring Fling and many of us go to the49er rally. The May General Membership Meeting will be at Priest Station Café in Big Oak Flat. Thisis a gorgeous location with a fun ride from any direction. You can even tour the Yosemite Valley Flooron your way!

*Walpurgis Night, an abbreviation of Saint Walpurgis Night (from the German Sankt Walpurgisnacht [saŋktvalˈpʊʁɡɪsˌnaχt]), also known as Saint Walpurga's Eve (alternatively spelled Saint Walburga's Eve), is the eve of theChristian feast day of Saint Walpurga, an 8th-century abbess in Francia, and is celebrated on the night of 30 April and theday of 1 May.[3][4] This feast commemorates the canonization of Saint Walpurga and the movement of her relics toEichstätt, both of which occurred on 1 May 870. STINKIN’ BADGESby

Dane Brown

Seems somewhere back in the eons of time of myyouth, I remember an actor, Alfonso Bedoya, playing the role of Gold Hat, in the movie"Treasure of the Sierra Madre", having an opinionabout stinkin’ badges.* When I joined CCBR Ireceived a very nice badge identifying me, whereI am from and the club I belong to. To one of myvintage, this is very helpful and very reassuring. At times, I have trouble remembering my name, especially when first arising in the morning. Oneof the tools I have used in the past to try to findout who I am is my driver’s license, but a fewtimes after I looked at it I thought I was DMVCalifornia for a couple of hours. When I go toCCBR meetings, I take my hat I have my badgeon, so after I take my helmet off and put on myhat, there is my security blanket, telling me who Iam, where I am from and what meeting I amgoing to. One of the meetings, I looked in themirror and I thought I was ENAD NWORB for awhile until Bob Wilson told me different.

Evidently most of the members of CCBR do not have my difficulty of remembering who theyare, for it seems as if very few have their badges on. For a new kid on the street, it getsconfusing sometimes, for by the time I start to talk with someone, I have forgotten who I am,and I start a conversation, and when I need to say your name, I start wondering if you areme. If you had your badge on, I could tell who you are and that you are not me. Would youdo an old man a favor and wear your badge at meetings and activities? It would helpconversations and provide comfort to a forgetful ‘mature’ individual, me! Please show meyour stinkin’ badges!

*Many thanks to CCBR member Rick Nagle for telling me the correct actorwho did the stinkin’ badges bit. I had thought the actor was J. Carrol Naish(note correct spelling). He was not in the movie. So, now do you seefurther why I need help! Thanks, Rick.

Dane Brown passed away on January 26, 2002. He offered great smiles for 70 years to thosewho were fortunate to know him. Dane had a lot of fun with motorcycles, but even more funwith his friends in motorcycling. Dane served the CCBR membership as Treasurer in ’95, ‘96,and ’98. His best-known contribution, though, reflected his wonderful humor in this letter, whichis now sent to all new members encouraging them to wear their “stinkin” name badges.

Musings by Rich Alves (and stolen from the internet)

The reasons for the slump in sales at Harley Davidson are not the fault of the current administration.

Apparently the Baby-Boomers all have motorcycles. Generation X is only buying a few, and the nextgeneration isn't buying any at all.

A recent study was done to find out why Millennials don't ridemotorcycles:

1. Pants won't pull up far enough for them to straddle the seat.

2. Can't get their phone to their ear with a helmet on.

3. Can't use 2 hands to eat while driving.

4. They don't get a trophy and a recognition plaque just for buying one.

5. Don't have enough muscle to hold the bike up when stopped.

6. Might have a bug hit them in the face and then they would need emergency care.

7. Motorcycles don't have air conditioning.

8. They can't afford one because they spent 12 years in college trying to get a degree in Humanities, Social Studies or Gender Studies for which no jobs are available.

9. They are allergic to fresh air.

10. Their pajamas get caught on the exhaust pipes.

11. They might get their hands dirty checking the oil.

12. The handle bars have buttons and levers and cannot be controlled by touch-screen.

13. You have to shift manually and use something called a clutch.

14. It's too hard to take selfies while riding.

15. They don't come with training wheels like their bicycles did.

16. Motorcycles don't have power steering or power brakes.

17. Their nose ring interferes with the face shield.

18. They would have to use leg muscle to back up.

19. When they stop, a light breeze might blow exhaust in their face.

20. It could rain on them and expose them to non-soft water.

21. It might scare their therapy dog, and then the dog would need therapy.

22. Can't get the motorcycle down the basement stairs of their parent's home.
