Where is Marina Bay?

Marina bay is located around the south east of Singapore at a ‘Y’ shaped river area

First Stop… Clifford PierBuilt in 1933, Clifford Pier was a landing point for immigrants and other sea passengers. A red oil lamp used to hang from the pier as a guide to seafarers, earning the pier the name Red Lamp Pier

Now, it has been renovated into Fullerton Bay hotel, after the pier is

Decommisioned because of the construction of marina barrage.

This shows that Singapore is Progressing Quickly in this fast paced

World. This also shows that the government planned ahead for this and

Prepared to change this landmark into a tourist attraction, clearly showing

One of the four principles of government ‘ Anticipate change and stay relevant’

Did Marina bay always looked like this?

No. It didn’t. Marina Bay Prior to independence did not exist. Then, when you looked out of

the window of the Fullerton hotel building, It is already the open sea instead of the familiar

Marina Bay Sands!

This shows that the Singapore Government is capable of making major changes to keep up with the fast –paced, competitive world!

Stop 2 – Environmentally friendly installations!

Page 7: MBLJ-David-25-3S4

Ever seen these weird looking installations along Marina Bay promenade walk? These ‘Breeze Shelters’ are eco-Friendly Installations that let hot and tired pedestrians have a little Shade and some breeze under it. These shelters

store energy from the solar cells on the top when no one is underneath. When motion sensors are activated as someone walks below these shelters, the fans kick into action, using the energy that is stored from absorbed the sunlight.

Page 8: MBLJ-David-25-3S4

These Breeze shelters are not only energy saving, theseShelters are also a sign that the Government is striving

towards an eco-friendly society. Showing the principle of ‘ Leadership is key’ . Although integrating into an eco- friendly environment is costly and frequently negatively spoken against. The government still, did what is right- by saving the country’s precious natural resources.

Question to Ponder…What is that empty field doing there? This field is intended to be left empty by the

URA.In a recent opening ceremony of a marina bay

facility,Prime minister Lee Hsien Loong said that he

wanted a city area not just a business hub, he wants a city that also ‘alive’ after working hours! Therefore, this field is intended to be used as a recreational activity area.

Stop 3 – Marina Bay City GalleryThe Marina Bay City Gallery is the only gallery in Singapore that tells the story of Singapore's planning efforts showing its remarkable physical Transformation ! This again, lets everyone in

Singapore to know that the Government is striving to make Singapore to remain as a high potential investment country. ‘Anticipating change and staying relevant’.

About : Marina Bay Sands Marina Bay sands is no doubt, a dominant icon of Marina Bay. It is also considered an engineering marvel. But behind the scenes

the Government actually made the IR of Singapore gain lots of revenue for the

country, benefitting the citizens!

Page 13: MBLJ-David-25-3S4

Marina Bay SandsThe Marina bay sands also created lots of

jobs for Singaporeans this will lead to a lower unemployment rate in Singapore. The Government showed the principle of : ‘A Stake For Everyone, Opportunities For All’. This is shown that the Government helped citizens to gain a job, making everyone feel a sense of belonging and ownership.’
