FROM THE CEO September 2015 marks one-year since the creation of the

Maryland Building Industry Association when it was formed from the merge

between the Maryland National-Capital Building Industry Association and the Home Builders

Association of Maryland. As we approached this milestone anniversary, we took a step back

to evaluate our work. We reached out to our membership in June and asked them what they liked about the merge and

what they think we can do better. In this Merge Report, we want to share those results with you. We are continuously

evolving to serve our members and better our industry and we look forward to accomplishing those goals with you.

Lori Graf, CEO

71.6% of our respondents have registered for an

event on marylandbuilders.org and of those, 95.6%

felt it was easy to use.

EVENT SURVEY RESULTS MEMBER

COMMENTS

I understand the impact the merger had on all facets of the association and feel that things are steadily improving and therefore I look forward to what the future holds. Hold events closer to Baltimore City - not so much in the city, but closer than Fulton. Too many are held in the Baltimore area. As a result I attend few events. Seems to be an awful lot of events, maybe too many. Definitely an oppor-tunity to see which ones are working, which ones aren't, and cut back on those that aren't. More roundtable, collaborative discus-sion type events. Staff is exceptional. Plan on expanding participation.

The majority of members attend events not only to network

but also to see colleagues and support the association.

MEMBER

COMMENTS

While it will take time to complete integra-tion of systems, a wider, statewide view (vs. previous regional views) needs to be taken as regards priorities, programs, networking functions, etc. Not yet sure. Waiting to tally the votes! Looking good though. Plenty of pluses, and a few minuses for me. I think that the merger was good from a "management" perspective, but I think events catered to each group is needed. Different markets. Too much focus on home builders and not enough on remodelers. I understand the benefit for larger and regional builders, but for our firm it has been a net negative. I am very satisfied with the new organiza-tion, and the efforts underway to become one voice. I would like to see the former MNCBIA members become more involved with Builder Mart and other HBAM events. I love and respect this organization. I have been a member since around 1980 or thereabouts. Too long ago to remember. I want what is best for our membership, pure and simple. If being merged helps us survive, them I'm in favor. Conflicting objectives and territories make this merger unsuccessful in my eyes. I really have not used a lot of the services. Any dealings that I have had with the organization have been positive. Builder members MUST START attending MBIA events. Associate members pay money and take the time to attend with the hopes of meeting and socializing with potential customers. Year-after-year "same" events get tiring. Lori and her staff have done an incredible job!

COMMENTS

WEBSITE Clean. Good content. Still hard for me to look up members, as it seems hard to see where and when I need to login. Fresher, up to date Easy access to information, user friendly Too many tabs Usually easy to find upcoming event de-tails. Hard to slog through to get what you want. Easy to navigate Visual appeal Sometimes hard to navigate COMMUNICATION The communication should be an easy link to get me to the website where I see what I want to see rather than pushing everything out to me. It would be great if there were a way to decline communication for a singular event or come off the event mailing list once you register. I appreciate the con-sistent marketing up until I make my decision.

COUNCILSCOUNCILSCOUNCILS

MBIA’s councils target specific disciplines within the home

building industry and give individual members with common

interests the opportunity to exchange ideas and further their

education; councils offer something for everyone.

There are many timely issues that directly impact the home building industry, These issues aren't just impacting build-ers and developers, they affect those working in related fields, from realtors to concrete pourers, and from window installers to plumbing supply companies. Ultimately, these issues affect our entire regional economy.
