Mothers Day is a celebration honoring mothers
and motherhood maternal bonds and the influence of
mothers in society It is celebrated on various days in
many parts of the world most commonly in March April
or May It complements Fathers Day a similar celebration
honoring fathers
Mothers Day is an American invention It is not directly descended from the many celebrations of mothers and motherhood that have occurred throughout the world over thousands of years such as the Greek cult to Cybele the Roman festival of Hilaria or the Christian Mothering Sunday celebration[1][2][3][4] Despite this in some countries Mothers Day has become synonymous with these older

The modern holiday of Mothers Day was first celebrat-
ed in 1908 when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her moth-
er in America She then began a campaign to make Mothers
Day a recognized holiday in the United States Although she
was successful in 1914 she was already disappointed with its
commercialization by the 1920s Jarvis holiday was adopted
by other countries and it is now celebrated all over the
world In this tradition each person offers a gift card or re-
membrance toward their mothers grandmothers and or
maternal figure on mothers day
Various observances honouring mothers existed in America during the 1870s and the 1880s but these never had reso-nance beyond the local level[6] Jarvis never mentioned Julia Ward Howes attempts in the 1870s to establish a Mothers Day for Peace nor any connection to the Protestant school celebrations that included Childrens Day amongst others Neither did she mention the traditional festival of Mothering Sunday but always said that the crea-tion was hers alone[7] For more in-formation on previous attempts see the United States section in this ar-

Despite its mane and 1300ndash year history the fabled Arabica coffee bean originated not in Arabia but in Ethiopia Legend attributes its discovery to Khaldi the goat herder who noticed his flock very fond of nibbling berries from a particular bush~berries that made the goats especially lively Khaldi decided to sample one and experienced such alertness and clearheadedness that he rushed the ldquomiraculousrdquo fruit to a monestary The head monk fearful of the berries tossed them into the fire but the aroma of the roastin ldquobeansrdquo was so intoxication that he promptly had a change of heart The beans were re-trieved pounded and mixed with hot water to make a drink that would keep the monks awake during long periods of prayer Over the centuries Khaldirsquos coffee bean travelled to Arabia where a thriving cof-fee culture was established and the beans became
