VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

For MAY 2020 Our April Volunteer is Richard (Dickie) Mills. Since the club has been closed for the month of April he is going to be the May Volunteer. He has helped with both the Aerie’s and Auxiliary food functions when asked. He helped set up the social room for State Visitation, burger night, taco Tuesdays and Thursday Charity dinners. He is on the Golf Tournament charity. Thank you, Dickie for everything you do and your volunteer spirit for the Fraternal Order of Eagles 3871.

Side note on Volunteer of the Month: Please respect the person selected as Volunteer of the Month and leave their parking space OPEN. They are chosen for all they do for this club and just because it may be empty when you come in, they may be right behind you continuing their hard work for the club. Please respect them by keeping it open for them. They earned it! Vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Brothers & Sisters,

The last few weeks have been unlike any we have seen before due to the coronavirus crisis and as we continue to abide by the orders of our respective States and Provinces, we know that many of you have important questions about operations moving forward.

One of the primary concerns is in regard to local Aerie and Auxiliary Elections. Per the Grand Aerie Constitution & Statutes, Nominations are to be held annually at the last meeting in April. Obviously, this will not be possible for the majority of our Aeries and Auxiliaries this year.

Those that are still able to meet must proceed as outlined in the Constitution & Statutes. Those that cannot meet, by order of the Grand Worthy President, should proceed in the following manner:

• First meeting after re-opening: Nomination of Officers

• Second meeting after re-opening: Election of Officers

• At least 5 days after Elections: Installation of Officers

In the event a local Aerie or Auxiliary would like to expedite this process, they may do so only by following the Constitutional requirements regarding holding a Special Meeting, found in Section 72.2.

The format and voting time for your elections must follow what is outlined in your local Aerie or Auxiliary by-laws. All current officers will remain in their respective offices until your successor is duly elected and installed.

We’ve also received many questions and concerns regarding upcoming dues. The Grand Aerie has made the decision to cover the cost of the first dues reminder that is being sent out to all members who still have yet to renew. Local Aeries and Auxiliaries will NOT be charged anything for the first reminders.

At this point, the Grand Aerie remains committed to the May 31 dues deadline, with a 30 day grace period extending until June 30, and we will continue to monitor the situation in the coming weeks as things progress.

Lastly, we’ve heard from many people about the various small business loans being offered on the state and federal level in the wake of this crisis. We want to remind everyone to follow the word of the Constitution and Statutes regarding obtaining any financial assistance as an Aerie or Auxiliary, which means you would need the approval of your membership.

We know nothing about this delicate time is easy. Several of our fellow brothers and sisters have fought and continue to fight the coronavirus. Many more continue to serve on the frontlines as doctors, nurses, first responders, etc., to protect and heal those fighting the virus.

To all, we hope you and your families remain safe throughout this time and we can’t wait to see you all on the other side of this, stronger than we’ve ever been.

Fraternally,

The Fraternal Order of Eagles Board of Grand Trustees

Carl Burnett, Chairman

Ron Malz, Grand Worthy President

AERIE TRUSTEE’S SUGGESTION BOX

The Trustees don’t mind helping when it comes to getting suggestions in the Suggestion Box, located in the rear hallway, next to the Trustee’s Office. OH, please sign your complaint, situation, incident or suggestion if you wish to hear a response to it. We have received several suggestions and good ones too and we can’t respond to them because they were not signed. Thank You.

Touch of Humor

When I was a teenager and a pretty girl looked at me, I thought I was hot stuff.

When I was middle-aged and a pretty girl looked at me, I thought, “Not bad for a guy my age.”

Now when a pretty girl looks at me, I think I better make sure my fly is zipped.

A Touch of Life Jack was obsessed with fishing and spent most of his retirement doing just that, but he promised his wife that he wouldn’t fish during their weeklong trip. A few days in, though, he couldn’t take it anymore. On Sunday morning, he told his wife he was sick, waited until she left for church, and then headed out to a nearby lake to rent a boat and some gear. Right away, he caught a fish that was bigger than any he’d ever seen. Once they were back at home, Jack went to confession and told the priest all that had happened. “Father,” he said, “there’s one thing I don’t understand. Why would God reward me with a big fish when he should have punished me for lying and skipping church?” “He did punish you!” laughed the priest. “Who are you going to tell about it?”

Frank Ferris – www.foe3871.com Hello all and welcome to May! Where does the time go actually? At this rate next week it’ll be Christmas already but here we are. I know it’s been awhile since I have wanted to put something, anything into the news but I have to ask, once again, why doesn’t anyone utilize our Web Site? Statistically, these pages are viewed by between 250 and 400 people monthly on a regular basis! Want to know what has been updated and added weekly? My consistent updates of the King of Hearts Game. How is that, in almost 10 years since these web pages themselves were uploaded that no one is taking advantage of this FREE advertising to inform others of our upcoming events we have on a monthly schedule? Isn’t this why we have planning meetings for charities and events? Contributing is quite easy as well. Send to me your fliers, event details and any information you’d like to have added to me either by emails to [email protected] or you could leave your information for me right here at the club and I’ll pick it up. Once received, your information will be posted on our “Events” pages with links directly on the “Home” page for inquiring minds and the world to see!

When writing to me or leaving packages please include your contact information, (Name, Telephone Number and Email Address) so that if I have any questions, we can complete the process together. For right now I am limiting this type of “advertising” to us here at 3871 only. This may change over time where a nominal fee may be charged to other groups for inclusion on our pages and all monies received will be contributed to whatever our “Charity of the Month” will be at the time. Again, this in the early stages and more information will become available on how to advertise with us as I develop these types of pages including a “Buy Advertising Now” and the “Donate to Charity Now” buttons. As always, I’m looking to help you in any way that I possibly can. This here is a great start when YOU alert people and OUR members of exactly what’s coming up and what’s going on here at F.O.E. #3871. Looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great month! Frank Ferris Jimmy Durante Children’s Fund April was Jimmy Durante Children’s Fund month. Jimmy Durante has two types of fundraising, one for Abused Children and the other Physical and Mentally Challenged Children. Don McGee had many events planned but, unfortunately the Coronavirus got in the way. He plans to hold the even next year.

With a Sad Note: Our dear friend and Auxiliary member Beryl Topkin passed away on Easter Sunday. She will be missed dearly. She is now in the hands of God. Also, our Friend and Brother Elwood passed on March 24th his beautiful voice and humor will be missed.
