WHY MENTOR?

Page 42: Men of honor conference presentation

what IS mentoring?

• Mentoring brings young people together with caring individuals who offer guidance, support and encouragement aimed at developing the competence and character of the mentee.

• A mentor is a person who provides a young person with support, counsel, and friendship.

Page 43: Men of honor conference presentation

Why are mentors needed at San

Jacinto College?

• For every 100 African American males who start school here, only 8 of them finish.

• Our main goal is to fix that statistic.

WHAT WILL I DO AS

A MENTOR?

Page 47: Men of honor conference presentation

What will I do as a Mentor?

• Mentors will serve as resources, assisting students with academic and personal development, while offering support and motivation. In a sense, the mentor serves as a “fan” for his or her mentee, cheering that student on towards the goal of graduation from San Jac.
